Grooveshark has made it’s way back on to the iPhone and iPad, thanks to an all new mobile-friendly HTML5 Web App that the company has built from scratch, this means that there will be no Adobe flash required, it is just HTML5 and lets you stream music across various platforms.

The mobile-friendly HTML5 Web App supports these platforms, iOS (both iPad and iPhone including iPod touch as well), Android 2.3+, Blackberry Playbook, and the HP TouchPad.

Grooveshark was released into the Apple AppStore back in August 2010, but it didn’t last long, because a few hours later on the same day the Grooveshark team had received a letter from Apple basically saying that they had received a complaint from the Universal Music Group UK, due to that the company decided to remove the app from the ITunes AppStore.

After that, the Grooveshark team decided to release the free-service app into the Jailbreak world without being under Apple’s command and you could have the app on your iPhone by going in to Cydia and downloading it (and you still can) but if you haven’t got a Jailbroken device there was no way you could get it, until now.

Grooveshark is a music streaming service that allows users to search for, stream, and upload music you like that will be played instantly on your device or you could add it in to a playlist, which brings all the music you want to listen to and puts it in to a group of music for you to listen anytime and anywhere. For unlimited access and no ads on mobile, you can get Grooveshark Anywhere for $9 per month.

Grooveshark is one of the many streaming services, like Spotify and Pandora (US only) that allow you to stream music instantly without the need to download it first.

If you check out MyGreatPhone and MyGreatTablet everyday you know that recently Amazon had launched a HTML5 web app for the iPad that allows customers to purchase Kindle ebooks, Apple didn’t let Amazon offer purchase links for ebooks in its native iOS app because it violated the App Store’s guidelines.

You can have access to the HTML5 web app at http://html5.grooveshark.com/ on your mobile device.

We’ve all seen the footage of Siri running perfectly on the iPhone 4 and iPod Touch, but it seems that at the moment the procedure used to port Siri won’t be released. There’s a couple of reasons for this, as highlighted by the guys at Chpwn Blog:

The first reason is down to our old friend Mr Copyright. Copyright laws state that just because a bit of data is available quite freely on the internet, it doesn’t mean that you have the right to distribute it, without the correct licence. So this means that all the files, images and codes associated with Siri cannot legally be freely shared. The only way you can legally install Siri is on an iPhone 4S which already has the programme, so is a little redundant. The guys at Chpwn Blog explain the copyright issues in more detail:

In the context of Siri, this means that the resource files, images, and code that makes up Siri cannot be freely shared. These frameworks and plugins that work together to build Siri are not included on other iOS builds besides the ones running on the iPhone 4S. Therefore, these files must be copied from a running iPhone 4S, or from the iPhone 4S’s firmware (.ipsw) file. The first method requires you to own an iPhone 4S to copy the files from, so it is not useful for most people: if you already own an iPhone 4S, you already have Siri. The issue with the second method is more technical: the firmware files are distributed encrypted, and we do not yet have the decryption key to access the Siri files inside of the iPhone 4S firmware file.

The second reason why Siri isn’t currently available on the iPhone 4 is down to jailbreaking. To successfully port Siri to an iPhone 4 you need a jailbroken iPhone 4S to access all the information and files of Siri. As we all know the jailbreak for iPhone 4s isn’t publicly available yet (and we’re not too sure when it will be), so being able to find the information needed is pretty tough.

However, on the plus side it’s highly likely that Siri will be available to port to the iPhone 4 once a jailbreak for the 4S is publicly available and any copyright issues are sorted. For now we can just wet our appetites with a video of Siri in all it’s glory on the iPod Touch.

What we’re hearing is speculation that iMessage will be integrated into the OS X iChat application on Mac. There’s also rumour that it could be released as a stand alone product – either way it’ll be an integral new product for Mac users and help to bring Apple products together. The iMessage application on Mac will mean that Mac users can connect with iPads, iPhones and iPod Touches, all which run iOS5.

Here’s a video of what iMessage could look like running on Mac:

When Apple releases a firmware, big or small, developers alike, whether it is a AppStore developer or a Cydia developer, need to update their releases to bring them up-to-date and make them compatible with the current firmware. If they don’t, then the iDevices they are installed on may not work properly, and may cause you to require a restore to fix the problems. Well, a well known Cydia developer named @chpwn started updating all of his jailbreaking tweaks from Cydia in order to make them all compatible with iOS 5.

