Recently, developer John Heaton, also known as @gojohnnyboi on Twitter, has released the first public preview of his newest jail breaking tweak, Abstergo. This is a ridiculously simple tweak which will allow users to do something they have desperately wanted to do since the inception of iOS 5: clear all of their lock screen notification alerts with one simple action, all at once. This might not sound like a very intensive tweak, and that’s because it isn’t: it’s elegant, and simple: something that frankly, is surprising that Apple had not incorporated into their own iOS on release. This tweak represents the essence of what it is to jailbreak, and take control of your iDevice. It represents perfectly what the jail breaking community is about in terms of ingenuity and innovation. Despite many people’s claims, most recently in U.S. Congress, that jail breaking is simply a way to allow a user to obtain copyrighted material and intellectual properties (i.e., “apps”) for free by pirating them, the heart and soul of jail breaking in the first place has always been about taking control of what your iDevice is and is not capable of achieving. To change or even remove the limitations that Apple places on the hardware that you purchased and legally own. And by releasing this elegantly simple tweak, Mr. Heaton has done an exemplary job of displaying that desire to constantly improve on an already uniquely enjoyable user experience. Kudos to him.

While not very much is known about this tweak, Abstergo, John has released the first ever public preview as we mentioned above in the form of a video that was linked to via his Twitter account. The exact tweet is as follows:

Here’s the first ever public video demonstration of Abstergo for iOS 5! (Note: it isn’t done yet, subject to change)gojohnnyboi.com/projects/Abste…

— John Heaton (@Gojohnnyboi) February 2, 2012

Please feel free to shoot @gojohnnyboi a tweet and let him know what you think of the videos, and offer up suggestions, etc. And until then, if you simply just want to view the video, then click here. I know I’ll be keeping on eye on the progress, and so should you. This is going to be a simple yet ridiculously useful one, people. As always, we’ll keep you updated.

iOS jail breaking is nothing new. It was first announced soon after the original Apple iPhone became available in July 2007, thanks to an enterprising hacker named George “Geohotz” Hotz, and soon a jailbreak-only game application became available. In October 2007, the first ever jailbreak tool had become available called ‘JailbreakMe‘ 1.0 (also called “AppSnapp” back in the day) which allowed people to jailbreak iPhone OS 1.1.1 on both the iPhone and iPod touch, and it included Installer.app as a way to install software for the jailbroken device. Cydia simply didn’t exist at that time.

Now, 2012, instead of Installer.app we had a new king of the hill, Cydia: a native iOS APT client used for finding and installing software for jailbroken iOS devices. The main reason people jailbreak is because doing so allows them to expand the feature set which has been limited by Apple and it’s App Store. Cydia has become very popular over the years with developers working hard to release new stuff into the jailbreak world such as themes, tweaks, and things that you would not imagine your iDevice was capable of otherwise.

Over the years we have had lots of jailbreak tools to grant us root access our iOS devices such as redsn0w, sn0wbreeze, PwnageTool, blacksn0w, purplera1n, and those are only the ‘popular‘ ones. There are two diffident types of jailbreak: 1) a tethered jailbreak, which requires that the device be connected to a computer each time it needs to be booted, and; 2) an untethered jailbreak, which allows the device to be powered on or rebooted without computer assistance.

Above, was a bit of history about jailbreaking your iOS device. Back on July 26th of 2010, the US government made the act of jailbreaking electronic devices legal by federal law.

Over the years we’ve been enjoying this freedom, tweaks, themes, and just putting the device in your hands and not Apple’s. But according to the EFF (Electronic Frontier Foundation), we could lose that freedom this year if we don’t act now.

The EFF writes:

“Smartphones, tablets, and video game consoles are powerful computers with lots of untapped potential. Yet many of these devices are set up to run only software that’s been approved by the manufacturer. Modifying a device to run independent software – known as jailbreaking – is important to programmers, enthusiasts, and users. But jailbreaking creates legal uncertainty. Some device manufacturers claim that jailbreaking violates Section 1201 of the Digital Millennium Copyright Act (DMCA), which carries stiff penalties.”

The ruling handed down by the Copyright Office in 2010 is due to expire this year and the EFF is looking to convince the Office to renew the exemption. Otherwise jailbreaking falls back into a murky semi-illegal state giving device manufacturers the power to pursue legal action against jailbreakers at will.

The EFF provides this link to the Copyright Office’s comment board. The Office needs to hear why folks think that jailbreaking is so important. The EFF wants to hear you and here are a few thing you can say to let the jailbreaking world keep running as it is:

Which jailbreaking exemption are you supporting—smartphones/tablets, video game consoles, or both?

What’s your background (are you a developer, hobbyist, user, independent researcher, etc.)?

What device do you want to ensure you have the legal authority to jailbreak?

What limitations would you face if you weren’t able to jailbreak?

Comments should be marked as class “5″ and are due by 5 PM ET on February 10. MyGreatiPhone will keep you notified on the EFF’s progress, so keep checking back. Give us your thoughts below? We’d love to hear.

The person who brought us the first iPhone hardware unlock, George Hotz (or Geohot as he’s commonly known) has been rumoured to have parted company with Mark Zuckerberg’s Facebook and is reportedly back on the hacking scene.

Many of you might remember Geohot for developing and released the Limera1n jailbreak tool and then being dragged through the courts by Sony for developing and releasing tutorials for a ‘jailbreak’ on the Playstation 3. Once the dust settled around his court case Geohot disappeared from the hacking scene and took a job working for the Facebook social network.

Well now it appears that he has recently quit from his position there and has been reported to be taking part in ‘Hackathon’ at a start up named Backplane, which was rather surprising funded by none other than Lady Gaga.

During the competition, Geohot built an application which showed where your Facebook friends were at any time, on a map, using their check-ins. Working alongside Aviv Ovadya, Hotz concentrated on extracting API information and programming it into location data.

The jailbreak community is brimming with talent, you only need to look at the work done by the Chronic dev team, the iPhone dev team and of course the newly formed A5 ‘dream team’ consisting of members from PlanetBeing but getting Geohot back onto the scene would surely be a welcome addition.

There is no confirmation that Geohot has left Facebook, or he has indeed returned to the iOS scene, but this news is certain to generate a lot of interest amongst the jailbreak community.

As usual we will keep you informed with any more news on this exciting development, keep checking back here.

This isn’t good news if it turns out to be more than just a coincidence.

It has also been mentioned that Siri may use FairPlay which we hear DOES have some level of Jb detection.

FairPlay is a digital rights management (DRM) technology created by Apple Inc., based on technology created by the company Veridisc. FairPlay is built into the QuickTime multimedia software and used by the iPhone, iPod, iPad, Apple TV, iTunes, and iTunes Store and the App Store.

