Over the last month we have seen Geohot throw in the towel and now it seems that iH8snow has also given it up. iH8sn0w has not given up because it’s not fun anymore like Geohot has but because saurik (the brains behind Cydia) says not to ‘trust’ him.

iH8snow has since locked his tweeter account and closed his website.

We’re not to sure if this is a heat of the moment thing or if iH8snow has really gone but in my opinion is that he will be back.

As soon as we know more we’ll keep you updated.

Let us know what you think about the whole thing in the comments below.

Now Limneos is a very clever man, and by that i mean he seems to have made a tweak that people have been wishing they had from the moment the iPhone was announced.

Limneos seems to have made a tweak that allows the whole Springboard to rotated to be shown in landscape. Now I for one am very excited about this. Not only will the icons move but the wallpaper behind the icons will move also.

Limneos tweeted me earlier today about the release date saying :

Soon, but definitely not before a week from now

I look forward to seeing this become available, no prices have been revealed as of yet but hopefully it will be free.

These details have kindly been sent to the dev-team to work on an unlock for us crazy iPhone Fans.

Musclenerd from the dev-team has confirmed the exploit does work and a release date for the unlock will come when the dev-team are ready.

With the Anouncment of the iPad yesterday came the release of the iPhone 3.2 SDK. One thing that has already been noted is the end of restrictions on apps that would normally be forced to depend on a WiFi connection.

This now paves the way for many apps such as Skype and other VoiP applications to finally release versions that can run on a 3G signal, rather than depending on WiFi.

For jailbroken users there has been a way around this for a while now in the form of 3GUnrestrictor, a paid app available from the Cydia store that allowed you to unrestrict apps on a per app basis.

This new move by Apple came to light yesterday when the makers of iCall, an App Store VoiP application, announced that they had now released their unrestricted version of their app.

This now means that the 3G iPad can be used to make phone calls when out of WiFi area. And it’s good news for non-jailbroken iPhone users too.

So after the whole team sat them selves in front of their PC / Mac in order to watch Apples ‘latest creation’ event there is only one thing to say and that is we’re disappointed.

So why are we disappointed well there was no iPhone news at all.

The biggest and only news at the event is that Apple have released a tablet as rumoured and their calling it the iPad.

Let me tell you a bit about the iPad then:

The iPad will have a 9.7 inch (diagonal) display.

Email

Photos

Video

Screen Rotation

Virtual Keyboard

Wifi

3G (added cost)

16GB, 32GB, 64GB Models.

Will play all iPhone / iPod App Store apps.

New App just for the iPad

Will have App Store and iTunes on it.

New App called iBook to allow downloading of digital books.

So all in all its a nice looking device. The iPad looks like a large 2G iPhone.

Pricing for the device will start at $499 for the Wifi 16GB model all the way up to the $829 for the Wifi/3G 64Gb model.

Wifi versions will ship in 60 days worldwide and the wifi / 3G models in 90 days.

So yeah Apple released a new device that looks great but alot of us are waiting for iPhone OS 4.0 which is long awaited. It’s disappointing that we didn’t get anything at all, and I’m sure that 4.0 rumors will now become more rife.

Keep your eyes out here and if we here any more iPhone 4.0 news we’ll let you know.

Rick Broida with CNet’s iPhone Atlas said Friday that he received an e-mail from a “prominent app developer” regarding an update to the iPhone operating system. “Just wanted to give you a heads up that we’ve submitted an updated app for the new iPhone OS 4.0 software,” the e-mail allegedly said.

Its was rumoured earlier this month that the 27th Jan event could see the release of the 4.0 firmware. Rumours have even stated that the new version of the SDK includes a “simulator” that makes it easy for developers to adapt to different screen resolutions.

This week, one rumor claimed that Apple has not issued any updates for the iPhone in some time because the next version has many tablet-related references that the company did not want to leak in advance of its planned unveiling.

Source info thanks to AppleInsider.

In the last few months we have seen the very first real threats to the iPhone surface. One of the first 2 to be discovered displayed an image of singer Rick Astley with the text “Ikee is never going to give you up” with Ikee being the hacker behind it.

Well the latest worm to be found is, unfortunately, slightly more malicious. Found only in the Netherlands so far, the hackers are targeting users on public wifi hotspots who are doing their online banking with ING.