Here’s some info for you if you’re having any issues or problems from using the tweaks released by @chpwn:

Feel free to send me a support email from Cydia if you have any issues or questions, for paid products. I try and respond within a few hours if I’m not sleeping.

Here’s a list of @chpwn’s tweaks, and updates which tell you which are compatible or not compatible with iOS5, as well as their current status:

Paid Extensions

Gridlock: Full iOS 5 support.
VoiceActivator: Full iOS 5 support.
Infinidock: Does not work. Development status: investigating best way to upgrade.
Infiniboard: Does not work. Development status: basic functionality works, but buggy.
Infinifolders: Does not work. Development status: basic functionality works, but buggy.

Free Extensions

IconSupport: Full iOS 5 support. (Via @ashikase, who did the iOS 5 work: thanks!)
Webscrollian: Full iOS 5 support.
No Page Dots: Full iOS 5 support.
MobileVolumeSound: Full iOS 5 support.
No Bookmarks: Full iOS 5 support.
Five Icon Switcher: Full iOS 5 support.
Full WebClips: Full iOS 5 support.
Internalizer: Full iOS 5 support.
No Folder Badges: Full iOS 5 support.
Empty Folder Icons: Unknown. Let me know?
Colloquy Tab Complete: Unknown. Let me know?
Covert: Does not work, but similar functionality is included in iOS 5.
ListLauncher: Does not work.
Switcherscape: Does not work.
AppSlide: Does not work.

I may or may not be updating this but @chpwn himself is updating it day by back here.

At the top is just @chpwn’s tweaks, but I have also found a full list of compatible Cydia tweaks from here, you can also edit the list via Google Docs, if necessary.

Battery life is something which we all get a little stressy about. One minute you’ve got 70% left and the next minute you look you’re down to 10% – cue running around looking for a charger. Now there’s two possible reasons for this battery loss, either a) you really have used your phone an awful lot or b) you’ve been pranked with FakePercent.

FakePercent is a pretty cool jailbreak tweak which you can use to fool your friends into thinking they either have no battery life left when they have loads left; or that they have 100% battery left when in fact they’re in the red. It’s a funny prank but it can only be done on jailbroken iPhones, so there’s a chance your friend (victim) might be smart enough to clock on straight away.

There’s a video below showing FakePercent in action and if you want to download it, it’s available on Cydia’s BigBoss repo.

Recently, Japanese blog Macotakara has let the cat out of the bag and alerted everyone to the fact that both Foxconn and Pegatron have begun the assembly of the iPhone 5/iPhone 4[s]. As it has been reported, the workload will mostly be loaded on to Foxconn, with their factory taking 85% of the production responsibility, while Pegatron only needs to make up the other 15% of all assembly. The other tidbit of noteworthy news is the fact that after these devices are assembled, they are not, as they normally are, going to be packaged and stockpiled to be ready for shipping. This is due to the fact that Apple does not have a fully functional or working version of iOS5 ready for them to pre-load onto the pre-assembled machines. At the time of this writing, there have currently been 7 revisions of the iOS 5.0 beta released, which is the second highest amount ever released for the iOS beta program, the first being the transition from iOS 1 to iOS 2, with iOS 2.0 receiving 8 beta revisional releases. With that being said, it is no surpise that Apple is running just a little bit behind schedule, especially since they promise a full 200+ new features in iOS 5, making this most likely the most significant upgrade that iOS has ever seen.

Also worthy of note, because all of the focus will be to worldwide distribution, it is also expected that the Asian markets will not be receiving their own iPhone 5/iPhone 4[s] until “at least” a few more weeks after the initial launch, so it looks as if that launch date will be pushed back a little bit as well. As always, keep tuning in and we will notify you as new information becomes available.

And reported all over the internet, @MuscleNerd of the iPhone_devteam have already jailbroken most iDevices as of today to run on the newest version of iOS 5.0, beta 7. While there have been many times I have gone record in the past, criticizing the actions of the IDT, this season they seem to have been pretty much on top of their game, with each iOS 5.0 revision beta being jailbroken in seemingly record time, catering to the masses, and increasing the speed with each jailbreak. So, kudos to the IDT, you boys and girls deserve it.

