Google has launched the new Google Schemer, an app that may make us all little bit more active and, hopefully, happier to boot. Google Schemer allows you to plug in some of the things that you are scheming to do. That may be something simple like going bowling, or checking out a restaurant, or something more ambitious like painting your first mural. Google Schemer helps to keep track of these things and, more importantly, suggests new schemes based on what you have already done.

Google Schemer uses the weather, time of day and location as metrics for deciding what to recommend. Google Schemer has also found its way off of Android and on to iOS.

Here’s the Official Teaser of Schemer:

Click here to view the embedded video.

What’s more interesting is that Google is more eager to bring it’s latest mobile software to iOS rather than Android. Also Google apps on iOS receives more frequent updates and fixes than the Android Versions.

As for Google Schemer, Its highly likely that Google would soon kill the Schemer App and integrate it into Google+

Switchy by iOS developer John Coates brings an AppSwitcher concept posted on The Verge to a reality.

Switchy makes the App Switcher much larger giving you more room to see your backgrounded applications and decreases the amount of pages you need to go through to get to a backgrounded application re-opened. Switchy also includes page indicators at the bottom of the App Switcher (similar to the ones at the botton of the Homescreen Pages).

Read On….

Switchy also brings a new look to the iPod interface allowing users to see more information about their music, including the artist, album, and song name and even gives you the volume bar at the bottom of the iPod interface.

Then there is the Settings Page. The Settings page is still in the works, however it includes a brightness slider, Settings application shortcut, and a kill-all apps button. The Settings page also has the brightness slider at the bottom giving you better control over the Brightness of the iDevice.

Developer of Switchy, John, hopes to add more toggles and some more settings to the Settings section of the App Switcher as displayed on The Verge’s concept article. As of now, the kill-all-apps button, brightness shortcut, and spacier interface makes Switchy so much better than Apple’s original AppSwitcher design. Switchy is also fully compatible with other Jailbreak Tweaks like Zephyr and Imperium.

With a promise of more functionality, Switchy is a must have in its current state as well. Switchy is available on Cydia for $1.

LaunchSpeak is a new Cydia tweak by developer fr0st that allows users to input their own custom text that you want your iDevices to speak when you launch an application from the Homescreen.

To start using LaunchSpeak, Users after installing LaunchSpeak from Cydia, must head over to the preferences in the Settings.app where you must input the Custom Text in the text input box. Read On….

Apart from changing the text, you also have the ability to toggle the tweak on and off, which is a good tool to have just in case you are in a location where you need to be quiet and don’t want iOS to be speaking constantly while you use it.

LaunchSpeak requires users to respring every time they change the text from the text input box. Two things that the tweak is missing include the ability to respring directly from the Settings application, which is a problem if you don’t have an easy respring method installed such as SBSettings, and a preferences pane icon. The developer promises both of these things to be present in a future update to LaunchSpeak.

The only downside is that the tweak doesn’t respond to the Silent Button toggle on the iPhone. So, If you want the tweak to stop, one way is to adjust the iPod volume controls or disable LaunchSpeak from the Settings.app

LaunchSpeak is available in the ModMyi Repo on Cydia for Free.

Let us know your take on LaunchSpeak in the comments below….

This article only concerns those people in the UK who have been experiencing issues connecting to the likes of the AppStore, iTunes, Apple.com etc on their Apple devices.

Ok, so starting around Sunday night, I started to experience some very strange issues on my iPhone. As stated above I was having issues connecting to certain websites/apps. What was strangest was that the majority of the sites/apps that I was unable to connect to were all Apple related with the exception of a few others. It then became apparent that I had the same issue on my iPad, MacBook and Apple TV. I started to think “Are Apple blocking me??”.

I managed to narrow the issue down to my home wifi connection which is provided by Sky by switching to 3G on my iPhone, the issues disappeared immediately. So I rang Sky.

After 40 minutes or so, the rep did all he could but was completely stumped as to what the issue could be. He gave me a reference number and said he would pass the issue to a higher tier and get them to phone me back, but in the mean time I should phone Apple to see if they could work it out, so I did.

Sadly, as I expected, Apple confirmed that it had to be an issue with my wifi connection. So I had no choice but to wait for the call back from Sky. Q

On Tuesday I received a text from a colleague at work asking me if I was having issues connectin……you can see where this is going. By the end of Tuesday no less than 5 others contacted me about these same issues, all of whom are with Sky. Great, I thought, I am not alone and I am not the butt of an elaborate joke by Apple. So, armed with some info for when the Sky team phoned back I patiently waited.

A few hours later I received the call, and after another 20 minutes, finally the guy came back with a solid answer. Due to issues with NSLookup on their servers, certain areas of the UK are experiencing issues with images not loading on websites, but so far they had not had a case as extreme as mine! Well now they have 6 cases! The solution? Wait. Wait for their engineers to resolve the issue. Thanks Sky, thanks a bunch.

Luckily, thanks to one of our avid readers, @The_General_McG who spotted one of my distress tweets, I now have a fix for you. Simply follow the instructions below to change the DNS to OpenDNS.

On iPhone, iPad and iPod Touch

Ensure you are connected to the offending wifi

Go to the Settings app

Open wifi settings

Press the blue arrow next to your home broadband name

in the DNS section, replace the existing entry with “208.67.222.222, 208.67.220.220″ including the comma but without the quotes

Exit out of the Settings app

Reboot your device and then test the connection by trying to view something you couldn’t before i.e AppStore

On a Mac

Open the Preferences app

Choose the Network icon

Make sure the wifi is selected (will be green)

Press “Advanced” button

Choose “DNS” from the tabs along the top

Press the “+” to add a new entry

Add 208.67.222.222 and 208.67.220.220. You will need to add them as two separate ones as it won’t accept the comma

Click apply and ok

That’s it! You should now have no issues connecting now.

It is worth noting that this fix will only be applied when connecting to the specific wifi connection you do it to, any new connections will need to have these steps repeated.

Obviously when Sky actually resolve this issue you can just reset your network settings and connect using the default DNS.

If you are one of the unfortunate ones to have experienced these issues then please tell us about it in the comments below.

In March 2012, a couple of lawsuits were filed against Apple claiming that the company had misadvertised Siri to convey a “misleading and deceptive message” about Siri.

However, Apple firmly disagreed the claim.

Apple is now working to get the Class-Action Lawsuit dismissed from a California court by claiming customers could return the iPhone within 30 days of purchase if they are unhappy with Siri.

Here’s what Apple had to say:

“They offer only general descriptions of Apple’s advertisements, incomplete summaries of Apple’s website materials, and vague descriptions of their alleged—and highly individualized—disappointment with Siri. Tellingly, although Plaintiffs claim they became dissatisfied with Siri’s performance “soon after” purchasing their iPhones, they made no attempt to avail themselves of Apple’s 30-day return policy or one-year warranty—which remains in effect. Instead, they seek to take an alleged personal grievance about the purported performance of a popular product and turn it into a nationwide class action under California’s consumer protection statutes. The Complaint does not come close to meeting the heavy burden necessary to sustain such claims.”

The company also claimed that Siri is ”cutting edge” even with the ‘Beta’ label.

Here’s some of Siri’s *deceptive* Advertisements:
