Merry Christmas from the iPhone Devteam and the Chronic devteam it would seem! After Pod2g sent them his jailbreak, they have put it into redsn0w 0.9.10 and PwnageTool, and the chronic devteam put it into a Cydia package (the same set of exploits is in all three).

This is for Non A5 devices only, so you must be on a iPhone3GS, iPhone4, iPhone4-CDMA, iPad1, iPod touch 3G, iPod touch 4G, running iOS 5.0.1.

Download RedSnow 0.9.10b1 on Mac or Windows (run as administrator).

As mentioned earlier, @pod2g has spent months working on all the exploits and tricks in this untether, and many of you may be wondering how you can send donations. Although the iPhone devteam itself doesn’t take donations, we thought it was appropriate to provide a link at the end of the redsn0w run for you to more easily donate directly to @pod2g if you wish (alternatively, you can go right here). There’s a link in the Cydia package for donating to the chronic devteam for the Cydia version of @pod2g’s untether.

@pod2g is now looking for a way to extend this to A5 devices. Because those devices cannot use geohot’s limera1n exploit to inject the untether, they require exploits above and beyond those used for this release. Keep following pod2g on twitter or his blog for any progress reports!

Well done, Pod2G!

This spells out bad times ahead for HTC.

What’s happened is the United States International Trade Commission have ruled that HTC were infringing on an Apple patent in a number of their handsets running Android 1.6 to 2.2 – so the handsets effected include the Droid Incredible, Evo 4G, Nexus One and many others.

The reason Apple have sued HTC is all over clickable links in messages, such as SMS/TXT, and/or e-Mail. Basically when you receive a text message that contains a phone number, address, URL or any piece of usable data, it is automatically highlighted, underlined and turns tapable in that message. The Apple patent not only covers this idea but also the interaction you can have, for example by tapping on the selection allows you to activate it. Therefore, by having this feature on a number of their smartphones HTC was engaging in infringement, and as expected, Apple is not too happy about it.

However, there are ways for HTC to resolve this, and still be able to sell their handsets – by either removing the infringing technology, or implementing it in a different manner – the second option being the most likely, as usable links in messages are a pretty important feature to most smartphone users.

What’s concerning though, is that this could really set off the war between Apple and Google/Android, and I don’t think Apple needs any more trouble, especially as they’re already engaged in a bitter blood-battle with Samsung over their tablets which Apple claim are almost direct rip-offs of the iPad. Keep checking back here, as we will continue to cover how this goes down.

iTunes Match, Apples “in the cloud” backup storage for your music, has gone live for the UK and other countries.

Here’s how it works. “iTunes determines which songs in your collection are available in the iTunes Store. Any music with a match is automatically added to iCloud. Since there are more than 20 million songs in the iTunes Store, most of your music is probably already in iCloud. All you have to upload is what iTunes can’t match. Which is much faster than starting from scratch. Once your music is in iCloud, you can stream and store it on any of your devices. Even better, all the music iTunes matches plays back from iCloud at 256-Kbps AAC DRM-free quality — even if your original copy was of lower quality.”

There are a few teething problems but it’s slowly starting to work (mine took an hour to actually let me start syncing my library).

It is available for £21.99 a year and you can activate it by going to the iTunes Store and clicking the iTunes Match link on the right hand side.

Few users yesterday reported they were getting refunded and that it wasn’t meant to be released, yet today it arrives for me.
Any issues? or is it all grand? Let us know how it is for you!

The video shows an iPod Touch 3rd Gen jailbroken on 5.0. This comes after his announcement early last month that he had found an exploit.

Like all authentic jailbreak video demo’s, it goes like this;

Show firmware version in Settings.app

Open Cydia and let it load

Reboot device

Open Cydia and let it load again

This shows that this is an authentic untethered jailbreak.

Click here to view the embedded video.

According to pod2g his method does NOT rely on Charlie Millers code signing vulnerability found a few months back. However as this is the first public untethered jailbreak, it will be interesting to see if Apple uses the incremental update functionality to kill this straight away.

@i0n1c @0xcharlie hello. No it does not rely on it. Next step do the same on iOS 5.0.1. Should be quick.

