How to Jaibreak Your iPhone 3G on OS 3.1.2 Using Redsn0w 0.9 (Windows)

Article by on Sunday, 24 January 2010

Redsn0w 0.9 beta 3 was released yesterday by the Dev-Team.

Redsn0w is an alternative jailbreaking and unlocking tool to blackra1n for both Windows and Mac.

Redsn0w allows users to customize Apples firmware without the use of iTunes. I allows users to Jailbrake, personalize boot and recovery logo.

So for all you want to be jailbrakers out there here is how to use it.

N.B Latest iPhone 3GS, iPod touch 2G and iPod touch 3G are still ‘tethered’ for jailbraking, meaning that to boot they need to be connected to PC/Mac. These will not support custom boot logos either. This is only a beta and only supports Intel Mac users

1. You need to restore your device to a clean and original version of the Apple’s 3.1.2 Firmware.

2. Download redsn0w 0.9 here and start the application. Browse to the Original iPhone OS 3.1.2 .ipsw file for your iPhone/iPod touch.

3. Redsn0w will now validate the firmware (.ipsw) and patch the original file.

4. 2G users can select both “Install Cydia” and “Unlock” options. iPhone 3G, 3GS and iPod touch users should only check on “Install Cydia” to jailbreak.

5. Plug in your device and turn it off (slide to unlock) then follow the on screen instructionsCAREFULLY.

6. Now go and make a refreshing drink and come back to find your idevice nicely jailbroken running 3.1.2. Enjoy