Anyone seen any jailbreak detection in Siri? Siri stopped working after a day of running with jailbroken kernel on the iPhone 4S …

— Stefan Esser (@i0n1c) January 19, 2012

** Further information from @i0n1c confirms that after a simple reboot Siri resumed operation as normal. Crisis averted people! **

Grooveshark has made it’s way back on to the iPhone and iPad, thanks to an all new mobile-friendly HTML5 Web App that the company has built from scratch, this means that there will be no Adobe flash required, it is just HTML5 and lets you stream music across various platforms.

The mobile-friendly HTML5 Web App supports these platforms, iOS (both iPad and iPhone including iPod touch as well), Android 2.3+, Blackberry Playbook, and the HP TouchPad.

Grooveshark was released into the Apple AppStore back in August 2010, but it didn’t last long, because a few hours later on the same day the Grooveshark team had received a letter from Apple basically saying that they had received a complaint from the Universal Music Group UK, due to that the company decided to remove the app from the ITunes AppStore.

After that, the Grooveshark team decided to release the free-service app into the Jailbreak world without being under Apple’s command and you could have the app on your iPhone by going in to Cydia and downloading it (and you still can) but if you haven’t got a Jailbroken device there was no way you could get it, until now.

Grooveshark is a music streaming service that allows users to search for, stream, and upload music you like that will be played instantly on your device or you could add it in to a playlist, which brings all the music you want to listen to and puts it in to a group of music for you to listen anytime and anywhere. For unlimited access and no ads on mobile, you can get Grooveshark Anywhere for $9 per month.

Grooveshark is one of the many streaming services, like Spotify and Pandora (US only) that allow you to stream music instantly without the need to download it first.

If you check out MyGreatPhone and MyGreatTablet everyday you know that recently Amazon had launched a HTML5 web app for the iPad that allows customers to purchase Kindle ebooks, Apple didn’t let Amazon offer purchase links for ebooks in its native iOS app because it violated the App Store’s guidelines.

You can have access to the HTML5 web app at http://html5.grooveshark.com/ on your mobile device.

With announcements about @pod2g and his dream team working hard on making the exploit possible it seems that all eyes are firmly fixed on them.

For iPhone 4[s] users it’s been a long 3 month wait for a jailbreak and for iPad 2 users who updated to iOS 5 it has been a lengthy 7 months but it looks like there is finally light at the end of the tunnel as @pod2g announced this on his blog post…

“Here are some news about the current work on the A5 research. @planetbeing escaped from the sandbox with the help of @saurik. Thanks to their awesome work, there should be nothing left blocking for the A5 jailbreak. Now it should be a matter of days. Still no precise ETA of course. We all want this to be finished ASAP, we’re getting tired!”

This post surely shows that the ‘dream team’ has made huge progress over the last few days. It was recently reported that the hackers had cleared sandbox and resolved all of the major blocking issues but there was still no update as to when we could expect a jailbreak to be released and today @pod2g has stated that it’s only a matter of days although this is an estimate.

The team, who are still working tirelessly to get a jailbreak released, could face a lot more problems between now and a release date but this shows that they are getting ever closer to achieving their goal.

Keep checking back here for more updates as it appears that an A5 jailbreak could literally be here any day.

Not so long ago we informed you that jailbreak guru @pod2g had enlisted the help of some of the greatest developers and hackers in his quest to find the solution to his iOS 5 untethered jailbreak on A5 devices.

After getting so far by himself, @pod2g teamed up with members of both the Chronic and iPhone Dev teams to help him finalise his iOS 5 untethered jailbreak for older A4 devices. We have all seen his work implemented in the updated version of Redsn0w and through the Corona utility on Cydia, which can be used on devices already using a tethered jailbreak.

If you had an iPhone 4[s] or an iPad 2 though, you were out of luck in regards to an untethered jailbreak on your device due to the team not having the relevant exploits to inject the untethered files. In order to obtain these files the jailbreakers needed to get them from an official developers account and therefore they could not be released to the general public for everyone to enjoy.

Well it now appears that the dream team have recruited a new, famous, member with MuscleNerd tweeting that the creator of Cydia, Jay Freeman (AKA Saurik) will be lending a helping hand with the A5 version of @pod2g’s untethered jailbreak. Due to his experience in this area, he did express that he would not put an ETA on when this will happen but things are moving forward.

In another tweet @pod2g also paid thanks to another legendary hacker PlanetBeing, who has also been providing a helping hand to try and alleviate sandboxing issues which the team has been experiencing. It’s believed that his knowledge and skills may help to move this jailbreak forward than would be possible if he wasn’t involved.

As usual we will keep you posted on any more developments as they arrive.

The majority of people who are a part of the jailbreak community have been keeping their eyes fairly much glued on their computers waiting for an announcement of when there should be an untethered jailbreak for the iPhone 4[s] and in particular on the twitter account of @pod2g.

Back in November he sent a tweet out stating that he had managed to find a bug in the iOS 5 software which he believed could lead to a jailbreak being released. And he was true two his word when recently he released an untethered jailbreak for iOS 5.0.1 devices with an A4 chip.

However, the one thing that @pod2g has been struggling with is a jailbreak for the iPhone 4[s] and the iPad 2 as they both run using the dual-core A5 chip and with the released of the Corona jailbreak, the research needed to get a jailbreak for the devices using the dual-core A5 chip has taken something of a back seat. Recently @pod2g disabled the ability for viewers of his blog post to post comments, which he offered his sincerest apologies for.

Now it seems that @pod2g has released a new blog post which features a number of FAQ’s which are designed to clear up any confusion as to why he is unable to find a jailbreak at this time for the iPhone 4[s] and iPad 2.

The first question relates to the fact that @pod2g has actually managed to get his own iPhone 4[s] on an untethered jailbreak and why it hasn’t been released for everyone else to take advantage of. This is because of legalities involved in distributing a jailbreak for public consumption. This is because the files which @pod2g used to inject into his device come from an Apple developers account and until they find a distributable exploit which enables to Corona files to be set in the correct position it will remain impossible.

The next set of questions focus on the fact that a untethered jailbreak on A4 devices was easier because there was already a jailbreak available which was a good enough foundation for the Corona files to be installed.

Its fair to say that the amount of work put into these jailbreaks is at times unappreciated it’s not always easy to get a jailbreak released for everyone to enjoy. A lot of the time the jailbreaks are released for us to download for free and the guys who put the effort in rely solely on donations.

However, he has stated that work will continue to go on in an attempt to find the required exploits and make a jailbreak available to us all and hopefully, fingers crossed, we will see an A5 jailbreak solution soon.

The well-known marketplace for cracked apps, AppTrackr, has announced in a recent blog post that Apple have been issuing take down notices over violation of iOS application copyrights.

As some of you may be familiar with, AppTrackr is a copy of Apples app store and it contains a cracked copy of app store applications. AppTrackr is used via the iPhone jailbreak Install0us, which allows users to installed cracked apps on their jailbroken devices.

