iOS 5.0.1 re-released just for iPhone 4S

Article by on Thursday, 15 December 2011

Apple has announced that it has re-released the iOS update 5.0.1 for the iPhone 4S.

Since the release of the 4S, the successor to the iPhone 4, it has been inundated with complaints about battery life issues, with many users claiming a loss of up to 10% battery life every hour.

iOS 5.0.1 was originally released for every iOS 5 compatible device and it was claimed to fix the battery issues but most users have not noticed any significant improvements from before.

With iOS 5.1 being released in beta to dev’s it was thought that Apple would try and cure the battery problems along with Siri-related upgrades all in one swoop. iOS 5.0.1 is thought to be a stop gap, curing the battery problems, until the more significant upgrade is released, meaning that a predicted early 2012 release for iOS 5.1 now seems more accurate.

It’s not known why the re-release is designed purely for the iPhone 4S but at least now users will be able to experience better battery life so they can now turn their attention to more important issues such as hacking Siri and an untethered Jailbreak which is agonisingly close to being released.
