Firstly I’d like to start by thanking Mobile Fun for sending me the SmartTime Bluetooth watch for me to review.

When I first saw this watch I didn’t know whether it would really be a great benefit but after reading some of the plus points one thing stood out to me. I’m quite a forgetful person and quite often I leave the house thinking I’ve forgotten something only to realise later that I’ve left my phone behind. I’ve also done this on wild nights out as well and I’ve had to replace a fair few phones, so after reading that this watch comes with a vibrating alert which lets you know when you get 5 metres away from your phone I thought “fantastic”.

After receiving it and trying it out for a few days though the other features do, actually, come in quite useful. The primary function is that if you get a phone call it will vibrate on your wrist and there is an LCD display which shows you the name and number of the person calling you so you don’t need to keep checking your phone to see if you want to take the call or not. A quick glance at your watch is all it takes.

I know it’s not really a great deal of effort to check your phone’s screen, but the simplicity of just checking your wrist is a nice feature to have, and you can also pretend that you’re James Bond at the same time….awesome! The vibrating alert that it gives out is powerful enough to make you take notice as well, so if you’re dancing in a loud night club you won’t miss a call from your friends asking where you are.

On to the design of the watch, and this is where my main gripe is, being an avid fan of retro clothing (yes I’m an indie boy) the watches futuristic design doesn’t really suit any attire which I decide to throw on. This won’t affect everyone as most will find the futuristic look enticing but for me a simple, old-fashioned watch with this feature would’ve made me look and think “I’ve got to have one of those”. The design is similar to a bangle and is open at one end to make it easier to slip on and the interior rubber grips give it a comfortable feel as well so you won’t keep adjusting it.

This is also a strong plus point for me, again not for everyone, as I have an allergy to certain types of metal so I don’t have to worry about breaking out into a rash which looks rather unsightly so if you’re suffering from a similar allergy to me then you can rest assured that you can wear this in comfort.

To tell the time you need to simply press one of the buttons on the side of the watch and it brings up a digital clock displaying the time in 24 hour format. After a few seconds the time will disappear and it goes back to looking like another wrist band what you’re wearing so it is quite discrete as well (although at roughly 30mm’s wide it’s a rather large wrist band).

To get it to work is relatively simple as well. When you first get the watch it will need charging up, this took me about 30 minutes to give it a charge so it could turn on but to fully charge the battery it can take up to a rather lengthy 3 hours but from this you’ll easily get a day and a half to 2 days of use. The packaging quotes 72 hours of standby time, but once it’s paired and you’re getting a fair few phone calls, you will notice that the battery life will start to drain quicker.

To pair it to your phone you have to hold down the second of the two buttons on the side for around 5 seconds where the display will then show “pairing” and then find it on your phone and enter the password so it’s all pretty simple and easy to set up, it’s just the initial charging that takes the time.

All in all I think the SmartTime is a good idea but not really breath-taking and you can live without one, but for £34.95 I’ve seen watches that are a lot more expensive and they do far less.

Again I’d like to thank Mobile Fun for sending me the SmartTime to sample and review and I’d also like to point out that they do sell a wide range of other accessories, including a nice range of mobile phone covers.

Im a big fan of wireless bluetooth headphones as I hate that lead running down my body while walking to work listening to my music / audiobook. So when Jabra said that they would said be over the Bluetooth Jabra Sport headphones I was delighted to give them a try.

The Sports (which is their name for short) are really light weight at only 24grams. Inside the packaging you get a wall charger, USB charging lead and 3 different style ear tips.

Pairing the Sports is simple as the units feature Bluetooth 3.0 technology, which means that I didn’t need to input an passcode into my iPhone 4S for them to work. The Sports have some good range to them also with them able to stream music upto 33 feet away.

The product isn’t just a set of Bluetooth headphones though, it offers the users the ability to listen to FM radio also.

The Sports take about 2 hours to fully charge, but then offer decent battery life with upto 4 days standby time, 3 hours music playback and 4.5 hours talk time. It’s the mic on the Sports that gained my most attention though. The mic is positioned just by the ear tip and when I first noticed this I thought that the Sports would not be very good at picking up my voice, but I was surprised when Siri heard everything I said perfectly. While making and receiving calls people on the other end also said that they could hear my load and clear.

As for audio quality while you are never going to get the very best quality from Bluetooth streaming, the Sports did very well. Audiobooks sounded great and so did music, with the Sports having great overall sound.