The AppTrackr crew are now believed to be moving their servers to countries without a copyright law in order to protect AppTrackr from any lawsuits which Apple may start to throw their way.

As usual we will keep you informed as more on this story comes to light.

The beta 2 version of redsn0w includes a few bugs fixes, like the launchctl-related problem founded by @planetbeing and many more to do with @Pod2g’s Untethered Jailbreak.

Update #2: The b2 version of redsn0w includes the launchctl-related fix by @planetbeing as mentioned by @saurik here and here. As usual, you can just re-run redsn0w in jailbreak mode over your existing 5.0.1 jailbreak (even a PwnageTool one), making sure to de-select “Install Cydia” if you do. Always be sure to do a controlled “slide to power off” shutdown of your device before running redsn0w.

As usual, you can re-run the latest version of redsn0w in jailbreak mode over your existing iOS 5.0.1 jailbreak, but when you do, please note: make sure you un-check the “Install Cydia” button because it will overwrite the existing Cydia install and you may have to restore your device.

Download the latest redSn0w by the following links below:

Merry Christmas from the iPhone Devteam and the Chronic devteam it would seem! After Pod2g sent them his jailbreak, they have put it into redsn0w 0.9.10 and PwnageTool, and the chronic devteam put it into a Cydia package (the same set of exploits is in all three).

This is for Non A5 devices only, so you must be on a iPhone3GS, iPhone4, iPhone4-CDMA, iPad1, iPod touch 3G, iPod touch 4G, running iOS 5.0.1.

Download RedSnow 0.9.10b1 on Mac or Windows (run as administrator).

As mentioned earlier, @pod2g has spent months working on all the exploits and tricks in this untether, and many of you may be wondering how you can send donations. Although the iPhone devteam itself doesn’t take donations, we thought it was appropriate to provide a link at the end of the redsn0w run for you to more easily donate directly to @pod2g if you wish (alternatively, you can go right here). There’s a link in the Cydia package for donating to the chronic devteam for the Cydia version of @pod2g’s untether.

@pod2g is now looking for a way to extend this to A5 devices. Because those devices cannot use geohot’s limera1n exploit to inject the untether, they require exploits above and beyond those used for this release. Keep following pod2g on twitter or his blog for any progress reports!

Well done, Pod2G!

For some very odd reason, known hacker and security guru Stefan Esser (i0n1c) has tweeted that he will do an untethered jailbreak for iOS 4.3.5. Yeah, not iOS 5, but iOS 4.3.5…

The majority of my followers sees no need in an iOS 4.3.5 untether. I guess that leaves me no option: I will do an iOS 4.3.5 untether

It could be that there are still a number of dedicated jailbreakers that haven’t wished to ditch their untethered jailbreaks are likely still on iOS 4.3.3 (it was the last firmware that can be untethered jailbroken, via JailbreakMe). However, as the majority think there is no need, he seems to think thats the perfect reason to make it happen. Eh?!

We are still waiting to see how the Chronic-Dev team gets on with their iOS5 untethered jailbreak, which Pod2G handed over to them.

An iTunes tweak or custom restore tool will be eventually be released to use those blobs for downgrading to iOS 5.0.1. However there is no word on when this will be available.

For now, though, it is recommended that you contine using RedSn0w to save your SHSH blobs so that you’ll have a copy which can be used to stitch a custom ipsw.

Earlier today, @Pod2g handed over his iOS 5 untethered jailbreak for A4 devices to the Chronic-Dev Team. In doing so, he hopes to focus on the A5 jailbreak.

This will allow @pod2g to get the iPhone 4S jailbreak back up to speed. This is very good news for owners of both A4 and A5 devices, because that means that both are being heavily worked on.

Just to be clear, the A5 devices are as follows;

Apple iPad 2 — March 2011

Apple iPhone 4S — October 2011

These are the ones that @pod2G is focusing on, And the A4 Devices are the ones that the Chronic Dev Team are focusing on and these are;

Apple iPad — April 2010

Apple iPhone 4 — June 2010 (Black; GSM), February 2011 (Black; CDMA), April 2011 (White; GSM & CDMA)

Apple iPod Touch 4th gen — September 2010 (Black model), October 2011 (White model)

From pod2g’s blog;

I read the comments on the blog, and I know that a lot of people are waiting for the A5 jailbreak.

Also, I know there are tons of people out there with A4 or even earlier devices who wants the untether now and don’t care about it could be interesting to wait A5 is finished to release or even 5.1, so that we don’t waste an exploit that took me months to find and develop.

I need to focus on A5 and hope I can find a path quick, and I have the feeling that chronic-dev could help me.

So, here is what I did:
- I gave all the details to the chronic dev team so that they can finish, test, integrate and release the A4 jb ASAP.
- I’ll put all my energy from now on on the A5

Hope I don’t disappoint.

See you.

A few weeks back, we reported that @Pod2g had uploaded a video on YouTube showing off his jailbreak project and in that video he showed of an iPod Touch 3rd Generation running on iOS5 and since then he hasn’t posted another video, until now.

Earlier today, @Pod2g posted/uploaded a video demonstrating an untethered jailbreak of iOS 5.0.1 on the iPhone 4. In the Jailbreak video he shows off the following actions:

Open Cydia and let it load

Reboots device

Open Cydia and let it load again

From pod2g’s blog post:

Hello,

Here is a new video demo of the current status of the 5.0.1 jailbreak running on an iPhone 4.

This is meant to reassure people that were thinking it only works on older iPods.

The jailbreak is nearly ready for prime time (excluding 4S and iPad 2).

Patches are the same as redsn0w’s. Expect the same level of stability.

Some more days to wait. Be patient, we’re doing our best.

We will update you as and when it is released publicly, so keep your eyes peeled. Fingers crossed we will see an untethered jailbreak soon. We will soon find out, but for now let @Pod2g get on with his life and stop asking him on twitter.

Last night, we reported that jailbreak guru @pod2g was having caching issues with the iPhone 4[s], making it difficult for him to move forward with an untethered jailbreak.

Well now it looks like those problems are well and truly behind him, thanks to a bit of help from jailbreak master @Saurik, moving him even closer to releasing the highly anticipated untethered jailbreak.

On his own blog, @pod2g explained:

I discussed with @saurik today about the launchd boot process, and he’s found one missing piece of the puzzle I needed to have a perfectly stable jailbreak. He’s definitly one of the best iOS gurus out there. Thank you saurik!

So what does this mean? Well, with the help of @Saurik, @pod2g has solved one of the lingering issues and also resolved the caching problem which he was having with the A5 chip.

With these problems out of the way it would seem that an untethered jailbreak for the iPhone 4[s] is nearing release and should be with us all shortly. As usual, no ETA has been given, but it is speculated that @pod2g is working feverishly to get it out before the holidays. We’ll keep you updated, just keep on checking back here.

