These 5 tweaks are some of my favourite that can be found in Cydia, They make life so much easier, either by keeping me organised or making it my device better.

So lets have a look at my top 5 Cydia tweaks below.

1. Flipover

This tweak lets you mute/lock your iPhone by putting it face down. Pick it back up, and it will automatically unmute or unlock your iPhone.

2. AutoAnswer

This tweak Auto Answers your iPhone when you have a call or a Facetime call. You can see this AutoAnswer in action in the video below

Click here to view the embedded video.

3. Lockinfo

LockInfo enables your Lock Screen to become more organised. It should have been a feature from the offset on the iPhone and would be busy persons dream feature.

It allows you to see emails, messages, weather, appointments, missed calls and todo lists all on the lockscreen of your device. I have to say that this is a great app and defo keeps me well organised.

There are loads of extra pluggins you can get for LockInfo just go to sections then addons (lockinfo).

4. FreeSync

Freesync tweak lets you use your Device while its syncing with iTunes. You are able to play games or make a call and run apps without having to waiting for it to finish syncing.

5. RetinaAppIcons

This tweak takes the standard icons and turns them into high quality icons so you dont have to look at the low resolution icons anymore. This tweak is just for the iPhone 4 and iPod touch 4G. If you haven’t got these devices I wood keep away from this one.

So if you currently have LockInfo, i’d suggest you definitely check this out and if you haven’t yet, you should now consider getting both for the price of one!

Hop on to Cydia and go to the ModMyI repo if you haven’t already and download it. The download is free and upon install it should check your license info.

Earlier this year we brought you the ‘Top 10 Cydia Apps‘ that told you about apps such as iFile and Lockinfo, well we have decided to do it again but this time we are not just going to give you the Top 10, we are going to bring you the best of Cydia.

Please be aware that these are not in any particular order and no themes will be mentioned as there are millions of them.

So here goes nothing…

WinterBoard

Price: Free

Developer: Saurik

Winterboard is the app that allows you to theme your iPhone. This app was developed by Saurik (Jay Freeman – maker of Cydia) to take the place of SummerBoard once OS 2.0 was released.

iFile

Price: $4.00

Developer: Carsten Heinelt

iFile is an app that lets you manage all the files on your idevice. It will allow you access to your iPhone under user root. It will allow you to edit, delete, move, and create folders on your device.

iFile will even let you send files to others via email. A Great App if you are into modifying theme files on the fly.

LockInfo

Price: $7.99

Developer: Stimpy5050

LockInfo enables your Lock Screen to become more organised. It should have been a feature from the offset on the iPhone and a would be busy persons dream.

It always you to see emails, messages, weather, appointments, missed calls and todo lists all on the lockscreen of your device. I have to say that this is a great app and defo keeps me well organised.

There are loads of extra pluggins you can get for LockInfo that allows you to see stuff like your RSS and Twitter feeds.

Navigate From Maps

Price: $1.99

Developer: Malcolm Hall

Navigate from Maps is another great feature that should have been stock on the iPhone. It allows you to search for a location in the stock maps app and then with the touch of a button it will send you straight to the TomTom or Navigon (you need to have these installed) and give you turn-by-turn directions straight to that place.

3G Unrestrictor

Price: $3.99

Developer: Kim Streich

3G Unrestrictor is possible one of the best tweaks that there is in the Cydia store. It allows your to use apps that locked to just using WiFi. This little beauty allows you to now download apps that are over 10Mb in the App Store and also make FaceTime Calls over 3G. Like I said possibly one of the best tweaks there is.

ScollingBoard

Price: $1.49

Developer: Limneos

ScrollingBoard is in fact 2 tweaks in 1. Firstly is allows you to have a scrollable dock, enabling you to have as many apps on your dock as you like. Secondly it gives you scrollable folders. This allows you to have as many apps in your folders as you like.

The best thing about this tweak is that it is half the price as some other well known tweaks that do the same thing.