As with all the worms so far, the hackers are exploiting the fact that jailbroken users have not changed the default SSH password from “alpine”.
When successful, the hackers are able to redirect the user to a fake webpage, cloned to look like that of their bank. The user being none the wiser will then sign into their account, not knowing that their details are being stolen by the hackers.

Even though these worms have so far been isolated to certain countries doesn’t mean they won’t spread, so it is VERY important to change your SSH root password NOW!!

Here are instructions on how to do this;

1.Install Mobile Terminal from Cydia
2.Open Terminal and type: su (and then enter)
3.Then type: alpine (don’t worry you wont see what you type)
4.Then type: passwd (and enter)
5.then type your new password (enter), and again to confirm (enter).

Thats it, your SSH password has now been changed, safeguarding you from all current iPhone attacks in circulation.

A not surprising update became available this week in Cydia for 3GUnrestrictor, a very useful app that tricks apps into thinking they are on wifi rather than 3G or Edge etc.
We were expecting this due to My3G being released last week which boasts extra functionality.
With version 2.0 of 3GUnrestrictor comes the ability to have it alert you when an app is checking whether it is on wifi or not. This is particularly useful as before it was a little hit and miss and probably saw most people unrestricting ALL of their apps just in case they missed one that actually needed it.
A toggle is also added to SBSettings so that you can disable it all-together if you find that it’s just too slow on 3G.
We have seen quite a few instances like this recently with long serving apps being outdone by new ones, forcing the developers to “stand and deliver”, and bring the same or better functionality in the apps we know and love.

Last week Saurik (Author of Cydia) released a new “tool” called Cydget.

Now Cydget is not so much of an app but more of a Management tool for your lockscreen.

So what does Cydget actually do then if its not an app you may ask, well heres the answer.

Cydget allows you to have different lockscreen apps without the need of “winterboard”.

The tool installs itself in the main settings app of your iPhone and allows you to manage your diffent lockscreens from it. You can choose which lockscreens that you want to work and what order they are in/show up. To get from lockscreen to lockscreen all you need to do in press your home button while your lockscreen is showing and then it will change to the next one.

Cydget comes with one main lockscreen “gadget” pre-installed called Cydialer. Cydialer allows you to make calls directly from your lockscreen, it does this by pulling the information including the contacts picture directly from your favorites list of the phone app and displays them in true cover flow style.

I truly believe Cydget is an awesome tool and with extra “gadgets” appearing on Cydia daily for it, possibilities are endless. Some “gadgets” have been released already include:

Locklight – torch straight from the lockscreen

New Years Countdown – I think you can work that out

Smoking – Works out how many years of life you have lost and how much money you have spent smoking

Here is what Saurik said about Cydget.

Cydget provides a comprehensive replacement for WinterBoard Lock Widgets, allowing developers and web designers to take control of the lock screen using either native code or HTML with JavaScript and Cycript, allowing flexible access to Objective-C.

Like WinterBoard Themes, Cydgets are configured using a reorder-able list. Go to “Settings” then “Cydget” to activate, deactivate, and organize.

An example Cydget is included to demonstrate the technology: show a random picture from your camera roll.

Some of Cydget’s core benefits:
- configuration allows HTML scrolling
- multiple Cydgets can be rotated
- they stop running when screen dims
- Cycript embedding for library calls

When Apple boast that there is an app for just about everything, they aren’t wrong. If you thought you had seen it all you would be wrong.

We have all seen and used apps that make use of the iPhones built in microphone, but all have been operated by blowing INTO the microphone to either create sounds or play games etc.

Well a new app “blew” into the App Store late last week called Blower. It is the first of it’s kind and frankly a little unbelievable until you see/use it for yourself.

On opening the app you are presented with a speed meter and an on/off switch above a fan that looks similar to one you would find if you stripped down an iMac. On switching on the fan you get a very loud noise emitted from the speaker at the bottom of the iPhone, and the speed meter jumps up to full power.

The crazy thing is that air is actually blown out through the speaker, obviously due to intense vibrations, but air none-the-less.

In the video demo below you can see that you are able to blow out candles using this app which is nothing short of……USELESS, not to mention extremely lazy. Regardless of how ridiculous this apps uses may be, it’s still pretty cool to see.

It is available in the App Store for £0.59 ($0.99)