Tw1sted_N8, a member of the team that released the ac1dn0w jailbreak, alleged on his twitter that Pod2g, one of the skilled iPhone hackers currently working on the 4S jailbreak, has been working hard to try and make progress on the untethered jailbreak for the iPhone 4S but unfortunately he has hit a stumbling block.

Pod2g tested his untether on his new 4S and it failed. He says it’s relative to the processor cache and multicore cache management issues

— Nate (@Tw1sted_N8) December 19, 2011

On Pod2g’s own blog he states:

“The untether fails right now because I’m having processor cache issues.

I’m close, but I can’t figure out what happens. It certainly has something to do with the multicore cache”

He later changed it to:

“I’m close, but I can’t figure out what happens. It certainly has something to do with the Cortex-A9 cache management.”

As things currently stand there is no current jailbreak for the iPhone 4S (untethered or otherwise) but it certainly seems that a jailbreak is getting closer, with pod2g stating that it’s a “matter of chance” and it may only be a matter of time before one is released and, as with the iPad 2 jailbreak, we will just have to remain patient for a little bit longer.

As you already will be aware, Apple today sent live yet another version of iOS 5.0.1 specifically for the iPhone 4s only. This is allegedly supposed to address key battery issues still being experienced by many users.

This build, however, is slightly different. Normally Apple encrypts the ipsw file, meaning that decrypting and redistributing parts of it for whatever reason (extracting siri files for example) is regarded as piracy. This new build has seemingly been left wide open. MuscleNerd elaborates;

Huh…today’s 4S 5.0.1 bump (9A406) has wide open main fs musclenerd.com/4s406.txt

(to clarify: wide open for inspection from a Mac/PC…not wide open security wise Can get Siri files and such without piracy)

— MuscleNerd (@MuscleNerd) December 15, 2011

This is an obvious oversight by Apple, obvious and very unlike them.

Porting Siri is not at the top of my list of things I want to see from this as I paid to have Siri, but if it helps with furthering progress on a jailbreak then it can’t be bad.

Last week, we reported that @Pod2g had been testing an iOS 5 untethered jailbreak and he showed off a video of an iPod Touch 3rd generation jailbroken, running iOS 5.0 (Click here to see the full article). @Pod2g did not announce anything about it working on 5.0.1 until recently on Twitter. He stated that he has successfully jailbroken his iPhone 4 running iOS 5.0.1. If however you rely on a soft unlock then you should still hang fire on updating. This is exactly what he tweeted;

Got an untethered iPhone 4 running iOS 5.0.1. Feel free to update.

— pod2g (@pod2g) December 12, 2011

So will we see a jailbreak coming soon? We will soon find out, but for now let @Pod2g get on with his life and stop asking him on twitter. He made sure not to give out an ETA for a reason. We will update you as soon as it is released publicly, so keep your eyes peeled.

In this release there are some minor bug fixes and one useful addition. You can now delete new and existing photos from your photo stream.

OTA updates seem to be disabled in beta 1 so this update needs to be performed using iTunes.

As always this release is intended for developers and test devices only. If you are awaiting the untethered jailbreak for 5.0 or 5.0.1 then it is best to stay away from 5.1.

The video shows an iPod Touch 3rd Gen jailbroken on 5.0. This comes after his announcement early last month that he had found an exploit.

Like all authentic jailbreak video demo’s, it goes like this;

Show firmware version in Settings.app

Open Cydia and let it load

Reboot device

Open Cydia and let it load again

This shows that this is an authentic untethered jailbreak.

Click here to view the embedded video.

According to pod2g his method does NOT rely on Charlie Millers code signing vulnerability found a few months back. However as this is the first public untethered jailbreak, it will be interesting to see if Apple uses the incremental update functionality to kill this straight away.

@i0n1c @0xcharlie hello. No it does not rely on it. Next step do the same on iOS 5.0.1. Should be quick.

— pod2g (@pod2g) December9, 2011

If you want this jailbreak when it is released you currently need to be on iOS 5.0, but pod2g has said it should be easy to do the same for 5.0.1 and maybe 5.1? No word yet on which devices this jailbreak will cover.

We will update you as and when it is released publicly. This news comes just as comex publicly confirmed on Twitter that he no longer works on jailbreaks, which isn’t that surprising as he recently took an internship at Apple.

Even before the public release of iOS 5.0 it was known that Apple was to make downgrading much more difficult. You can find more info here.

Although using TinyUmbrella and Cydia users have been able to save their SHSH, up to now they have not been able to do anything useful with them, until now.

In a tweet from Musclenerd a couple of hours ago, the hacker announced that a new version of Redsn0w will soon be released:

Upcoming redsn0w release makes both TinyUmbrella and Cydia blob saves useful for 5.0+ (1st verifies, then stitches)

A tweet after this gives a little more away and hints at the possible ability to downgrade from a 5.0 firmware.

For time being, please just use most recent TU to save 5.0.1 blobs+APTicket…redsn0w will do the rest, should you need to restore.

Last night P0sixninja tweeted a few times about a blog post that he was going to post on Greenpois0n.com, and then this morning that post was published.

The post in question talks about a new tool that the Chronic Dev team have created called ‘Chronic Dev Crash Reporter’ and how it will help the team develop further Jailbreak tools.

First of all you may be wondering what has happened to the 5 exploits that @P0sixninja said the team had back in September when they spoke at a conference, well it seems that these have been ‘lost’ to use a better word…

Unfortunately, that announcement was a bit premature, because in the subsequent weeks, Apple found & patched a (critical) few of those exploits, between the beta versions we used for testing and the final release of iOS5 on October 12

When they say “bit premature” I think they are certainly right, I believe that if they did have these then nothing should have been said at all and maybe they would still have them!!

The Chronic Dev team post goes on to talk about how these exploits may have been ‘lost’ and Apple come to patch them.

Every time any program crashes on your iPhone, a “crash report” is generated and instantly sent back to Apple……….. It’s possible to change your iTunes settings to stop sending this diagnostic information back to Apple, and of course everyone in Chronic Dev has made this change on all our development machines. However, even this is not always 100% effective at preventing Apple from obtaining our data. For instance, if one of us is at a friend’s house and plugs our iPhone up to his or her computer (even just to charge it), it’s very likely that computer is set up to send all our valuable data & crash reports right back to Apple.

This is where the ‘Chronic Dev Crash Reporter’ comes into play. The tool once installed (Mac only at the moment) changes where the crash reports get sent.

By simply launching the program, connecting your device and hitting the “Do it” button, Chronic Dev Crash Reporter will find your Crash logs and send them directly to the Chronic Dev team.

I have to say that the UI is excellent and the program could not be simpler to use. It found 24 crash logs on my iPhone 4S and sent them straight off, all in a few seconds.

Its worth noting that Chronic Dev Crash Reporter is still in beta at the moment but @P0sixninja says that a Windows and Final Mac version will be released in around 24 hours.