SBRotator 4

Price: $1.99

Developer: Limneos

SBRotator is another tweak that had people waiting a long time for. It came out earlier this year and has only got better from there. Version 4 is a much cleaner code and works excellently on the iPhone 4. It enables you to use your springboard in landscape mode. Not only does it do that but it also rotates apps such as YouTube and Phone. This tweak also adds the iPod controls tot he left of the dock.

This tweak works excellently with ScrollingBoard.

PlayAwake

Price: $1.99

Developer: Hanene Samara

PlayAwake is a great app that makes the Alarm Clock app a million times better. PlayAwake allows you to use songs and podcasts straight from your iPod app as your alarm. Apple why oh why did you not do this.

FastSnap

Price: $0.99

Developer: FastSnap

We all love to take pictures with our iPhones and now iPod touches, but the button to take the snap just isn’t in that great of a place for easy. Well FastSnap is the perfect answer.

FastSnap will turn your volume buttons into the shutter switch. Arhhh thats better I hear you say.

Activator

Price: Free

Developer: Ryan Petrich

Activator is also one of the best tweaks to come the the iDevices. Basically it allows you to use gestures to launch other applications. Loads of new tweaks such as SBSettings, qTweeter, Multicleaner now use Activator to launch.

Once again Apple could learn something from this.

MultiCleaner

Price: $0.99

Developer: Petcu Marius

There are loads of tweaks in Cydia that all do this, but this is the one that I think does it the best. MultiCleaner removes the apps from the mutlitasking bar that no longer need to be there such as apps that do not use mutlitasking but still leave their icon there. MultiCleaner also complete all closes applications using the Activator Method. The app can also allow certain applications not to close at all.

PhoneCloser

Price: Free

Developer: Eimji

Once again Apple pay attention. PhoneCloser basically closes the phone application after you have hung up from receiving or making a call. It will also automatically remove the phone app from the multitasking bar.

MyWi 4.0

Price: $19:99

Developer: Intelliborn

Yep it does have a high price tag, but if you in need of a WiFi hotspot wherever you are then this is the App for you.

MyWi 4.0 basically turns your iPhone into a portable hotspot, allowing you to connect your iPad or laptop to the internet at any time. The App uses your data so make sure you have a decent or unlimited data package before you start running it.

SBSettings

Price: Free

Developer: BigBoss

This a a great tweak that lives up in your status bar. The a gesture using Activator that you have a bunch of toggle switches that make life easier for you. With this tweak you no longer have to go into the stock settings app to turn of things such as WiFi, Airplane mode or data.

A great thing about this tweak is that there are loads of pluggins for it in Cydia.

iBlacklist

Price: $12.00

iBlacklist is a great app to block unwanted calls and SMS. The App allows to to select people from your contacts list that you either do you do not wish to communicate with.

The App will hold a log of all the things that have been blocked. The App can either send the calls straight to voicemail or give the caller and engaged tone. This is a great App if you hate people that ring you that block their number (pesky sales people).

“what other tweaks / apps should I get from cydia”

So I have decided to give you guys and girls out there a run down on MyGreatiPhone.com’s best Cydia Apps.

Please note that these are in no particular order.

Number 1 – WinterBoard

The first app that springs to mind when I think of Cydia, is an app that makes most people jailbreak.

Winterboard is the app that allows you to theme your iPhone. This app was developed by Saurik (Jay Freeman – maker of Cydia) to take the place of SummerBoard once OS 2.0 was released.

Saurik made this so that people out there could once again start to theme their iPhones. Winterboard is free so if you want to change the look of your iDevice then go and grab it.

Number 2 – Lockinfo

Lockinfo is one of my favorite tweaks available in Cydia and over the last few months we have seen loads of new added features.

Lockinfo adds all the stuff to the lockscreen that should have been stock on the iPhone. Through Lockinfo I am able to view emails, SMS, notifications, rss feeds and my twitter all in a nice little organised display.

Lockinfo costs $4.99 and is available through the modmyi repo.

Keeps your eyes open for new things coming to Lockinfo soon.

Number 3 & 4 – iFile & Safari Download Manager

Now these 2 apps can not be separated really and they work really well together.

iFile is a a file manager with capabilites to email, edit, delete, copy, cut, paste, rename, view, compress, uncompress, install and transfer files.

