Ping! Free Messenger for iPhone

Article by on Wednesday, 30 September 2009

pingIf you have come to the iPhone from a blackberry then you will know all about Blackberry messenger, a tool that sends IM’s to and from Blackberries for free. Well now the iPhone has it’s own IM and it comes in the version of Ping!

Ping! is an instant messaging client for the iPhone that looks and feels like the built in iPhone SMS client. It aims to provide free iPhone to iPhone messaging.

When you first open the app, that is currently free, it asks you to select a username/ID, from there on in you can start to invite people you know also with an iPhone to start IM’ing you. Contacts via Ping! can be linked to you contacts so their picture will show up in the app.

Once you’ve started a conversation, the application works just like the SMS client except it’s free, instant and works internationally at no extra cost. Whenever you receive a message you’ll receive a push notification and you can respond just as you would with SMS.

The UI is clean and simple, there are a few odd bugs here and there such as the app may not open first time, but it is the very first release so expect them to be cleared up soon.

To find out more about the app look at the YouTube vid below.

Us guys here at Nazaroth.co.uk have been using it for a few days now and we simple love it. Its a must have app to have and I would say it fits in there with apps such as facebook and tweetie.