Check out our video below….

Click here to view the embedded video.

My personal opinion to this program is that if have ever Jailbroken your device or have an iPad 2 or iPhone 4S and you wish to Jailbreak again then get downloading the Chronic Dev Crash Reporter here. This is your opportunity to give a little back to help the Devs that make Jailbreaking possible.

However, it seems like iOS5.0.1 hasn’t really helped at all…..

A number of reports and comments are stating that upgrading to iOS5.0.1 hasn’t helped to fix the bugs which are plaguing our iPhone batteries at all; instead it seems that we still have to disable location services in order to get a full days worth of juice out of our batteries. We talked about this issue when iOS5 was first released and wrote our own list of battery saving tips, so if you are having battery issues check those out.

Also remember that if you have jailbroken your handset it’s not advised to upgrade to iOS5.0.1!

If you’ve got any other battery saving tips or have any battery horror stories then let us know in the comments

There has been a lot of talk recently in the iPhone world of using URL shortcuts to launch apps but today it was found that these same URL shortcuts can be used to get straight to certain places in the settings menu to turn different things on and off.

The way of doing this involves using a certain app called IconProject which is available in the AppStore for just 69p (99C). The app allows you to place loads of different custom icons on your homescreen including contacts to call or SMS or even a particular Skype number/contact. The great thing about iCon Project is it allows you to totally customise your icons to your liking for example you can change the colour, give it a boarder and even change the picture that the icons uses.

Now without a Jailbreak for the iPhone 4S turning things on and off like Bluetooth and WiFi involves you having to go through a few different menus in the settings app now with this tip you can get straight there from your homescreen.

Below is the list of codes/ shortcuts that you need to use to get these settings to work:

About — prefs:root=General&path=About
Accessibility — prefs:root=General&path=ACCESSIBILITY
Airplane Mode On — prefs:root=AIRPLANE_MODE
Music — prefs:root=MUSIC
Music Equalizer — prefs:root=MUSIC&path=EQ
Music Volume Limit — prefs:root=MUSIC&path=VolumeLimit
Network — prefs:root=General&path=Network
Nike + iPod — prefs:root=NIKE_PLUS_IPOD
Notes — prefs:root=NOTES
Notification — prefs:root=NOTIFICATIONS_ID
Phone — prefs:root=Phone
Photos — prefs:root=Photos
Profile — prefs:root=General&path=ManagedConfigurationList
Reset — prefs:root=General&path=Reset
Safari — prefs:root=Safari
Siri — prefs:root=General&path=Assistant
Sounds — prefs:root=Sounds
Software Update — prefs:root=General&path=SOFTWARE_UPDATE_LINK
Store — prefs:root=STORE
Twitter — prefs:root=TWITTER
Usage — prefs:root=General&path=USAGE
VPN — prefs:root=General&path=Network/VPN
Wallpaper — prefs:root=Wallpaper
Wi-Fi — prefs:root=WIFI

Check the vid below on a full tutorial on how to get this to work….

The only downside to this is that if you remove Icon Project from your device then these shortcut icons that you have made will not work!

I have to say that I am loving this trick and hope that you like it too.

Recently, iH8sn0w updated his Jailbreaking tool Sn0wbreeze to version 2.8 beta 11, this update supports the just released iOS 5.0.1 (9A405) and also fixes some bugs.

This jailbreak is still a tethered Jailbreak for all devices other than the iPhone 3GS old bootrom.

This jailbreak is not for the iPhone 4S or the iPad 2 so keep well away.

Reminder: If your on iOS5 and want an untethered Jailbreak then do not update to iOS 5.0.1. It could destroy your chances of an untethered iOS 5 Jailbreak (More info Here).

* Supports iOS 5.0 (9A334)/5.0.1 (9A405)

* Fixed iBooks sandbox crashing issues (as of 2.8b9).

* Fixed location services issues with iPhone 3GS users running the iPad baseband (as of 2.8b9).

* Re-added iPad baseband install option to iPhone 3GS.

* Tethered devices are booted via iBooty which is extracted to the Desktop after running sn0wbreeze.

You can download Sn0wbreeze v2.8 beta 11 from the following link http://mygre.at/h7

So while catching up on Twitter this morning I came across an image showing an app in the AppStore. This particular app is simply called “Jailbreak”. It makes no attempt to hide what it is trying to be, it states all of the devices that it works on and gives users the impression that it is a legal Jailbreak, a $10 Jailbreak!!

How in the hell this was approved I have no idea but it needs to be taken down straight away!

Now, at the time of this writing, and after sending a strongly worded support email, it seems that Apple has forced the developer to amend the description for his app as it now displays as the overpriced game that it is.

It beggars belief that Apple can be so lax with matters like this yet they will keep good, honest developers waiting months for approval.

Even when we think we’ve fully explored iOS5 and all it has to offer, a secret feature appears and surprises us. The latest to do this is the ‘Autocorrect Keyboard Bar’, which looks very similar to the correction bar on Android handsets. This bar, as you’d assume, lets you autocorrect your spelling and complete your word based on letters you’ve already typed in.

It’s a great feature to have on your phone and even better you can do it without jailbreaking your handset!

So here’s how to enable the ‘Autocorrect Keyboard Bar’

Plug your iPhone in and launch iTunes

Backup your device

Download iBackupBot from here Windows/Mac [Official Website], install it and launch it.

On iBackupBot select your latest backup (the one you did minutes ago) and load it up.

Go to Library, then Preferences then com.apple.keyboard.plist and open the file

Click cancel after opening the file if your copy of iBackupBot is unregistered (it more than likely isn’t)

Add this code to the file: <key>KeyboardAutocorrectionLists</key><string><YES</string>

Save the file

Restore your modified backup by clicking Restore

Your handset will now restart and the next time you go to send a message you’ll have an Android style autocorrect keyboard just waiting to be used – it’ll look a bit like this:

This trick has been proven to work on the iPhone 4S, but hasn’t been tested on an iPad yet – it’s be great to hear if it does work on them!

As we reported a couple of weeks back, Siri can perform one basic Jailbreak function, respringing. Well today we bring you news of another tip courtesy of @jasonpensill via Twitter.

Firstly, MyGreatiPhone will not be held responsible for any damage you cause to your iPhone as a result of trying the following.

This only works on the iPhone as you will need to dial a special number. To enable numerical signal bars do the following;

Open the phone app and dial the following – *3001#12345#*

Hit the Call button

You will be taken to Field Test Mode

Tap the signal bars until you see them change to a numeric value

Hold the power button until “Slide to Shutdown” appears

Hold the home button until you are taken back to the homescreen

That’s it! You should now be able to tap to change your signal bars whenever you feel like it. We have not explored any other settings inside the field test menu and we suggest that you do the same unless you are sure you know what you are doing.

Have a tip? We would love to here it.