Put that with Safari Download Manager which manages your downloads within iPhone Safari Browser. SDM supports almost every downloadable extension.

So lets think about this your out and about, your looking for a new theme on the web and find one you like. The trouble is that its in a .rar file well SDM will download it for you and the iFile will unrar it and allow you to move it to the right directory on your phone. Hay presto new theme. iFile costs $4.00 and is available from the bigboss repo while Safari Download Manager is $2.00 and is from the same repo.

Number 5 – SBSettings

SBSettings is a hud display that comes down from the status bar when you swipe you finger left to right over it.

Now SBSetting is not a one hit wonder app, it does many many things. It allows you to free up available memory, toggle things on & off such as wi-fi, bluetooth and 3G. The tweak also allows users to respring their iPhone aswell as reboot.

A couple of extra things SBSettings can do is hide icons or move them into its own little dock.

This tweak is free and is available from the bigboss repo

Number 6 – OpenSSH

Open SSH is a background utility that allows users to connect their iDevices over wi-fi to the Mac or PC. To use OpenSSH you will need a client programme on your machine such as WinSCP for windows. This will then allow you to log into your iDevice and look through the directories.

OpenSSH is a great tool for theme developers as it allows them to install their theme to test it out before they release it to the public.

OpenSSH is free and is a great way to mod files on your idevice.

Please be aware though that you can do potential damage with OpenSSH if you are unsure what you are doing with it.

Below are some videos to show you how to use OpenSSH

Click here to view the embedded video.

Click here to view the embedded video.

Number 7 & 8 – Proswitcher & Backgrounder

Proswitcher is a front end to the app backgrounder. It allows users to easily switch between apps with a simple gesture.

The app comes from the Palm Pre WebOS idea and looks similar.

The app uses a libary called libactivator and allows users to pick a gesture to start Proswitcher running. This could be anything from a double tap of the status bar to pinching the icons on the Springboard

Proswitcher is developed by chpwn & Ryan Petrich, developer of OverBoard and is available from the BigBoss repo for free.

Backgrounder is also a free app, and allows applications to run at the same time.

The only thing with Backgrounder is that it can be memory intensive as apps are not designed to be run in the background (something that Apple should have really thought about).

If however, you have a 3GS iPhone, you should not really see a problem.

Number 9 – qTweeter

qTweeter is one of the teams favourite twitter clients. It allows you to update both your Twitter account and Facebook account at the same time.

With just a swipe down from the status bar the app appears. You can post vids, pics and geotag straight from this little tweak and the best bit about it is that you can open it while any other app is open also.

qTweeter costs $4.99.

Number 10 – Quickreply

QuickReply is a SMS tweak that allows you to respond to any SMS / MMS from any app or lockscreen.

When activated a pop-up appears with the message and whom it is from and then gives you 3 options, Close, View and Reply.

The close option will do just that and close the bubble, View will close your current app and open the Messages app and Reply will show you the message and a keyboard overlaying your current app.

QuickReply costs $2.99 and is available from the BigBoss repo.

So there you have it people MyGreatiPhone.com’s top 10 Cydia apps. Now not all of us use every single one of these but we all use some of them. There are loads more tweaks and apps in cydia that are great but we feel that we can not live with out these ones.

So unlock your iPhone now, scroll over to Cydia and have a look for yourselves, I bet you download at least one of these if you don’t use them already.

We have recently updated this list and a newer version can be found at ‘The Best Cydia Apps’

I got in touch with David to see if I was able to have a peak and he said go for it so here is a run down of what the newest version will have to offer.

David has introduced some great new ideas and the main one that Nazaroth and myself love is the ability to now reply to SMS straight from the lockscreen. David has managed to do this by implementing this feature to work with QuickReply and iRealSMS (one of these need to be installed to reply from lockinfo)

The other great feature that David has implemented is the ability to hide and call on Lockinfo at any point for eg. when in an app. To do this he has coded LI to work with activator to use gestures.

