As you may have guessed from the image above, the great people over at ModMyi.com have invited us to integrate our repo with theirs. What does this mean?

The MyGreatiPhone repo source will cease to exist, instead, all your great packages will be moved over to the ModMyi repo.

If you have our source in your sources list in cydia you must delete it to reduce any issues that this merger may cause. We know it will be difficult to inform everyone of this important change so please spread the word so we can make this as smooth as possible for everybody.

We are by NO means quitting the repo, everything will stay the same from your point of view, we are still accepting package submissions via our upload form as normal.

You will still see our logo and information in Cydia along with all the information for your packages, only now, thanks to ModMyi, we can provide you with live download statistics.

We will also be able to host paid content, be it Applications or themes.

Your packages will now be seen by the 2 million people that use Cydia worldwide, as we will be a part of THE biggest community source in Cydia.

The source will be taken down when the timer runs out so make sure you act on this before then.

We think that this is a great move and are proud to be associated with ModMyi.

Everything else will continue to run as normal, Forum, Blog etc. the only area this affects is our repo source. We hope you agree with us and continue to support us here at MyGreatiPhone and we welcome all feedback so feel free to leave a comment

This morning saw the release of a tweak called Infiniboard. Infiniboard you say dont you mean Infinidock.

Infiniboard is like Infinidock’s big sister it allows you to scroll your Springboard vertically.

Infiniboard is made by chpwn the same developer of Infinidock. It is available through the Bigboss repo and costs $1.99.

Now I have been awaiting for this to come out for a while and the first thing I did this morning was download it, but after having a chance to play with it for a while it doesn’t seem to be of much use.

I mean this tweak was first available back in the old skool days of OS1.1 and there it had its place, but now we have pages so there is no need to be able to scroll the springboard vertically.

All in all this is a clever little tweak but until someone does something amazing with it in a theme then I don’t think it will last long.

Please if you have any great ideas for infiniboard leave a comment below.

“what other tweaks / apps should I get from cydia”

So I have decided to give you guys and girls out there a run down on MyGreatiPhone.com’s best Cydia Apps.

Please note that these are in no particular order.

Number 1 – WinterBoard

The first app that springs to mind when I think of Cydia, is an app that makes most people jailbreak.

Winterboard is the app that allows you to theme your iPhone. This app was developed by Saurik (Jay Freeman – maker of Cydia) to take the place of SummerBoard once OS 2.0 was released.

Saurik made this so that people out there could once again start to theme their iPhones. Winterboard is free so if you want to change the look of your iDevice then go and grab it.

Number 2 – Lockinfo

Lockinfo is one of my favorite tweaks available in Cydia and over the last few months we have seen loads of new added features.

Lockinfo adds all the stuff to the lockscreen that should have been stock on the iPhone. Through Lockinfo I am able to view emails, SMS, notifications, rss feeds and my twitter all in a nice little organised display.

Lockinfo costs $4.99 and is available through the modmyi repo.

Keeps your eyes open for new things coming to Lockinfo soon.

Number 3 & 4 – iFile & Safari Download Manager

Now these 2 apps can not be separated really and they work really well together.

iFile is a a file manager with capabilites to email, edit, delete, copy, cut, paste, rename, view, compress, uncompress, install and transfer files.

Put that with Safari Download Manager which manages your downloads within iPhone Safari Browser. SDM supports almost every downloadable extension.

So lets think about this your out and about, your looking for a new theme on the web and find one you like. The trouble is that its in a .rar file well SDM will download it for you and the iFile will unrar it and allow you to move it to the right directory on your phone. Hay presto new theme. iFile costs $4.00 and is available from the bigboss repo while Safari Download Manager is $2.00 and is from the same repo.

Number 5 – SBSettings

SBSettings is a hud display that comes down from the status bar when you swipe you finger left to right over it.

Now SBSetting is not a one hit wonder app, it does many many things. It allows you to free up available memory, toggle things on & off such as wi-fi, bluetooth and 3G. The tweak also allows users to respring their iPhone aswell as reboot.

A couple of extra things SBSettings can do is hide icons or move them into its own little dock.

This tweak is free and is available from the bigboss repo

Number 6 – OpenSSH

Open SSH is a background utility that allows users to connect their iDevices over wi-fi to the Mac or PC. To use OpenSSH you will need a client programme on your machine such as WinSCP for windows. This will then allow you to log into your iDevice and look through the directories.

OpenSSH is a great tool for theme developers as it allows them to install their theme to test it out before they release it to the public.

OpenSSH is free and is a great way to mod files on your idevice.

Please be aware though that you can do potential damage with OpenSSH if you are unsure what you are doing with it.

Below are some videos to show you how to use OpenSSH

Click here to view the embedded video.

Click here to view the embedded video.

Number 7 & 8 – Proswitcher & Backgrounder

Proswitcher is a front end to the app backgrounder. It allows users to easily switch between apps with a simple gesture.

The app comes from the Palm Pre WebOS idea and looks similar.

