Let me tell you how much fun this is to write about – an old – but VERY desired – feature from iOS 3.xx has been updated to function on iOS4, including the iPhone 4: The ability to have video wallpapers. This, in my opinion, was one of the coolest features of jailbreaking in regards to theming. Some of these video wallpapers enhanced a theme so much that it seemed naked without them, and now that problem is over. We can now have videos running as our background in Springboard, and here is how:

1) Open Cydia.

2) Go to the “Manage” tab.

3) Tap on “Sources”.

4) Tap on “Edit” in the upper right hand corner.

5) Tap on “Add” in the upper left hand corner.

6) Type in “http://i.danstaface.net/deb/

7) Tap “add source”, and let Cydia do its thing.
Now go into the source, and download the file called “vWallpaper”, and make sure it says that it is the version marked “(iOS4 only)”.

9) Install it.

10) Tap on the icon it created on your Springboard, and you’ll see this splash screen:

11)   Tap on “Video Wallpaper”;

12) Tap on “Enable Video” toggle to turn it on.

13) Tap on “Select video to play”, and choose your video!

Tell us what you think in the comments below! ALSO, as a sidenote, keep your eyes on http://www.iG33kstas.com ‘s forums/repo for brand new, custom designed HD vWallpapers specifically for the iPhone 4, thanks to @TechXero.

Yet another review of a Cydia App, this time in the form of something that will help out some of you SSH’ers! BUT LET ME ASK YOU ALL A QUESTION FIRST – Have you ever been fumbling around inside your system files, and wondered where you could find the apps folders? Not the generic, stock apps that come on the iDevice, but the AppStore apps, the ones you download? Did you ever want to change anything inside the app, or maybe modify something? (NOT RECOMMENDED unless you know EXACTLY what you’re doing, by the way!) Well, if you’ve ever gone looking, then you know how much of a pain it is to locate those directories. Well, no more! An answer to your prayers is here in the form of a new app available in Cydia called “AppLinks”.You simply download the app, and open it once its installed. Then, you tap on the “Refresh” button, watch as “AppLinks” populates the list, and you’ll get a message as to where you can find all of your app directories! It’s literally that simple. And for the impaired, let me include some screenshots, for your visual pleasure.

Now this is going to be a small, yet RAVE review about a nifty little tweak that has recently hit the Cydia store – “Auto3G’. This app is designed to save you TONS of battery life on your iDevice. What it does, is utilizes your “use time” by disabling the 3G service every time that you lock your iDevice. While it is locked, you simply won’t be running the 3G service. When you unlock, like magic, your 3G service is turned back on, and it’s restored. Now, most people won’t think that this tweak will do very much, but I can personally attest to the fact that this damned thing DOES work. I’ve been using it for approximately 3 days now, and while I have not observed the “100% extra battery life” it claims, I WOULD go on and safely say that I would estimate that it has given me approximately half (50%) more battery life than before. Then again, I always have my screen brightness set to exactly 50% anyway, so I am sure that helps as well. Regardless, I highly recommend this little tweak. You can find it in the Cydia store for $5.99. The price is a little bit steep, especially for such a tweak, however, it does work, and I am witness to that. Give it a shot, and tell us what you think!

This is perhaps one of those tweaks that should have been released back in iOS 3.0, but for whatever reason wasn’t. I have personally learned to SSH like a master when it comes to disabling badges in Cydia/Rock, using complex editing methods to trick apps into thinking I have the current version of a particular download. And sometimes, Cydia will mess up, or Rock will mess up, and continue telling me that I have pending updates (via badges) when I in fact, do not. This tweak is free, and quite simply, allows you to EDIT your badges, on ANY app.

Go to Cydia, and download “Badges” from the modmyi source. Its brought to you by Dan Zimmerman. Install it, and then respring your iDevice. Now, it will give you a splash screen with instructions. I’ll simplify what the screen says:

To activate the badges tweak, simply tap and hold any icon on your springboard. When they start to wiggle, double-tap them, and a screen will pop up, asking you what you want to enter into the field. Whatever you enter will be displayed once you tap “OK”.

If you have an app that you want to CLEAR the badge for (i.e. deleting those stupid, persistent little badges) simply tap on the “Clear” button, then tap “OK”, and it’s as simple as that. See some screenshots below.

Well, here at MyGreatiPhone.com, it seems to be “Tweak Week”, and coming at you is another AWESOME tweak that I have been waiting for ever since the day I learned how to jailbreak my iDevice – the ability to USE your device while it syncs with iTunes! This wonder app is called “Synchronicity”, and while it is not a free tweak (it costs $2.00 in Cydia), it is worth every single cent. I would even pay for it again, that’s how awesome this tweak is. I honestly can’t say enough good things about this gem. It is especially helpful for iPhone users who have massive updates, for example updates of movies, lots of apps, etc, who get text messages or phone calls while they are synching. You can literally do EVERYTHING as you normally could on your iDevice, EXCEPT for play music while your synching, understandably. If for example, you are using an app, let’s say NetFlix, and you are in the middle of synching your device, and it needs to update the NetFlix.app, it will automatically close that app, update it, and then voila, you can go right back to it. THIS IS A FUNCTION THAT SHOULD BE BUILT INTO THE STOCK iDEVICE. It functions perfectly in every way. When you sync your iDevice, it will simply have a red, pulsing drop-down bar at the top that says “iPhone is Synching” (think “blue tethering bar”/”green call-in-progress bar”). That’s it. There are no settings, nothing to confuse you, you install it, reboot your device, and it just works.