In a tweet released by @MuscleNerd himself, it reads as follows:

Today’s IOS5b7 can be JB with last night’s redsn0w b7 http://t.co/qYExhrP but point it at b6 IPSW…annoying off-by-1 now

Using this world-famous tool, it should be noted that there is no solution for ow yet if you are looking to jailbreak UNtethered, as there is only currently a tethered jailbreak method available at this time. The only main difference between tethered vs UNtethered is that on a tethered jailbreak, any time your iDevice restarts for whatever reason (installing a tweak, running out of battery, etc.) you must be near a computer in order to run redsn0w again to re-jailbreak it. While this may be inconvenient, it is the only current method available, so for now, this is just a casualty of war.

Keep your eyes posted, for as always, we will keep you updated to any further news associated to iDevices.

As of today, August 31st, 2011, Apple has released what will most probably be the last “developers” build or beta of their popular iOS mobile operating system. As usual, you should not upgrade if you are relying on a jailbreak or an unlock, but for those of you who are interested in such things, there is a fix for you out there as well. Keep your eyes peeled for that article.

With iOS 5.0 GM predicted to be released next month at some point in September/2011, this is the beta that most people have been waiting for. It is likely to contain multiple security updates, fixes, and the like. Many are also expecting even more stability, and an improved (a/k/a “bug free”) user experience. While many people, including me, are too apprehensive to update via the “OTA” (over-the-air) method, most people are not, and here is a screenshot below, courtesy of RedmondPie.com, of what that OTA Update will look like. You can view this area of iOS by going into Settings>General>Software Update:

There are also other ways to instal this update, for example, by doing it the old-fashioned way and heading over to the Apple Developer Portal and downloading the appropriate firmware file for your device, and installing through iTunes, but ultimately, the choice is yours. Other additional notes that should be paid attention to are that after you update your iOS 5b7 firmware, in order to sync your device to iTunes, you are going to actually have to update iTunes as well, so that everything is simpatico.

Has posted a job listing looking for someone who can fill the role of “iOS QA Location Engineer”, and the job location will be in Cupertino, California, at the Apple headquarters. This seems to be Apple’s attempt to beef up the existing “location” based services, as the job title obviously indicates.

While it pays no one any good to speculate, this could have very high insinuations, such as Apple being interested in possibly creating their own version of turn-by-turn directions and/or a navigation system/service of some kind, specifically catering to iOS (iPod, iPhone, and iPad devices) only. And, at the time of this writing, Apple currently offers their GPS services for free, so while there is no reason to suspect any changes on that front in the future, I wouldn’t rule anything out.

Courtesy of AppleInsider.com

Also according to AppleInsider, this comes hot on the heels of Apple posting a number of listings looking for people to work on it’s “Maps” application. This is as recently as March, 2011, and in some of those listings, the exact wording was used as follows: “radically improve” both “Map” for the iPhone and location-based services. Also something noteworthy, in 2009, Apple acquired Google Maps competitor, “Placebase”, and even further in 2010, they also acquired the company “Poly9”. Since iOS 3.2, they have also begun to use their own database for location-based services for the “Maps” application, and they have made it clear that they are moving away from databases related to Google and/or Skyhook Wireless.

This does not look like it will be released in a near-release of iOS, but if there is one thing that Apple is known for, it is their ability to see the future and plan accordingly, many times a surprising amount of time before those ideas come into fruition. Time will tell.

The point to this update is to fix the security hole that enabled Comex to Jailbreak the iPad 2 with JailbreakMe 3.0

it is urged that everybody saves their SHSH blobs and DOES NOT update to 4.3.4 especially if you use a iPad 2.

Again this update will kill JailbreakMe 3.0.

More info about 4.3.4 will be updated her as soon as we know more.