The app uses a libary called libactivator and allows users to pick a gesture to start Proswitcher running. This could be anything from a double tap of the status bar to pinching the icons on the Springboard

Proswitcher is developed by chpwn & Ryan Petrich, developer of OverBoard and is available from the BigBoss repo for free.

Backgrounder is also a free app, and allows applications to run at the same time.

The only thing with Backgrounder is that it can be memory intensive as apps are not designed to be run in the background (something that Apple should have really thought about).

If however, you have a 3GS iPhone, you should not really see a problem.

Number 9 – qTweeter

qTweeter is one of the teams favourite twitter clients. It allows you to update both your Twitter account and Facebook account at the same time.

With just a swipe down from the status bar the app appears. You can post vids, pics and geotag straight from this little tweak and the best bit about it is that you can open it while any other app is open also.

qTweeter costs $4.99.

Number 10 – Quickreply

QuickReply is a SMS tweak that allows you to respond to any SMS / MMS from any app or lockscreen.

When activated a pop-up appears with the message and whom it is from and then gives you 3 options, Close, View and Reply.

The close option will do just that and close the bubble, View will close your current app and open the Messages app and Reply will show you the message and a keyboard overlaying your current app.

QuickReply costs $2.99 and is available from the BigBoss repo.

So there you have it people MyGreatiPhone.com’s top 10 Cydia apps. Now not all of us use every single one of these but we all use some of them. There are loads more tweaks and apps in cydia that are great but we feel that we can not live with out these ones.

So unlock your iPhone now, scroll over to Cydia and have a look for yourselves, I bet you download at least one of these if you don’t use them already.

Sony is developing a new line up of products to compete with Apple’s growing stable of portable devices, according to the WSJ.

Journal sources say, the company plans to release a new smart phone which is capable of downloading and playing Playstation games.

In addition, plans for a device that combines a netbook, e-reader, and PSP are under way. The new product is designed to compete against the Apple iPad and similar devices.

As part of Chief Executive Howard Stringer’s turnaround plan Sony plans to distribute movies, television shows, music, and games to these devices via the Sony Online Service.

While the company has made progress in cutting costs and streamlining its production; it has not delivered a game changer product to tie in their online service and help move the company forward.

Will Sony be able to build a worthy rival for Apple’s iPad?

Once again our resident theme developer Paplip has been hard at work with a new theme named ‘Epic Pro’

Epic Pro is a full theme that includes icons, wallpapers, loading screens, and lots more.

Now as we all now Paplip is a hard working theme developer, but this theme puts his others to shame. I have had the pleasure of using this for a couple of days now and believe me its a theme that I love.

So why should you take my word for it? Well I’m one of these people that when I install a theme I need to have everything, mainly all the icons to be themed, if that doesn’t happen then I go back to stock.

Well this theme has made me keep it for the last few days.

So that’s enough about my little addiction to having icons all the same, now lets talk about this theme.

So let me tell you a little about the icons. As you can see from the pic the icons come with a thin silver edge to them that narrow down towards the bottom. There is no mistaking which icons are for what app which I think makes a great theme.

One more thing about the icons is that all app store apps will be themed as they are downloaded from the store as Paplip has created an icon mask. Excellent work Paplip.

So we move on to the other parts of the theme, Paplip has created this nice little loading screen that shows for as long as it takes for your app to load. One thing I love about this screen is that it isn’t too busy, just plain and simple. To go along with the loading screen, Paplip has also created a little loading cue that takes place of the spinning wheel.

As I said previously Paplip put his all into this theme and this can be seen from the little touches like the switches that are used by apps like settings.

Other parts of this theme that have been themed are the Messages app, iPod app, and well everything. Every little bit of attention to detail is there.

There are a few things that need to be said though, and the first is when you apply this theme remember to use the iWipe Cache app from cydia to theme the rest of your app store icons.

Other things that I hope Paplip will work on to make this great theme even better is to add a few more details like a silver boarder to buttons and to work on the search bar in Safari.

I have been promised by Paplip that he will be updating this theme, so hopefully we will see some of these tweaks then, along with some more Cydia icons that need to be themed.

Epic Pro is available from the ModMyi repo as it is a paid theme and will cost $2.

If you would like more icons added to this theme hit Paplip up on twitter @Paplip and I’m sure he would be more than happy to help.

Below is Hoodstah’s YouTube review of this great theme. Well done Paplip, 5 Stars from me.

Recently it was reported that Apple fired 40 employees from the Final Cut team. Macsoda sent an email to Jobs regarding the state of Final Cut Pro

Jobs replied saying the following,

“No worries. FCP is alive and well.

Sent from my iPhone”

9to5Mac had a look at the headers to confirm this email was authentic. Interestingly the email is from iPhone Mail (7D11) which means Jobs is still using OS 3.1.2. He hasn’t updated to OS 3.1.3 (7E18) and isn’t using a 4.0 beta as you might expect.