— pod2g (@pod2g) December9, 2011

If you want this jailbreak when it is released you currently need to be on iOS 5.0, but pod2g has said it should be easy to do the same for 5.0.1 and maybe 5.1? No word yet on which devices this jailbreak will cover.

We will update you as and when it is released publicly. This news comes just as comex publicly confirmed on Twitter that he no longer works on jailbreaks, which isn’t that surprising as he recently took an internship at Apple.

Even before the public release of iOS 5.0 it was known that Apple was to make downgrading much more difficult. You can find more info here.

Although using TinyUmbrella and Cydia users have been able to save their SHSH, up to now they have not been able to do anything useful with them, until now.

In a tweet from Musclenerd a couple of hours ago, the hacker announced that a new version of Redsn0w will soon be released:

Upcoming redsn0w release makes both TinyUmbrella and Cydia blob saves useful for 5.0+ (1st verifies, then stitches)

A tweet after this gives a little more away and hints at the possible ability to downgrade from a 5.0 firmware.

For time being, please just use most recent TU to save 5.0.1 blobs+APTicket…redsn0w will do the rest, should you need to restore.

It literally revolves around 4 tabs, which are discribed at http://fly.twitter.com, to help give users a better Twitter expereice across all the devices it can be used with.

Firstly, “Home”. Described by Twitter, ‘Home’ is where you view Tweets from the people you have chosen to follow. It’s your personal collection of Tweets, featuring the latest news, commentary and information from the sources you care about.

Secondly “Connect”. The new Connect section is where you get in on the conversation. It’s the place to see who has followed or mentioned you, retweeted or favorited one of your Tweets. Connect is your way to keep the conversation flowing. There are two tabs, Interaction and Mentions. Interactions is everything that happens to your tweets, may they be favourites or RTs, they’ll appear here. Mentions is your mentions.

Thirdly, “Discover”. Discover lets you tap into a stream of useful and entertaining information, customized just for you.
When you use Discover, you’ll see results reflecting your interests—based on your current location, what you follow and what’s happening in the world. As you use Twitter more, Discover gets even better at serving up more content just for you.

Fourthly, “Me”. This speaks for itself really. The new profile section puts you and your interests front and center.
Others can Tweet directly to you and view your lists, favorites, followers, photos and more. The Me tab is also where you can stay current on your direct message conversations.
The Me tab is your opportunity to introduce yourself to the world.

And no matter where you are in the app, The tweet button is always in the top right hand corner.

Update the app on your device or head here to download it!

TIPS:
Find Direct Messages on the “ME” Tab. Want faster access? Swipe the “ME” Tab upwards.
Swipe the “ME” tab to the left to change accounts quicker.

When viewing any website through the inline browser, clicking on any Twitter link (@username/status) will open to that person or status instantly within the app rather than opening Safari or continuing through the browser.

Tweetdeck update will be discussed separately, if the iOS app has been updated.

Let us know what you think in the comments! Me? Personally I like this update.
Everything is simple and easy to see. Yes you see less tweets and I’ll like to make my font smaller, but as an app to use it’s just nice and easy and everything makes sense.
It’s a change. No one likes change. But embrace it. Give it a chance. You’ll understand it too.

So far the release notes aren’t giving much away, at least not in laymen’s terms anyway, but we hear it contains bug fixes and developer enhancements to the dictation API.

As always the beta release is intended for developers and test devices only. It is also noted that this beta update is NOT available through the OTA update server.

iH8Sn0w has also mentioned this on twitter;

ha! Looks like today’s 5.1 BETA ramdisk are NOT encrypted.

This does NOT mean a jailbreak soon, it is just for informational purposes

We will update you when we find out the exact changes in this release.

Aside from the “Dark Knight” pun referenced in the header, this is anything but serious, this is amazing. It seems that now, every time I turn around, there is a new hack or tweak being released in regards to Siri. Just tonight alone, there have been three Siri-related posts on MyGreatiPhone.com, and I have a feeling this isn’t going to be stopping any time soon.