Earlier today, on Saturday, July 02, 2011, the much-anticipated jailbreak for the iPad 2 was leaked out into the wild by someone who was not @comex. With my role for MyGreatiPhone.com being their “controversy writer”, I figured that this article was right up my alley, and I will explain why in a few moments. First, let’s get to the heart of the story. This has been sourced by multiple, reputable places on the internet such as www.9to5mac.com and www.RazorianFly.com. So, here we go:

For the past few months, @comex has been working to bring the iPad 2 jailbreak to users. In this process, he had selected a few people to “beta test” this jailbreak. From what has been gathered, this particular jailbreak will yet again use another PDF exploit, which is the same type of exploit that www.JailbreakMe.com 2.0 used to jailbreak most iDevices running iOS 4.0.1 and 4.1. It has been reported that this jailbreak will only work on certain iPad models, and that it is still not without bugs – for example, multiple sources have confirmed that attempting to use Safari is useless, as it continually crashes. Here is a quick video demonstrating the jailbreak, taken from the 9o5mac.com article:

Click here to view the embedded video.

And for a quick update, here is a screenshot of Cydia running on the WiFi iPad 2, running iOS 4.3, and bragging Cydia 1.1.2.

Now, on to the “controversy” part: I think that this is long over due. Ever since March 11, 2011, the iPad 2 has been available to the public. Ever since March 13, 2011, @comex has had his iPad 2 jailbroken. Now, let’s do the math – March to April, April to May, May to June, and now June to July…. thats a whopping FOUR [4] MONTHS that @comex has been sitting on this jailbreak. He is taking his sweet time to release this exploit, and that is simply UNACCEPTABLE.

I have similar issues with @MuscleNerd not bothering to release any new ultrasn0w unlocks ever since iOS baseband 01.59.00, which I believe was iOS 4.0.1, but don’t quote me on that. What does that mean? It means that anyone who DID NOT PURCHASE THE iPHONE 4 ON LAUNCH DAY IS SCREWED OUT OF AN UNLOCK SINCE JULY OF LAST YEAR. If they purchased the iPhone 4 after that, it will have come with a different iOS version pre-installed by Apple, thus installing an updated baseband, and thus negating the possibility to software unlock. Once again, this is simply UNACCEPTABLE, and I have always thought that the iCommunity should have spoken up about this.

I know that I have been using a lot of bolding and italicizing in this article, but I cannot stress enough how ridiculous this is. The entire iPhone dev_team is basically playing with people’s cellular experience While there is also the argument that “they do this for free!” and “they don’t owe us anything!” can be made by whiney, loyal little fanboys, these were the same fanboys who waited by patiently while the Chronic Dev_Team prepared greenp0is0n, only to have GeoHot sweep in, and in less than 2 days release a superior jailbreak. They lauded GeoHot, they praised him, and they donated. Oh, did they donate. But donations isn’t what this is about. The dev_team has made it clear they do not want money, and that they do this because it simply needs to be done. They do this out of the goodness of their hearts. Except, they have taken a vacation this year. Ever since GeoHot released his limera1n exploit, all the dev_team has done is update their jailbreak tools to use HIS EXPLOIT, and make sure that existing software it current and up to date.

Case-in-point: A new device is released. The iPad 2. GeoHot has not jailbroken it. So what do the dev_teams (Chronic this time) do? They stage some lame “competition” and invite GeoHot to join. A/K/A, do all the work for them so they can update their software too.

While this is not the opinion of MGiP.com, I personally think that @comex deserved this. It was only a matter of time until someone behind-the-scenes got sick and tired of watching him twiddle his thumbs and waste more time while inventing more excuses to not release the jailbreak.

Would I use this new iPad 2 jailbreak? No! I don’t even have an iPad 2, but I do know that beta software is buggy as hell. Especially since people have already reported multiple bugs in this specific jailbreak already. Would I wait for @comex? Yes, I would, but ONLY because I don’t like using an imperfect iDevice, it would ruin the user experience. Would I do it out of loyalty?

He has left us hanging for FOUR MONTHS, while he has enjoyed the jailbreak himself and given it to his friends. That’s not loyalty, thats exclusivity. Why would I show loyalty to someone who has more or less abandoned us, with promises of something that has no substance? Maybe his train of thought was that if he waited long enough, GeoHot would come swooping in, and give them what they need to update their software – an exploit that works.

I will not be showing you how or where to get this done. If anything, if you choose to still pursue this after reading this article, you can do so by watching the above-mentioned video. But the truth is, the risk is on you, and whatever you do to your iPad 2 is your sole responsibility. You’ve been warned. And patience is a virtue for a reason.