Check out the vid review below..

Click here to view the embedded video.

The Sports are designed with sports in mind ( I bet you guessed that front he name though) and I have to say that they work really well in this environment. While going out running they sat on my ears perfectly. Once you have picked the right ear tips for you the units are really comfortable. The Sports also work with the Endomondo app, which gives you feedback on how well you are doing your chosen sport. They have been designed to work in all weather conditions and are equipped with a military grade body to protect from dust, rain and shock.

Overall the Jabra Sport headphones are one of the best Stereo Bluetooth headphones that I have used, they offer great comfort and super audio quality both in your ears and to the person on the other end of the call.

The Jabra Sport headphones retail for £99 from the Jabra website.

The Jabra Stone2 has to be one of the best looking Bluetooth headsets there are. The device is really small but offers loads of great features.

The unit has only 1 physical button that is used to answer and end calls, manually turn the device on and off and also enable voice dialling. However you don’t have to touch this button at all (other than for voice dialling) as the Stone2 incorporates voice technology, allowing you to to answer and reject calls with voice commands such as ‘Answer’ and “Ignore”

The Stone2 holds and impressive 10 hours worth of charge, 8 hours in the Stone and 2 hours in the earpiece. Every time the earpiece if docked into the stone, it turns itself off and beings charging. Removing the earpiece from the stone automatically turns the Stone2 on and pairs it with your device.

The Stone2 has a another special little feature up its sleeve namely the volume controls. To turn the volume up or down on the Stone2 simply swipe your finger up or down on the unit.

Comfort wise the Stone2 is excellent and the way it wraps around the ear provides extra security that its not going to fall off.

The Stone2 comes with a USB charge lead and extra eartips. The unit retails for £99 but is one of the best Bluetooth headsets that I have used.

A couple of weeks ago we told you about IconProject which allowed you to create settings toggles and create shortcuts on your homescreen. Well now there are two more ways of doing this which are free. These methods aren’t quite as polished and may not have all of the customisation options but the end result is the same.

The first way is to use Jeff Broderick’s icons – He’s created 11 beautiful and sleek icons for some of the most used features of our iPhones like; Bluetooth, Airplane mode, Wi-Fi, Brightness and a few others. To access these icons all you need is your iPhone and it’s really simple.

All you have to do is visit http://brdrck.me/settings/ on your phone, tap on the settings shortcut you want to save and it adds them to your home screen. Unlike IconProject, this method uses profiles to create webclips and is much simpler to do. It’s rumoured that Jeff has more icons in the works as he’s had over 250,000 hits in under 24 hours!

Here’s what Jeff’s icons look like:

The second way to get new icons on your iPhone is through using Mobile Config’s method. This one has 40 icons to choose from as it includes icons for FaceTime, Keyboard, Ringtone, Wallpaper and many other features which you’ve probably never thought about getting an icon for before. You have two options with Mobile Config, you can either download all 40 or you individually download the icons you’d like.

To install the Mobile Config files you have to be a bit patient as it takes quite a while to download all of them, but it’s very simple to do – you just select which file you wish to download and that’s it! Links to the downloads can be found here.

It’d be great to hear which icon packs you guys prefer or if you’ve found any more that we’ve missed!

On screen keyboard such as those that the iPad has are not for everybody, some people don’t like not having and feedback on what key they have pressed other just feel its not for them, so when MobileFun offered to send me the Keycase iPad Folio Delux with Bluetooth Keyboard (we’re going to call it the Keycase for short) I thought it was worth a review.

On opening the product you realise that the Keycase is quite a large are and you can instantly see that it will add some bulk to your iPad, this may bother some people, but its on closure inspection and on use that you forget about the size of the case.

The product comes with the case itself and a USB charging lead (and a set of instructions). Pairing the Keycase with the iPad was easy just a press of the bluetooth button on the keyboard and then into the bluetooth setting on the iPad, enter a pin and your done.

The keys on the Keycase are made of a soft silicone material and comes in a one piece design meaning that there are no gabs between the keys. This is great as it makes the keyboard dust and spill resistant.

The keyboard offers main iPad specific buttons such as a Home button to take you back to the Springboard and a Spotlight button to take you to the search page. The Keycase also gives the user full media buttons so you can play, skip and rewind your music without having to go into the iPod app. Also on the keyboard are volume buttons and a mute button.

The Keycase offers 45 hours of use off one single charge but also has a built in auto sleep mode that puts the Keycase to sleep if not in use for 10 minutes – this feature really helps as it stretches the battery length.

