With the announcement that Apple is expected to hold a media event on the 4th of October, there are reports that Apple are also to update the iPod Touch with a white version with minor improvements alongside the new iPhone hardware.

“MacRumors has received information indicating that the next iPod touch revision will be a very minor change, with the primary addition being the introduction of a new white model. Only minor changes are expected for the existing hardware, with the addition of an oleophobic coating for the display and a revised ambient light sensor seemingly being the main differences. Otherwise, we expect the models to be nearly identical to the current fourth-generation iPod touch model.”

You may remember earlier this year, Apple had posted images of an iPod Touch showing a 3G signal on its website by mistake. Could this include that update? There were reports that Apple would introduce a 3G version for the pre-paid market…

I’m not entirely convinced. The image above shows what it could look like but obviously the button would be white too. Someone simply just placed the new look front on top of a current black version. But it kind of also looks like its just a cut out piece of paper with the plastic film placed on top to make it shiny (hence the tab at the top). But hey…

We will see.

So after much time off and only recently coming back into the iPhone world @planetbeing (David Wong) has released a video of Google’s Linux based Android OS running on a 2G iPhone.

During the video you can see that the major parts of the Android OS all work on the 2G iPhone, these include calls, messages, music and Internet.

The video shows Planetbeing first running the the Apple iPhone OS, then using OpeniBoot to boot the Android OS. Planetbeing then shows us the settings menu of Android and manually searching for music.

This is only working on the 2G iPhone at the moment but Planetbeing says that the porting to the 3G should not be to hard, but 3GS porting may take some work.

If you have a spare 2G iPhone lying around and fancy showing Google’s OS off on your phone then Planetbeing has posted a link to the files over on his blog.

Click here to view the embedded video.

I personally think that this is great and if I had a spare 2G lying around I would definitely go for it, just for the show off factor lol.

If you have any opinions on this hack please leave a comment below and let us know what you think.

So after much hoping and lots of jailbraking by iPhone users (esp 2G and 3G users) Apple has approved a new app that allows us to record video on our 2G and 3G iPhones (3GS users your just lucky lol), and it comes in the form of iVideoCamera.

iVideoCamera is available from the app store at a cheap price of just 59p.

Like I said before the app allows you to record video but also save it straight to your camera role (really nice addition I might add). The app also allows you to share you vids via Facebook, Youtube, Vimeo and Twitter.

One thing I love about this app is that the makers Laan Labs have not messed us about in the description of the app they have told us just how it is:

They tell us it records about 3 frames per minute, they tell us we can record for 1 minute only and they say the resolution is low at 160 x 213.

But even though the app has these limitations I still love it, its great to be able to whip out the trusty iPhone and record the kids messing or the dogs in the park and then upload it straight to your favorite social network for all your mates to see.

Have a look at the quality for yourself from a video that I uploaded last night.

Tonight the Dev-Team have released a jailbreak for the 3.1 firmware but with a twist. The Jailbreak is only for the iPhone 2G, 3G and iPod Touch 1G.

The Jailbreak process is just for Mac users at the moment so windows users will have to wait until custom .ipsw files are made and uploaded by kind Mac users or till the Dev-Team release a windows program.

People considering using the Jailbreak will want to read the post by the Dev-Team carefully here.

Below is a quick snippet:

This is the low down on our tools for use with the 3.1 firmware from Apple, please read the whole post in full before attempting anything. Because of changes with Apple’s update techniques this will be a multipart release, starting with the initial release of PwnageTool for Mac OS X – this application supports the iPhone 1st Generation (2G), The iPhone 3G and the iPod touch 1G. NB: THIS DOES NOT SUPPORT THE 3GS OR NEW IPOD TOUCH. redsn0w for Mac OS X and Windows will follow sometime in the near future, please don’t bug us about it – we’ll release when we have something ready.

GOLDEN RULE:If you are using a 3G iPhone with ultrasn0w and rely on ultrasn0w to obtain cellular service, then you should only upgrade to 3.1 with a PwnageTool created .ipsw. – Stay away from Apple’s direct updates as described here and here please get up to speed on the whole subject by reading the information contained in these posts.

If you have an original iPhone (1st generation) then 3.1 unlock works with this PwnageTool release. iPhone 3G users upgrading to 3.1 will need to continue using ultrasn0w with a PwnageTool created 3.1 .ipsw

Please read all parts of this post before downloading and using these tools.

Read items 1, 2 and 3 again and again.

At the bottom of this post are the bittorrent files for the 3.1 capable version of PwnageTool.

This app is suitable for the recent 3.1 release.

This version of PwnageTool will NOT work for the iPhone 3GS.

PwnageTool WILL ONLY work for Original iPhone (1st Generation), Original iPod touch (1st Generation) and the iPhone 3G.