In a tweet this morning from iPhone hacker @pod2g, he announced that he has found a bug that allows for an untethered Jailbreak for iOS 5.

Hey jailbreaking friends, I’ve found a bug that can untether iOS 5. Don’t expect a release soon, but I’m gonna work hard in it

He has not yet said if this Jailbreak is for iPad 2 and the iPhone 4S or just for older devices.

Please as @pod2g says, there will not be a release soon, so don’t bother him for an ETA!

Recently iH8sn0w updated his very popular jailbreak tool called Sn0wbreeze to version 2.8 beta 9. In this update it now supports iOS 5.0.1 beta 1 (9A402) and also fixes the iBooks sandbox and location services issue with the iPhone 3GS.

This update blocks the Developer UDID and the beta timer so this means that you can have iOS 5.0.1 beta 1 on your device without the need to be a registered developer to install it.

Here is the change log for Sn0wbreeze v2.8b9:

Supports iOS 5.0 (9A334)/5.0.1-b1 (9A402)

Fixed iBooks sandbox crashing issues.

Fixed location services issues with iPhone 3GS

Re-added iPad baseband install option to iPhone 3GS.

Removes UDID requirement/beta timer in 5.0.1.

Tethered devices are booted via iBooty which is extracted to the Desktop after running Sn0wBreeze

This jailbreak is still a tethered jailbreak for all devices but if you have an iPhone 3GS old bootrom then it is untethered. For all of you tethered users, install the semitether jailbreak app by BigBoss (more info here, and make sure you read it before you download) and this is not for the iPhone 4S or the iPad 2 so keep away.

You can download Sn0wbreeze v2.8 beta 9 from the following link http://mygre.at/h4 and don’t forget that this is a Windows program and not for Mac.

Happy Jailnreaking!

You updated to iOS5.0.1 on your iDevice but miss the jailbreak (if you where running a jailbreak) well, recently the Dev-Team updated its famous jailbreaking Tool redsnow to version 0.9.9 beta 8, this update brings along compatibility with the just released to Developers iOS 5.0.1 beta 1.

Also, if your an unlocker who owns an iPhone 3GS or iPhone 4 and want to update while preserving your baseband, the Mac version (Not windows for now) will allow you to do it, but as the site say that ultrasn0w doesn’t get updated for betas like this, and will not be updated until iOS 5.0.1 comes out.

Redsn0w version 0.9.9b8 will natively recognize the 5.0.1 beta that Apple let developers start testing this week (so you don’t have to play the “point at 5.0 IPSW” trick). Because the IPSW isn’t public, you’ll still need to provide it once to redsn0w (at which point it will cache all the important pieces so you don’t need to select it again).

For those 3GS and i4 users who preserve their baseband, the Mac version can also produce the NO_BB_* custom IPSWs for 5.0.1. (But please note that ultrasn0w doesn’t get updated for betas like this.)

This jailbreak is still a tethered but if you have an iPhone 3GS old bootrom, or the you installed the semitether jailbreak app, it will not work with the iPhone 4S and the iPad 2.

You can download redsn0w for windows and Mac at the following links below:

We’ve all seen the footage of Siri running perfectly on the iPhone 4 and iPod Touch, but it seems that at the moment the procedure used to port Siri won’t be released. There’s a couple of reasons for this, as highlighted by the guys at Chpwn Blog:

The first reason is down to our old friend Mr Copyright. Copyright laws state that just because a bit of data is available quite freely on the internet, it doesn’t mean that you have the right to distribute it, without the correct licence. So this means that all the files, images and codes associated with Siri cannot legally be freely shared. The only way you can legally install Siri is on an iPhone 4S which already has the programme, so is a little redundant. The guys at Chpwn Blog explain the copyright issues in more detail:

In the context of Siri, this means that the resource files, images, and code that makes up Siri cannot be freely shared. These frameworks and plugins that work together to build Siri are not included on other iOS builds besides the ones running on the iPhone 4S. Therefore, these files must be copied from a running iPhone 4S, or from the iPhone 4S’s firmware (.ipsw) file. The first method requires you to own an iPhone 4S to copy the files from, so it is not useful for most people: if you already own an iPhone 4S, you already have Siri. The issue with the second method is more technical: the firmware files are distributed encrypted, and we do not yet have the decryption key to access the Siri files inside of the iPhone 4S firmware file.

The second reason why Siri isn’t currently available on the iPhone 4 is down to jailbreaking. To successfully port Siri to an iPhone 4 you need a jailbroken iPhone 4S to access all the information and files of Siri. As we all know the jailbreak for iPhone 4s isn’t publicly available yet (and we’re not too sure when it will be), so being able to find the information needed is pretty tough.

However, on the plus side it’s highly likely that Siri will be available to port to the iPhone 4 once a jailbreak for the 4S is publicly available and any copyright issues are sorted. For now we can just wet our appetites with a video of Siri in all it’s glory on the iPod Touch.

Terminal was first introduced on the Mac platform and in fact, it has been since Mac OSX was announced. Terminal allows you to type commands in to your computer to perform command-line tasks, for example changing permissions for a specific file quickly. That may sound very strange, but it’s actually really, really nice and easy once you get used to it. Thanks to Cydia it came over to the Mobile platform (for commands you need to look it up).

Mobile Terminal was very, very useful if your Cydia was not working but unfortunately, the version that is still in Cydia has gone without an update for quite some time now, rendering it unusable on recent iOS firmwares.

To enable it and complete the steps below you will need to be jailbroken and it also helps if you have iFile as well.

Follow the steps below (credit goes to iDownloadblog.com for breaking the story)

How to Install Mobile Terminal on iOS 5

Step 1: Verify that you have CoreUtilities installed in Cydia. If not, you will receive a dependency error when trying to install Mobile Terminal. To verify, open Cydia and tap the Manage tab. In the upper left-hand corner tap the Settings button. Select Hacker Mode and tap done. Tap the Search tab, and search for “coreutils”. You should see Core Utilities and Core Utilities (/bin). You want to make sure that the first Core Utilities is installed on your device (not the bin, as that should already be installed upon initial Cydia installation).

Step 2: Open Mobile Safari and download the Mobile Terminal.deb file from the following Google Code repository. Then choose open with iFile in the upper right-hand corner. You must have iFile installed.

Step 3: Once iFile loads, a pop up menu will appear. Select “Installer” from the menu and it will install Mobile Terminal.

Step 4: Respring or Reboot, and you should have a working Mobile Terminal for iOS 5 (it should also work on iOS 4 as well).

Mobile Terminal is good to use for tons of things. You can even respring your device directly from a terminal if you wish by typing: killall SpringBoard

I hope this help you. MyGreatiPhone takes no responsibility for any issues caused by performing the steps above as you do this at your own risk.

Please leave your comments below and share it with your friends.

