T-Mobile US is enabling 3G service for unlocked iPhones on their network!

Article by on Tuesday, 20 December 2011

According to Electronista, T-Mobile is enabling 3G access for unlocked iPhones in certain areas of the country as part of their 84Mbps upgrade.

Multiple reports are coming in, that T-Mobile are switching on 3G service for frequencies that are compatible with unlocked iPhones, and other devices that can also be used, like iPads with access to 3G from their carrier. Some parts of Nevada and some parts of Northern California as well as the Northwest are seeing 1,900MHz being used as additional carrying space for the HSPA+ 84Mbps network anticipated for 2012. Customers who live in the altered area are seeing speeds as high as [one example] 7.92Mbps down and 1.8Mbps up, which is faster than AT&T’s 3G network, EDGE. I personally saw a screenshot that listed 13Mbps down, which I found completely amazing.

Over all, as T-Mobile looks to expand its network in the new year, some unlocked iPhone users may finally get the speeds that they have been desiring on the T-Mobile network. Maybe the breakup between T-Mobile and AT&T was actually a good thing for current users of T-Mobile, as in related news, it is also been reported that T-Mobile is going to expand their US network a little bit due to generosity from AT&T. As usual, keep your eyes peeled, and we will update you as we hear anything new about this rollout, and any additional locations that get added to the list.