And it’s worth every damned penny, in my opinion. Please give it a whirl, and check it out. I guarantee that you will all be just as pleased as I was.

I truly don’t know where to start on this one. First things first, I HATE Rock. I have had nothing but bad experiences with it, and anyone who knows me knows that I’ve been put into the infinite boot loop on 3.1.2 because of Rock, and their infamous “battery suck” problem. If I were anyone else, i.e. a “normal” iPhone user, I would have lost my jailbreak and unlock, because at the time, there was no jailbreak OR unlock for 3.1.3. I would have been royally pissed. Why the reason for this tiny rant? Because in order to install this amazing app, MyWi 4.0, I have to install Rock. I hated having to do it, but I did. Once installed, this app is worth its weight in gold. It IS, however, RIDICULOUSLY priced at $20.00 in the Cydia/Rock store. But let me give you the breakdown, so here we go.

MyWi is an app that allows you to take your 3G signal, and BROADCAST it to anywhere around you in the form of a mobile “Wi-Fi hotspot”. This is especially useful if you have a laptop or a T-Mobile iPhone that needs internet. You can connect up to four devices to your iPhone’s Wi-Fi hotspot. You can also configure it. By its very nature, it will drain your battery a significant amount, but the creators of this app have done what they could to minimize that drain. There are two options that will matter when it comes to saving your battery: the ability to set the radius of how far your Wi-Fi hotspot will broadcast, and what type of notifications MyWi4 will display on your iOS. It gives you the option of the typical, pulsing blue bar at the top that tells you that a broadcast is in process, which sucks a LOT of your battery, or it gives you the simpler option of just having a status bar icon appear next to your battery indicator. This option takes NO battery power, so it’s a no brainer. As far as the radius you broadcast your hotspot, the lower the radius, the more battery power you will save. And since most of the time the devices you want to tether are right next to you, that shouldn’t matter very much.

$20.00 however, is a bit steep. I personally don’t agree with the pricing, but then again, I guess this is what the developers feel it is worth it. There is some silver lining, however, for people who had previously purchased MyWi for older iOS systems – If you upgrade your license, it will only cost you $10 to get the new version, which is a lot more reasonable in my eyes. There is also a ten day trial period, and for those inclined, there are also hacks that can allow you to have 1,000 days of a trial period. Just sayin’!

Give it a shot, and test it out! You can find MyWi in Cydia, so fire up that ten day trial period, and tell us what you think about it.

This article is more like a notification that there is an awesome app available in Cydia, and that you should get your ass in there and download it right now. The name of the app is called “MAME4ALL”, and if you’re any type of gamer, you will already know what this is – and you’ve probably wet yourself already. If not, then MAME follows suite with other GAME emulators, like NES4iPhone, and SNES4iPhone, etc. it is an emulator, for ARCADE GAMES. That’s right, imagine playing games like Mortal Kombat 1, 2, 3, 4, or Tekken, Street Fighter 2, Asteroid, and so many others, all on your iDevice! Obviously the newer models will run this more smoothly, such as the iPhone 3G[s], iPhone 4, iPod Touch 3G, and iPad, but it will work on older models as well, just with more lag. I won’t tell you where you can find the ROMS, but you can try to ask around at http://www.ja6636.com ‘s forums, and maybe they can help point you in the right direction. That’s all. Now get a move on and get started gaming.

This time around, the app is called “InfiniFolders”, and it is created by the same man who brought you the “InfiniDock” and “InfiniBoard”. This app brings one of the most desired features to iOS 4 – the ability to have infinite icons in any of the folders that iOS4 creates, instead of the prior limit of only 12. This enables scrolling up and down to view all of the icons in your folder, and it gives you a quick view of virtually everything. It also opens up the possibilities for us neat freaks. For example, if you’re a minimalist, you can simply take all of your icons and drop them into one folder, and that would be the only one item that you have displayed on your Springboard. If you are like me and suffer from digital OCD, and prefer everything to have its place and opt to organize everything, then this will also work. I personally have combined the features of “InfiniFolders” and “InfiniDock”, and just simply placed all of my folders on the added screens that “InfiniDock” permits me to use.

So once again, thank you to @chpwn for bringing us this wonderful little tweak. You can purchase this gem for $1.99 on Cydia today.

At the time of this article the tweak is still in public beta.

As for the author of this tweak, well, it’s not who you would imagine, but you may guess it from the icon style above….yes, that’s right, the team behind biteSMS have been hard at work on their new FREE offering SwitcherPlus.

This tweak allows you to activate the multitasking bar from the lockscreen and also allows you to customize a list of favorites that will permanently appear in the multitask bar.

The tweak also includes a very handy flashlight/torch app that activates the camera flash on the iPhone 4. I personally find this very handy and is currently the only “favorite” that I have assigned.

It comes complete with it’s own settings app where you can add/remove favorites, and change various other preferences.

Overall this is a great tweak and should get better as it approaches public release. You can give the beta a try for yourself by adding the beta repo

http://www.switcherplus.com/cydia/spbeta1.0

Please bare in mind though that this is still a beta and all bugs should be posted on their forum here