Just moments ago, on Twitter, MuscleNerd of the iPhone Dev-Team revealed that they already have a preliminary jailbreak for the new iPhone 4s.

VERY preliminary 4S JB: http://t.co/5lgqpLHa http://t.co/2WOJ50zS (Huge missing pieces prevent public release. LOTS of work left)

No mention of wether it will be tethered or untethered and obviously no mention yet as to which exploit it is using. As stated it needs a LOT more work before it is ready for the masses.

The images below are the ones posted by MuscleNerd.

Obviously it will be finished and publicly released when it is ready so please do NOT pester the Dev-Team, it won’t happen any quicker if you do.

**UPDATE**

MuscleNerd just posted a video of his iPad 2 jailbroken on iOS 5.

If you’re jailbreaken on an iOS5 iDevice, you may have been faced with some problems with the Apple iBooks app. This is a known issue, and there is no need to panic, but since the Steve Jobs biography was released recently, this is the first time that many iOS users had even attempted to use iBooks, and until this point, they had not even been aware that there was anything wrong with it.

Recently a well-known jailbreak developer, @iH8sn0w, who is famous for such tools as sn0wbreeze, iREB, iFaith and other similar tools, has been hard at work to fix this problem with iBooks. He has posted a video showing iBooks on a jailbroken iPod Touch running iOS 5, but he said that this fix will not be released for public since it’s not yet stable.

As you can see below, the iBooks opens normally without any crashes.

Click here to view the embedded video.

To be able to follow the steps below, your device must be jailbroken on iOS 5 and have the iFile application from Cydia installed on your iDevice. It is a Paid tweak but its worth it.

Follow the steps below (credit goes to iDownloadblog.com for breaking the story)

Step 1: Uninstall iBooks, and then reinstall iBooks from the App Store. Do not open the app.

Step 2: Open iFile, and copy iBooks.app from /var/mobile/Applications/(iBook’s folder)/ to /Applications. You can use SBSettings, or just go through each folder to identify the correct iBooks folder. If you don’t have a lot of App Store apps, this should be simple.

Step 3: Tap on /Applications/iBooks.app/Info.plist and select property list editor. Tap CFBundleIdentifier and change com.apple.iBooks to com.apple.iBooksFix

Step 4: Exit iFile and Respring.

Step 5: Delete the original iBooks app (rounded corners) and keep the square iBooks app.

Step 6: Since you can’t use the iBookstore on device, and you can’t sync with iTunes, upload your .epub files using the methods outlined on the video, dropbox, etc. From there you can open them using iBooks where you will be able to read them.

Please note that there might be some problems with ibooks but at lest its something.

theys are some of the problems:

The iBooks icon will not be rounded rectangle. Instead, it will be a circle icon. Howoever, it can be fixed by correcting the png files

You won’t be able to sync iBooks store with iTunes and no purchases on the device.

Please let us no how it works.

Today the Dev-Team accounnced a huge update to their Redsn0w Tool (Redsn0w 0.9.9 beta 7), before this update was released it took around about 210 seconds, this is due to the fact that RedSn0w spent a lot of time “stashing” applications on your device.

Now after the feedback on reddit the Dev-Team decided something about the length of time for the Jailbreak to work because now it takes around about 80 seconds (60% faster) to do the whole process (WOW).

“After some feedback on reddit, we’ve decided to make the initial jailbreak as quick as possible by no longer “stashing” the applications by default during the redsn0w run. This reduces the time to actually perform the jailbreak from 210 seconds to 80 seconds (60 percent!). However, you make up for much of that the first time you launch Cydia, which will then want to stash the applications. You can choose whether you want redsn0w or Cydia to stash in the Preferences pane.”

Prior to 1973, if somebody was to describe a mobile telephone, they would most likely talk about something installed in cars or other vehicles. In 1973 Dr. Martin Cooper made the first analogue mobile phone call using a heavy prototype model. The image to the left shows Cooper reenacting this in 2007.

Most of you will immediately recognise this as the first thing that comes to mind when you think about “the first mobile phone”. These things were HUGE, but they worked. The general idea back then was to make mobile phones smaller. This brings us to the next generation, which most of you will again feel some nostalgia for.

Back in the 90′s Nokia was famous for their smaller mobile phones, I myself owned one of these babies, and those who owned one were considered cool (yes, COOL!).

A few years later Nokia went further by producing even smaller units like the 2 below.

Mobile phones continued to get smaller after the millennium, with some companies even going as far as this one below.

Now obviously this is not a practical size for a mobile phone at all. It was after the year 2000 that we started to see smart phones enter the market. To begin with they were pretty crude combining PDA functions with telephone functions. In 2007 we had the likes of the LG Viewty leading the way which featured a 3″ full capacitive touch screen display and a decent camera. So you can see phones were starting to get bigger again.

In June 2007 at their WWDC event, Apple announced their first offering, the iPhone, which paved the way and set the bar higher than ever. With a 3.5″ multi-touch display, the world went mad for it.

Initially the iPhone met with criticism due to its inability to install 3rd party native applications and some even said it couldn’t be considered as a smartphone, but all this changed with the introduction of the iPhone 3G and the AppStore in July 2008. The smartphone world exploded, with many manufacturers adopting a similar model. Fast forward to 2011 and we have literally hundreds of smartphones, some now sporting up to 4.5″ screens, wait, what happened to making things smaller?

The mobile phones of today are now faster, thinner and lighter than ever, but some of them are huge! In a complete reversal of design the evolution of the smartphone goes a little something like this (not completely to scale but you get the idea)

I think that some of todays smartphones have gone a bit far, I mean if it doesn’t fit comfortably in your hand then what’s the point? What do you think? Is bigger better? Let us know below.

When Apple releases a firmware, big or small, developers alike, whether it is a AppStore developer or a Cydia developer, need to update their releases to bring them up-to-date and make them compatible with the current firmware. If they don’t, then the iDevices they are installed on may not work properly, and may cause you to require a restore to fix the problems. Well, a well known Cydia developer named @chpwn started updating all of his jailbreaking tweaks from Cydia in order to make them all compatible with iOS 5.

Here’s some info for you if you’re having any issues or problems from using the tweaks released by @chpwn:

Feel free to send me a support email from Cydia if you have any issues or questions, for paid products. I try and respond within a few hours if I’m not sleeping.

Here’s a list of @chpwn’s tweaks, and updates which tell you which are compatible or not compatible with iOS5, as well as their current status:

No Bookmarks: Full iOS 5 support.
Five Icon Switcher: Full iOS 5 support.
Full WebClips: Full iOS 5 support.
Internalizer: Full iOS 5 support.
No Folder Badges: Full iOS 5 support.

I may or may not be updating this but @chpwn himself is updating it day by back here.

At the top is just @chpwn’s tweaks, but I have also found a full list of compatible Cydia tweaks from here, you can also edit the list via Google Docs, if necessary.