The Keycase allows the user to access all the buttons and ports on the iPad while in the case. When the Keycase is closed it is held together with magentas to offer extra protect and to stop your iPad slipping out.

The case itself is made from a plastic material and comes in a black colour, now this may not sound to exciting but this helps keep the Keycase looking professional.

The keyboard in the Keycase is easy to use and really quite. I can defiantly type quicker on it than on the the on-screen keyboard.

This case is really good if you want to use your iPad as more as a netbook. Even though it adds bulk to the iPad its easily fits into a bag. The Keycase costs £39.95 and I think its definitely worth. If a bluetooth keyboard is one the iPad Accessories that you need then make sure you pick up the Keycase.

I have tested a lot of bluetooth accessories out while writing for MyGreatiPhone but none of them had the visual impact that the Speaky from Bluetrek has.

The Speaky is not the usual bluetooth car kit that attaches the sun visor. The Speaky sits on your dash board an well looks nothing like a bluetooth kit at all.

The unit comes in 2 different colours black and pink. I like that it comes in these colours as this unit would then appeals to female market also. Within the packaging you get the Speaky itself, velcro stick pad, a USB charging lead and a car charging unit.

The Speaky comes in a funky bubble person shape, giving it an appeal to the younger market, a place where bluetooth accessories need to be aimed at more with more and more young drivers using their phones whilst driving.

The Speaky is easy to use and pairing was simple. Once installed in your car all that you need to do is turn the unit on and press the multifunction button in the units stomach. This puts the Speaky into pairing mode. Pairing the unit with my iPhone 4s was easy, there was no need to input a code as it paired with the iPhone itself. Along the pairing procedure the Speaky gives you voice instructions which makes the pairing even easier as your not trying to read the manual at the same time.

The 2 arms on the Speaky control the volume with the left arm giving volume up and the right arm doing volume down. Pressing the stomach of the Speaky will answer incoming calls and end a call when you have finished with it.

Pressing the left and right arm together will allow you to use your phone’s voice controls if they support it.

A great thing about the Speaky is that you have the ability to leave the unit one all the time. You may think that you would be continually charging the unit if you left it on all the time but Bluetrek added a sensor to the Speaky so that when a door is opened on the car the Speaky will wake up, if the unit loses a bluetooth connection for more than 5 minutes it will go to sleep.

The Speaky has a really good speaker in it, I have used it for around 3 weeks now and have no problems hearing a caller over the sound of the engine, music or even while the window is open.

The same can be said for the Mic on the Speaky, while using Siri to send messages on the iPhone 4S; Siri managed to pick up everything. Callers on the other end of the phone while using the Speaky said that they could hear me clearly also.

The Speaky is a great size also measuring 77 x 68 x 56mm so it can happy sit on your dash without getting in the way. The unit gives 6 hours worth of talk time and an impressive 38 days worth of standby time. In fact I have not charged the unit once since I received it.

The Speaky costs $69.99, which I thing is a god price for a unit this fun and user friendly.

One addition that Apple has been fairly quiet about in the new iPhone 4S, is the handset’s support for Bluetooth 4.0. In fact, as a number of sites have already pointed out, the iPhone 4S is the first smartphone to support the new technology!

Bluetooth 4.0 has some significant advantages over previous versions, but its most important feature has to be its low power consumption which, according to ITProPortal, uses around half of the power of previous Bluetooth profiles.

Although there aren’t yet many accessories available to take advantage of Bluetooth 4.0, it still opens the door for all kinds of possibilities. Headsets and other Bluetooth accessories are currently limited by their excessive battery drain.

Bluetooth 4.0 could also be a way of payment. If Apple wanted to, they could start a whole new NFC revolution. But with Bluetooth, which would actually work better IMO.

The Bluetrek Carbon Bleutooth Headset has to be one of the most stylish Bluetooth headsets their is out there.

With the unit being the worlds first real Carbon Fibre bluetooth headset its lightweight and has a really stylish look to it.

Along with the unit itself you get a hard carry case, 4 earplugs, an ear clip, pen clip and micro USB charger.

The unit itself only weighs 5.9g which is ultra light, and this helps with the comfort factor for when the user wears the device. The 4 sizes of earbuds that come with the device allow you create a prefect fit and if you don’t feel like the unit is totally secure the added ear clip will make sure that the unit doesn’t move while you wear it.

