Skype To Stay FREE Over 3G!!
Back in may, Skype released version 2.0 of their iPhone application which allowed users to use the service over 3G rather that wifi only. This release was accompanied by the news that by the end of August, there would be a small monthly fee in order to continue using the service over 3G.
Skype has just announced however, that they intend to keep this service free for all it’s users;
At Skype, we believe that better call quality and better availability (which is achieved with an app capable of multitasking and/or making calls over 3G) lead to increased call frequency and longer calls. We also believe that the mobile world is in a period of significant change, for example, with some operators starting to move to tiered pricing models.
In light of that, we no longer have plans to charge a supplement to make calls over 3G. We’re delighted to make it easier for you to talk for even longer and do even more together using Skype.
This announcement comes in the wake of much criticism which caused them to postpone the planned charges back to the end of 2010 originally. This news will come as a great comfort to all users of Skype, especially as all new iPhone 4 users are waiting with baited breath for the inclusion of video calling capabilities.
We will be back with news of any developments regarding this when it is made public.