The Dev-Team have just pushed out another new update for their famous Jailbreaking Tool – Redsn0w 0.9.9 beta 6 is a TETHERED Jailbreak For iOS5, apart from the iPhone 3GS old bootrom devices. this new version brings Windows compatibility as the last version was Mac only. It also fixes the network crash that iPhone 3GS owners with the 06.15.00 baseband were suffering from when using Location Services.

From the Dev Team blog:

For iPhone3GS owners with the 06.15 baseband, this redsn0w eliminates the network crash you saw when using Location Services in iOS5 (in fact, you don’t even need to disable Location Services anymore during the initial setup). The cosmetic fix is to the visual countdown you see when going into DFU mode.

It’s okay to re-run this redsn0w over an existing device jailbroken at iOS5. Just choose “Jailbreak” again and de-select Cydia (in other words, all the checkboxes will be unchecked). If you are lucky enough to have an old-bootrom iPhone3GS, please pre-select the IPSW first (redsn0w can’t yet auto-detect the FW version of your old-bootrom 3GS if it’s already been jailbroken).

You can download the new Redsn0w here: (Click on the Following system you have)

Bad news for jailbreakers, it seems that once Apple start pushing out iOS 5 updates downgrading firmware will be pretty impossible. It’s all part of Apple’s battle against jailbreaking, as every time Apple release a patch or upgrade, jailbreakers always seem to find a way to exploit it.

According to sources, Apple have changed the way that they authenticate software restores, meaning saved SHSH blobs won’t help you to downgrade your firmware . This means that if you accidentally upgrade your iOS 5 software there’s no way of going back and re-jailbreaking!

The guys at Dev Team go into more detail

“Starting with iOS 5 beta, the role of the “APTicket” is changing — it’s being used much like the “BBTicket” has always been used. The LLB and iBoot states of the boot sequence are being refined to depend on the authenticity of the APTicket, which is uniquely generated at each and every restore (in other words, it doesn’t depend merely on your ECID and firmware version…it changes every time you restore, based partly on a random number). This APTicket authentication will happen at every boot, not just at restore time. Because only Apple has the crypto keys to properly sign the per-restore APTicket, replayed APTickets are useless.”

Right now there’s no need to panic though as it’s likely to be a few weeks before Apple release a new update, but this is definitely something to bear in mind for when an upgrade does come out. It is believed that non iPhone 4S users with saved SHSH blobs should be able to downgrade to iOS 4 though but I wouldn’t pin all your hopes on that in case it doesn’t work.

However, if you are desperate to jailbreak iOS 5 it’s been reported that it is eligible for a tethered jailbreak, which just means that you have to re-jailbreak every time you reboot your phone – so for now not all hope is lost

Today Apple released the final public version of iTunes 10.5, and along side that Apple should roll out iCloud tomorrow.

iOS5 will also roll out tomorrow (Wednesday the 12th of October) and will be available for these devices – iPad, iPad 2, iPhone 3Gs, iPhone 4 (GSM/CDMA), iPod Touch (3rd/4th gen), and of course the iPhone 4S will ship with it.

What’s new in iTunes 10.5?

• iTunes in the Cloud. iTunes now stores your music and TV purchases in iCloud and makes them available on your devices anywhere, any time, at no additional cost.
• Automatic Downloads. Purchase music from any device or computer and automatically download a copy to your Mac and iOS devices.
• Download Previous Purchases. Download your past music, TV, app, and book purchases again, at no additional cost. Previous purchases may be unavailable if they are no longer on the iTunes Store.
• Sync with your iPhone, iPad, or iPod touch with iOS 5.
• Wi-Fi Syncing. Automatically sync your iPhone, iPad, or iPod touch with iTunes any time they’re both on the same Wi-Fi network.

iTunes 10.5 is also safe for jailbreakers to use.

I do, that was the first tweak/mod I ever installed on my iDevice, in I have been jailbreaking my devices since firmware 2.2.1.

The famous jailbreak mod SBSettings by BigBoss now Supports iOS5, although it is still classed as beta and intended for developers. One of the big features for me is that it now supports Notification Center, one of the biggest features in iOS5.

IOS5 will be available to the public this Wednesday the 12th of October, if you haven’t checked out SBSettings before then you are missing out.

This is what the developer said;

I have a lot of big changes coming to SBSettings for iOS5. For those of you on iOS5 already that want to test it, I should be releasing daily beta updates for it.

Some of the big features in SBSettings;

● Notification center integration
● Your choice of using the old style window or the notification center. Or both.
● You choose which toggles to appear in notification and window sections.
● Current sbsettings toggles should be supported. Current themes should work in notification area as well.
● You get to choose what will show up in notification section.

To get the Beta iOS 5 version of SBSettings add the following repo to Cydia: http://thebigboss.org/ios5beta

Like I said this is really for developers but if you want to try it go ahead but if your experience issues don’t blame the developer or US.

What do you think? Please leave a comment below. Enjoy!

Siri is a new voice recognition feature which is built into iOS 5 and the iPhone 4S. Siri’s features, which offer users the ability to almost have a conversation with your device, will be exclusive to Apple’s iPhone 4S, with all current hardware left out in the cold.

Already, hacker iH8Snow is already working on porting Siri to the iPhone 4 as the Siri code is built in to iOS5. So in theory, it shouldn’t be that difficulty.Well, actually, it is. In a conversation with ModMyI, iH8Snow said;

It’s definitely not just a plist value that you have to change in order to get Siri. Thus far, it has required a lot of searching and digging. After sending all the known information to John, I’m beginning to find that it is much harder than expected. We’re using an iPod touch 4G now but our aim is to port it to all devices that Apple won’t support. At this point, we’re unsure of whether Siri requires certain hardware components or not. At this point, we can’t say but are still trying. After buying the iPhone 4S myself, I will be looking to see if there are any new files that are not available on the current iOS 5 version. This might be our stopping point.

Image above is where he has got to so far, which I would say is already quite positive. The feature is there and comes up, just it’s being told it’s not available.

Hopefully, when iPhone 4S is released, iH8Sn0w (and others) are able to look deep into how it is integrated and get this sorted! Lets be honest, it’s a bit unfair that the iPhone 4 is left out.

Battery life is something which we all get a little stressy about. One minute you’ve got 70% left and the next minute you look you’re down to 10% – cue running around looking for a charger. Now there’s two possible reasons for this battery loss, either a) you really have used your phone an awful lot or b) you’ve been pranked with FakePercent.

FakePercent is a pretty cool jailbreak tweak which you can use to fool your friends into thinking they either have no battery life left when they have loads left; or that they have 100% battery left when in fact they’re in the red. It’s a funny prank but it can only be done on jailbroken iPhones, so there’s a chance your friend (victim) might be smart enough to clock on straight away.

There’s a video below showing FakePercent in action and if you want to download it, it’s available on Cydia’s BigBoss repo.