A MacRumors reader discovered the following statement on iTunes’ update page:

Or if your device has Automatic Download enabled for Apps, your updates will download to your device without having to sync.

The capability doesn’t exits on IOS yet. At the moment you have to sync your iDevice to iTunes to get the update I think this will all change in ios 5. What I mean is that the AppStore on your iDevice will Automatic download the updates in iOS 5 without you knowing.

I have 1 thing that I hate about the automatic downloading the updates is when it is a update I like to see what’s new in the update. Apple might have a on and off switch toggle in IOS5.

What do you think about automatic downloading the Apps on your iDevice please leave a comment below.

As many of you may have noticed, Cydia is having some massive problems. As reported yesterday, Apple has decided to block all of Amazon from gaining any access to gs.Apple.com, which is the location where Saurik stores all of Cydia’s SHSH blobs for all iDevices that have selected the “Make Life Easier” option. Unfortunately though, at the current time, there really isn’t much that can be done, with the exception of waiting it out and seeing what else goes down. However, here, I will take a moment to express some of my opinions, and suggestions to avoid this in the future so that panic can be avoided. Before I do though, I want to take the opportunity to express that according to @Saurik himself, he claims that the best thing to do is wait. Some common symptoms right now involve the fact that when you open up Cydia, at the top, there are currently NO “SHSH Saved” notifications, and when you tap the option to manage your account and view all of your purchased installable packages, absolutely nothing comes up. I have tested this myself on an iPhone 4, and iPhone 3G[S], an iPhone 3G, and an iPod Touch 2G MC Model. This is not working for any of the devices mentioned. Now, here are some quick images. This is the tweet from @Saurik himself in regards to the problems occurring with Amazon’s EC2 services:

And also, this is what started all the hoopla yesterday. It is a rather cryptic and brief tweet by @chpwn, conceited and pious lackey of the iPhone_dev_team who has also worked closely on the assistance of the development of Cydia:

Now, even further than that, here is a quick screenshot of what the Cydia homepage should look like at the moment, with no SHSH notifications present:

Also, according to @Rene818 over at www.i-enthusiast.com, who originally broke the story, he received a text message directly from @Sauik, in response to @chpwn’s above tweet. The text message has been transcribed as follows:

“While that is true., my signature server proxy is not on ec2, so I have no clue what people are on about…”

Now, with that being said, below is the official statement from Amazon, released earlier today:

We’d like to provide additional color on what were working on right now (please note that we always know more and understand issues better after we fully recover and dive deep into the post mortem).

A networking event early this morning triggered a large amount of re-mirroring of EBS volumes in US-EAST-1. This re-mirroring created a shortage of capacity in one of the US-EAST-1 Availability Zones, which impacted new EBS volume creation as well as the pace with which we could re-mirror and recover affected EBS volumes. Additionally, one of our internal control planes for EBS has become inundated such that it’s difficult to create new EBS volumes and EBS backed instances.

We are working as quickly as possible to add capacity to that one Availability Zone to speed up the re-mirroring, and working to restore the control plane issue. We’re starting to see progress on these efforts, but are not there yet. We will continue to provide updates when we have them.

That isn’t the end of the article though, folks. This is the point where I recommend a few things. First things first, I can’t stress this enough, familiarize yourself with TinyUmbrella! We have written numerous guides on the topic, and it has the nifty little feature of saving all of your SHSH blobs LOCALLY, which means that all of the files are saved ON YOUR COMPUTER. This eliminates the NEED for Amazon’s EC2 to access gs.Apple.com in the first place. It also gives you the power to downgrade or re-install any given iOS firmware in situations like this, where for whatever reason, @Saurik’s servers are down or otherwise unavailable.