Other things include:

- Full screen previews
- Navigate through mails in preview mode without having to dismiss the preview
- Switch to stop the screen from dimming when a preview is showing.
- Clear missed call list
- Bug fixes

After chatting to David on twitter LI 2.1 looks to be released to the public in the next 2 weeks, we can’t wait.

Have a look here for more info about Lockinfo.

wr For the last week Myself and Nazaroth have been testing a update to a familiar tweak to the iPhone Jailbreak community called LockInfo 2.0.

LockInfo is a popular tweak for the iPhone as it allows users to view calendar events, emails, missed calls and SMS straight from the Lockscreen. But with 2.0 there are now plenty more features.

LockInfo is writen by David Ashman and has come along way since its initial release that depended on Winterboard to be used and SSH to change features. Now-a-days the tweak runs itself and settings can be changed straight from the settings app on your iPhone.

So I bet your all thinking what does 2.0 bring us, well here is the answer to your questions.

Changes in 2.0 are as follows:

Email previews including deleting emails from the preview
Mark emails and SMS as read directly from the lock screen.
Push notification support including status bar notifications.
Homescreen can now share the screen with icons.
Small, medium and large font selection.

So lets go into each one of these feature individually:

Email previews including deleting emails from the preview

This New Feature allows you to touch the email that you have received and screen will ‘flip’ round and show you the entire email and allow you to scroll up and down through the email.

Mark emails and SMS as read directly from the lock screen.

This feature allows user to mark emails and SMS as read therefore canceling the notification dot above the icon on the homescreen. This is done by pressing the little ‘x’ to the right of either the SMS or email.

Push notification support including status bar notifications.

One of the most exciting new features bought to you by 2.0 is that LockInfo now shows any notification from any App that supports notifications. This is an excellent addition to this tweak.

Homescreen can now share the screen with icons.

When LockInfo was updated in December to 1.1 it enabled users to see the details from LockInfo on the homescreen by creating a new page. Well now in 2.0 this new page will also show the docked icons.

Small, medium and large font selection.

In all previous versions of LockInfo the size of the writing on the LockScreen could not be adjusted. Mr Ashman has now allowed it to be changed from Small, Medium and Large.

David Ashman has also added a few other small tweaks to 2.0 one of them being that emails now have privacy settings that allows you to turn off both the Subject of the email whether to show a preview of the email.

Over the versions on LockInfo there has been a few issues with it being able to handle emails correctly, well David has spent alot of time on this and finally got it working excellently.

But this is not all LockInfo is capable of, there are loads of settings for the tweak that lets you customize it just the way you like.

Each section has its own header so you can tell what is going on. Each of these sections can be collapsed so that your favorite photo on your lockscreen is not invaded by all that extra useful info. You can make it so that the section when not collapsed are see through or not. You can even choose if you what the sections to show all the time (even if you don’t have anything to go in there) and whether or not you want the sections to be collapsed by default.

This tweak allows users to choose whether you want to display emails from all the accounts on your iPhone or just your most important email address. This is also the same for your calender.

So is that the lot that LockInfo has to offer, well NO, it also allows you to Block Popups, so no more of those nasty little blue boxes on the lockscreen stopping you from seeing all that useful new infomation.

David Ashman has spent a lot of time and attention to detail on this release, but while also making these additions he has managed to fix a few bugs also. These include:

Fixed disappearing Lockscreen and Homescreen

Compatibility fixes for Music Controls

Compatibility fixes or SmartScreen

Many other minor fixes.

As I said before I have been using this tweak for about a week now and it is an excellent addition for my iPhone. It is not the final release yet as David has a few other things to adjust, but we’ll let you know when you can get it and where from.

The Tweak costs $4.99 which is well worth it and David also offers a 14 day trial period. He has also made a few plugins for LockInfo which include Twitter, Weather and Todo.

So here are my final thought on this:

I love the fact that I can see all my unread emails and SMS without having to unlock my phone. I love that I can see what @ tweets I got through Boxcar and what Yak messages I have got from the guys here at MyGreatiPhone.com without having to open these apps.

If I could sum this tweak up in three works they would be I LOVE IT.
