Cydget – Lockscreen Manager
Last week Saurik (Author of Cydia) released a new “tool” called Cydget.
Now Cydget is not so much of an app but more of a Management tool for your lockscreen.
So what does Cydget actually do then if its not an app you may ask, well heres the answer.
Cydget allows you to have different lockscreen apps without the need of “winterboard”.

The tool installs itself in the main settings app of your iPhone and allows you to manage your diffent lockscreens from it. You can choose which lockscreens that you want to work and what order they are in/show up. To get from lockscreen to lockscreen all you need to do in press your home button while your lockscreen is showing and then it will change to the next one.

Cydget comes with one main lockscreen “gadget” pre-installed called Cydialer. Cydialer allows you to make calls directly from your lockscreen, it does this by pulling the information including the contacts picture directly from your favorites list of the phone app and displays them in true cover flow style.

I truly believe Cydget is an awesome tool and with extra “gadgets” appearing on Cydia daily for it, possibilities are endless. Some “gadgets” have been released already include:
- Locklight – torch straight from the lockscreen
- New Years Countdown – I think you can work that out
- Smoking – Works out how many years of life you have lost and how much money you have spent smoking
Here is what Saurik said about Cydget.
Cydget provides a comprehensive replacement for WinterBoard Lock Widgets, allowing developers and web designers to take control of the lock screen using either native code or HTML with JavaScript and Cycript, allowing flexible access to Objective-C.
Like WinterBoard Themes, Cydgets are configured using a reorder-able list. Go to “Settings” then “Cydget” to activate, deactivate, and organize.
An example Cydget is included to demonstrate the technology: show a random picture from your camera roll.
Some of Cydget’s core benefits:
- configuration allows HTML scrolling
- multiple Cydgets can be rotated
- they stop running when screen dims
- Cycript embedding for library calls