Does this mean Steve Jobs jailbreaks? Tell Me What You Think.

Apple has finally issued some statements about the recent purge of sex related applications from the App Store.

Philip W. Schiller, head of worldwide product marketing at Apple, told the New York Times that over the last few weeks a small number of developers had been submitting “an increasing number of apps containing very objectionable content.”

“It came to the point where we were getting customer complaints from women who found the content getting too degrading and objectionable, as well as parents who were upset with what their kids were able to see,” Mr. Schiller said.

“We obviously care about developers, but in the end have to put the needs of the kids and parents”

With over 5000 applications already removed Apple has destroyed the livelihood of many developers. Fred Clarke, co-president of On the Go Girls said that as of Monday all 50 of his company’s applications were no longer available. “I’m shocked… We’re showing stuff that’s racier than the Disney Channel, but not by much. It’s very hard to go from making a good living to zero,” he said. “This goes farther than sexy content. For developers, how do you know you aren’t going to invest thousands into a business only to find out one day you’ve been cut off?”

Even worse, Apple seems to have a double standard when it comes to applications published by large corporations. Both the Sports Illustrated and Playboy applications are still alive and well on the App Store.

When asked about the Sports Illustrated app, Mr. Schiller said Apple took the source and intent of an app into consideration. “The difference is this is a well-known company with previously published material available broadly in a well-accepted format,” he said.

Leave your comments and let us know what you think about this. Is Apple wrong for going this? Are they doing the right thing? Let us know.

This morning I got a Yak message from fellow mygreatiphoner Nazaroth letting me know that the update to qTweeter was amazing. Well I thought to myself I’ll have to jump straight on that one.

For all you guys and girls out there that dont know about qTweeter here is a little bit one of my favorite tweeter clients.

qTweeter is a app that has no icon for your springboard, with just one swipe down from your status bar you are there (kinda slick aint it). The app allows you to post tweets and Facebook updates straight from this panel, and the best bit about it is that you can do this from your springboard or any app that is open.

So there you go that’s basically it. So why you ask, did Nazaroth Yak me saying it was amazing, well let me tell you more.

qTweeter is available through Cydia and costs $4.99. The app does loads more than the things I have just mentioned, it allows you to update multiple Twitter and Facebook accounts so you don’t have to update each one individually.

Now I now myself and Nazaroth have both been using qTweeter for a while and one thing that we have been waiting for for ages is the ability to search for users (friends) in qTweeter and be able to @ (mention) them. Now sometimes this can be hard as some peoples usernames on twitter aren’t that easy to remember especially if you follow or are followed by a lot of people. Well the people at Efiko Software (the authors of qTweeter) have now made it a lot easier for us by adding the Twitter friend Finder. Just tap the @ symbol at the top of the qTweeter panel and up will pop a screen that will let you search for friends either by Full name or Screen Name.

One you tap on their name from this screen it will instantly add there screen name to your tweet. Now that’s the first bit of the update that sold me but wait there is a hell of a lot more.

The app allows you to post pics and vids from it and provides a variety of site links that will do it for you. For instance I wish to tweet a pic of me writing this, I just swipe down tap the little photo icon at the top and I’m greeted with 3 options: Video, Photo and Library. I tap photo and the camera appears, take my pic, tap use and then I’m shown a full scale pic of the photo behind the qTweeter panel, tap update status and qTweeter will send it to one of your chosen pic hosts either Twipic, yFrog or Posterous.

Before I mentioned that it will also post video. Now I can here all you 3G and 2G iPhone users say “how can I post video” well qTweeter allows 3G and 2G users to use Cycorder from Cydia. Once again qTweeter allows hosting for videos by TwitVid, yFrog and Posterous.

So lets say that your walking down the street listening to this great new tune that you have on your iPhone and you want to share what your listening to with all your followers and friends. Tap the Music note at the top of qTweeter and the app will auto post the name of the artist and the song that’s playing. It will also use the nowplaying #tag and put a link to where to buy the tune from.

Some other new features that have been added to qTweeter is the ability to update your profile location and add your location to your tweets.

As well as being able to post what tunes you are listening to, you can also share what websites your reading. qTweeter will post the name of the article and shrink the URL and post it straight away. While we’re talking about URL’s we all know that Twitter only allows users to use 140 characters to update their status’. If yow wish to post a URL in your tweet then this can take alot of those 140 characters up. Now qTweeter will auto shrink any URL that you tweet.

Another thing that I noticed about the update today is that users now have the ability to cut, copy and paste. The previous version only allowed paste support so this is a nice little bonus. Saying that though the support for copy and cut is a little hit and miss and Efiko Software needs to work on this feature a little.

Below is a few more screenshots from the app:

So all in all this is a much awaited update that I know is one of the best updates that I have seen from an app. The features that have been added are priceless.

Yeah there could be a few tweaks especially to the copy and cut functions but I would definitely recommend this to you all.

qTweeter 3.0 is a five star Jailbreak App.