After finding out which earbud is right for you and wearing the unit for a few minutes you will totally feel like the Bluetrek Carbon is not even being worn.

The device supports Bluetooth 3.0 which allows for super fast pairing with either your phone or computer. Believe me when I say it is super fast, once you have paired the device for the first time which only takes a few minutes if that, as soon as the unit is turned on and in range of your phone then its paired, it really is that instant.

The BlueTrek Carbon supports voice activation alerts in 3 different lanuages (English, Spanish and Mandarin) to tell you if the device is on, paired, receiving or making a call and the battery status.

Bluetrek say that the Carbon is good for up to 4.5 hours talk time and up to 5 days Standby time, which I have to agree with, as I have only charged the unit once in the last 2 weeks.

The hard case that comes with the device is not my favourite however, its looks to be more on the feminine, which for women is great to keep the Carbon in the handbags. Its nice however that Bluetrek have included a small pen clip which slides onto the shaft of the Carbon allowing you to keep the unit safe in a pocket. Maybe Bluetrek supplied both the hard case and pen clip to please both men and women.

The unit has good noise cancellation features built in and this was proved when using the unit as I could both hear people clearly and they could not tell that I was using the unit.

The main button of the Carbon is very similar to home button of the iPhone. This button once pressed will answer, reject, end calls but also if double tapped will do last number redialing and if held for 2 seconds will initiate the voice dialling feature of the iPhone.

The BlueTrek Carbon is defiantly for the high end business user. The unit does no fancy tricks other than looking really, really good. There is no A2DP music streaming service included in the Carbon and this may be the only problem for some users.

My final thoughts for the BlueTrek Carbon Bluetooth Headset are that its the most stylish piece of headset that I have ever used. Its comfortable and easy to use and with a price tag of just $69.99 its should defiantly be only your Christmas list if your in need of a Bluetooth Headset.

Well now we have the answer to this problem and a small price.

The Bluetrek SurfaceSound Compact Bluetooth Car Kit has been sent to us for review from MobileFun.co.uk.

The Bluetrek SurfaceSound retails from MobileFun for just £18.95 which I think is a great price to pay for such a excellent product (also for less than 20 quid you may save yourself a fine, points or even a serious accident)

I’ve been using the Bluetrek SurfaceSound for just about 2 weeks now and honestly I wouldn’t change it for the world. Its easy to use, easy to pair and just works.

The Bluetrek SurfaceSound works with any Bluetooth enabled phone and even with Apples Bluetooth crippling it worked magically with my iPhone 4.

The device is only 6mm thick so when attached to your sun visor by the supplied clip you it will not get in the way. A great feature about this Bluetooth speaker is the way that it turns on, all that you need to do is pull down the mic arm and there you go the device is on and working.

Voice dialling and last number dialling are easy on the Bluetrek SurfaceSound, to initiate Voice dialling you just press the call button and away you go, for last number dialling just press and hold the call button.

The Bluetrek SurfaceSound gives you 24 hours worth of talk time and up to 30 days stand time.

The 2 watt speaker in the Bluetrek SurfaceSound provides great sound and even with my music up loud I was still able to hear people on the other end of the phone loud and clear. So what about people hearing me, well the SurfaceSound has 2 mics built into it. These pic up sound really well, in fact most people I spoke to didn’t even know that I was using the Bluetrek SurfaceSound when calling them.

So my final thoughts on the Bluetrek SurfaceSound Compact Bluetooth Car Kit are that for £18.95 this is a excellent car kit and I see no reason why people would spend a lot more than that on a device that does the same.

MobileFun don’t just supply products for the iPhone, they deal with a whole range of stuff from the HTC Sensation accessories to Amazon Kindle stuff.

Check out our video review of the Bluetrek SurfaceSound Compact Bluetooth Car Kit below..

After a long wait Celeste is finally available. Celeste is a fully native Bluetooth client for all iDevices running 4.2 or higher. Unlike previous Bluetooth applications, Celeste has no icon or any settings to configure, which is what makes it so native.

Celeste uses a number of ways to send files. The first is the use of Action Menu (where you usually see the copy/paste menu). Basically if you press and hold on a song in your iPod library, you will see the Action Menu appear, complete with a new send button.

In the photos app you will now see a new addition to the share menu, “Send via Bluetooth”.

