Indians left stumped by Siri
The iPhone 4S launched in India on thursday at midnight and there were queues of keen buyers around the Bangalore Apple store. But turns out the distinguishing feature of the new phone doesn’t always work very well for its Indian owners.
According to DailyBashkar.com - Apple enthusiasts flocked “to the Apple store on Thursday. At 12 midnight, actor Nidhi Subbaiah launched the touch-phone amid much cheering and applause.”
DNA spoke to customers and got mixed reactions. While some flaunted the newly added features, some rated it as exorbitantly priced. Arun Naik said: “It’s expensive. The 16 GB model is being sold for Rs44,500. On the other hand, the 32 GB and 64 GB will cost Rs50,900 and Rs57,500.” Saqib Jawad, a software professional, said: “The iPhone 4S is the best in its class.
The most amazing aspect is it does what you say. The voice-activated personal assistant, Siri, finds information and then answers back.”
Siri is currently in beta stages on the iPhone 4S and only available in English US, UK and Aus accents as well as French (as spoken in France) and German, so Indian users should expect that Siri will not work correctly for them. But this hasn’t stopped them having a bit of a sigh.
In 2012, Siri will support additional languages, including Japanese, Chinese, Korean, Italian, and Spanish.