Further than that, there is also a way to save your SHSH blobs directly on your iDevice, and store them VIA E-MAIL if you need to. When it becomes available again, simply go into Cydia, and download the application entitled “SHSHit”. It has quite a few options, such as recognition of your Unique Chip ID (UCID), and it allows you to save your SHSH blobs one firmware at a time, or if Cydia has been saving your SHSH blobs, all at once by downloading them directly from Cydia’s servers. Once you have them, as I stated above, you can then simply e-Mail them to yourself and transfer them to your PC, and then import them directly into TinyUmbrella. Here are some screenshots of the app “SHSHit” in progress:

So as you can see, applications like this are extremely valuable in the event that things go wrong with Cydia. What seems to be the best advice is this: Do NOT panic right away. You are not the only one going through this. It seems that the entire whole of Cydia users are going through this ordeal with you. In time, it will be fixed, one way or another. As @Saurik has suggested, have some patience, take a breath, calm down a bit, and give it some time. It may be frustrating, but be aware that the problem is being worked on. We will keep you updated, as always. Just have a little bit of faith.

As of the writing of this article, @ih8sn0w, author of the famous Windows hacking tool “sn0wbreeze” has posted the decryption keys to the newly released iOS 4.3.1 firmware. Now, at first, I’m sure that most of you really don’t care what this means, mainly due to the fact that it’s not very clear what it does actually mean. I know that I personally had to do some quick research as to why this is such a good thing, but more or less, to put it simply, successfully decryption allows the user to access the ramdisks on the iDevice, thus allowing him to modify or manipulate the otherwise strictly guarded system files.

According to @ih8sn0w, he claims that it wasn’t even difficult to decrypt this iOS firmware, and he feels that Apple is beginning to make it too easy.

All I know is that despite the mocking the devs are doing at the simplicity of this, all I can say that I’m glad that they can begin the process of attempting to jailbreak and unlock the iDevices. I mean, really, seriously, some iPhone 4 users have been waiting for a new baseband unlock since what, 4.0.1? Jesus…..

Feel free to talk amongst yourselves in the forums, or sound off in the comments below!

For those of you who are waiting for the new 4.3 untethered jailbreak, guess what? As usual, you’re going to be waiting even longer. See, this entire topic really grinds my gears, because honestly, I remember back in the days when the original iPhone and even the iPhone 3G were released, you would have a new iOS released on a Monday for example, and by that Friday, there were new jailbreak tools available. Now, as we have previously seen, a new iOS will be released on, for example, March 02, 2011, and the jailbreaks for that iOS version will be released sometime in the middle-to-end of April, 6-8 weeks later. I personally think that this is unacceptable, but that’s just my opinion.

I will however, applaud the efforts of those involved with the actual technical process of this. I know the work they do is not easy. While some teams prefer accepting donations for their work, others are completely against them and make it known. Regardless, in THIS case, the hope for an untethered jailbreak lies with previously unknown hacker on Twitter, @i0n1c. According to @Chronic, the lead dev of the Chronic Dev Team, @i0n1c is working independently.

And, even further than that, with the “Pwn2Own” annual event exploit being found in Safari, as per experience, @i0n1c is holding out his exploit/jailbreak until AFTER Apple will release their undoubtedly in-progress, incremental upgrade of the current iOS, bringing it to iOS 4.3.1. So NOW, we will have to wait until after 4.3.1 is released. Wonderful.

What are your thoughts on these new and frustrating developments? Do you agree? Disagree? Don’t care? Sound off in the comments below, our forums, or even on Twitter! We look forward to hearing where you guys stand on this.

Its just landed, iOS 4.3 Beta 2 has been added for developers to download.

This is a second fast release for Apple and we are unsure what the new features are in this Beta. As soon as we know though will be the first to pass on the information.

One thing is mentioned though and that is that the Multi-Tasking Gesture will not be in the final release of iOs 4.3.

Here is what is said in the Beta 2 release notes.

This beta release contains a preview of new multitasking gestures for iPad. You can use four or five fingers to pinch to the Home Screen, swipe up to reveal the multitasking bar, and swipe left or right between apps. This feature will not be enabled in iOS 4.3 for customers, but we are providing this preview to gather input on how these gestures work with your apps.

As always Beta releases are only for developers.

What do you think about the Multi-tasking gestures not being included int he final release? Let us know in the comments below.

As always DO NOT UPDATE if you want to keep your jailbreak or need the unlock provided by Ultrasn0w.

As you can see the only thing this update contains is a fix for the PDF vulnerability used by Jailbreakme.com, this means that if you update, you can no longer use this jailbreak method.

Please back up your SSH blobs NOW before it is too late!! It may even already be too late.

Remember you are missing NOTHING by not updating to this firmware!

Thanks…