In the Contacts application, again you will find a new addition to the share menu

So you can see that Celeste is truly native. It has been designed to work with almost all mobile phones and computers, which is why we saw such a lengthy beta testing period. Once you select one of these options you will be presented with a device selection popup where you can choose where you want to send the file.

Choose the device that you wish to interact with and the file transfer will start. It is important to note that I had to allow “Bluetooth Sharing” as well as “File sharing” from the Bluetooth settings on my MacBook Pro in order for it to work flawlessly.

If you have your Bluetooth set to password verification for each transfer then you will see this screen on both devices

Receiving is very simple, you will be prompted as to whether you would like to accept or reject the file transfer

You will start receiving the file as soon as you hit the “Accept” button

Celeste also uses a plug-in called Gremlin. Gremlin allows for music and video to be imported directly into the iPod app. This is done automatically if you were wondering how to do it. The process is signified by a small “G” icon in the status bar. When it disappears, your file has been imported.

We should also see an update to the iFile application very soon which will have full integration with Celeste, allowing you to send any file to any device, and also import downloaded songs/videos into the iPod app. We will do an updated review when the time comes.

Celeste is available from the ModMyi repo and is on offer at $7.99 (normally $9.99) for 3 days. Some of you are probably thinking WOW! That’s a bit steep! But is it? really? This is a huge function that you are reclaiming from Apple here, and personally it is well worth the price of a packet of cigarettes.

The team behind Celeste, CocoaNuts, have set up a support page on ModMyi to help anyone with any questions or issues.

Because Celeste incorporates Gremlin (a system used to put videos and music into your library on your idevice) any files that have been transferred via bluetooth will added to your idevices library but also will sync and be added to your iTunes library.

Personally I can’t wait for CocoaNuts to release this and I will definitely be purchasing it.

As soon as its released be assured that we will do a full review.

Hot news from the team known as CocoaNuts has been released. The team that brought us Yourtube 2 and gremlin, which allows access to the iPod.app and therefore let’s you download and add YouTube videos straight to the iPod.app have announced their next big project!

Codenamed “Celeste”, this new app is said to provide the ability to send and receive files via Bluetooth. Obviously this is not the first time we have seen Bluetooth enabled on an iDevice, most will remember iBlueNova, created by Medevil, which was released on 2.x and nearly a year after 3.0 was released it was updated. Sadly it has shown no signs of being updated for 4.0 as of yet, and both their Twitter account and site have been down for some time, so the appearance of this new project brings back the hope of getting this ability back.

I am still not sure exactly who the members of CocoaNuts are, but I do have an inkling as to who they may be.

They have, however, released the image below on Twitter, just to give everyone a sneak preview, some may say it is fake etc but this team of developers are not to be underestimated!

We will keep you up to date with any new developments.

Thanks to @charlieraf for the tip!

Yesterday saw the release of one of the most awaited cydia apps for 3.0, and that app is iBlueNova.

iBlueNova unlocks Apples once very limited bluetooth to now allow sending and receiving stuff via bluetooth.

iBlueNova is available in cydia with a 15 day trial and then costs $5.99. The trial version does not block anything out at all which is really cool.

iBlueNova allows users to send music (from iPod library), pics, vids and other files, as well as also receive them.

When opening the app, firstly you are greeted with a splash screen, then a screen with 2 switches. The first that will enable your bluetooth and then the second to allow your phone to be discovered by others.

When sending a file via iBlueNova you are greeted with a screen that then allows you to select your file and then discover other devices. From there you are shown a screen that displays the rate and percentage of your transfer.

When sending a music file you are given 4 options on how to find the song you wish to send. These are:

Songs

Artists

Albums

Ringtones

The app also has its own settings section which allows you to change the name of your device and set a pin to allow authorization. In the settings you can also set it to save incoming photo’s as JPG and not PNG files.

The other option in the settings section is to allow your various files to be saved in different locations.

All in all this is a great little tweak and adds a huge value to the iPhone. In my opinion this app adds a missing piece to the iPhone that should of been there from the start.

There is one thing though that would be nice and I hope it makes it into an update and that is to allow music that has been sent to your iPhone to be added to your iPod library for playback.

The BTstack Mouse allows you to use a BT mouse on the iPhone and actually see the mouse pointer on the iPhone screen.

This is a great new feature created for the iPhone and will work excellently together with the BTstack Keyboard released by the same Author Matthias Ringwald.

Below is a vid of BTstack Mouse working with a magic mouse.

Please be aware that this will not work with 1G iPhone or 1G iPod Touch.