What can be said about Siri that hasn’t been said before? You know what it is. You know what it does. You know what limitations it has. Well, maybe you don’t know as much as you think you do. For example, as of tonight, November 27, 2011, did you know that some pretty important features of Siri are working on older iDevices, such as the iPhone 4, and the iPhone 3G[s]? Yeah. Exactly. The hack I am talking about is called “Siri0us”, and it can be found in Cydia. What it does, is it basically brings the “dictation” aspect of Siri to the older devices, allowing you to start talking now, instead of typing. This is the feature of Siri I have mostly used since I got my hands on my iPhone 4[s], because it literally eliminates the need to type, if you properly know how to speak to Siri, and use proper verbal dictation methods. It truly is a “game changer” in regards to how you use your iDevice. You can view an article I have previously written about this here.

While I might not be enthusiastic about porting Siri over to older iDevices, I can’t help but like the fact that so many people are putting in the time and effort to customizing what Siri can do. Developer Eric Day, also known as @smartype on twitter, has released this tweak, and as to be expected on “buggy” software (the original Siri port), there are some things you should look out for, but I’ll get into that in a second. First things first, here is how you can get it: You have to add a source repo in Cydia. You do that by going into Cydia, and tapping on “Manage”, then tap on “Sources”. After that, you tap on “Edit” in the upper right corner, then “Add” in the upper left. Then, you simply type in the repo address, in this case, http://apt.if0rce.com (with a zero, not an “o”), and let it populate. Voila, the hard part is over, now, you just look for and install “Siri0us”, and enjoy, because it IS damned awesome to have the ability to talk to your device now. You will also need to always be connected to the internet somehow for the Siri microphone to show up, so you’ll need either a 3G or Wifi connection for this to work, Edge simply won’t cut it.

AUTHOR’S NOTE: “Siri0us” is ad-supported. However, there is a way to download it ad-free. This has caused a rather interesting debate amongst the authors and editors of MGiP, especially in regards to how legal this is. You can read below in the disclaimer about the legal issues going on. Eric Day successfully got this working, and brought it out to people. But he also put advertisements in the software he is illegally distributing. He is literally profiting from technology he does not have rights to. Someone else out there created a version of “Siri0us” that was ad-free. Since we do not condone piracy, we have removed that link, however, it begs the question “Is stealing from a thief morally wrong?” Robbing Eric of his right to earn money from something that isn’t his seems fair to me, but we will be sticking to our “anti-piracy” guns on this one. You can find the ad-free version by conducting a simple google search for “SiriForYou“.

PLEASE NOTE: As with all tweaks, we are simply relaying information that you may find useful. You do this at your own discretion, and hold no blame on any of the staff of MyGreatiPhone.com for providing this information to you. You assume all risk that potential damage may occur to your iDevice. Another thing you should know is that this program is technically illegal. By that, the Dictation function does not rely on Apple’s servers, or obtaining any UDID keys, but it does rely on Nuance’s dictation technology, of which Developer Eric Day does not have any licenses to distribute with his tweak, and he has not been given the right to distribute their software/technology legally. So go into this with your eyes open.

And speaking of risk, let me close with the issues that users have experienced. While the vast majority of users will not experience any issues, the one issue that I have been hearing has been an “infinite respring loop”. Do not fret! There is no reason to panic! You simply connect your iDevice to your computer – DO NOT RESTORE – and open up your SSH program of choice. Locate this file: /System/Library/PrivateFrameworks/AssistantServices.framework, and you delete it. It will respring, and now you can experience the best part of Siri. Have fun, and happy tweaking.

Someone has successfully hacked Siri to control their television, and they are going around town, showing everyone else how to do it too. As we reported last week, hacker Pete Lamonica, a.k.a @plamoni on twitter, had managed to get Siri to control his thermostat, and control the temperature in his living quarters. The reason his discovery/effort was such a success was because it allowed developers and programers to open up the constraints that Apple had placed on Siri, and allow the personal assistant to perform commands and functions not otherwise sanctioned by the fruit company. This is precisely one of those functions I had speculated about. While not specifically, I did point out that this breakthrough could potentially bring about the end of civilization as we know it (read: Skynet) and even the most complex of chain events start somewhere, usually with something simple. With that being said…

Siri can control the temperature in your home. She can start your car. Now she can control your entertainment. Hacker Hjaltij (YouTube handle) has programmed Siri to use rather complex commands on the Siri Proxy Server and Plex, a multimedia player designed for Intel-powered Mac computers. And for those of you doubting, here is the video that he posted on YouTube:

Click here to view the embedded video.

He claims that it is a “quick hack”, but after viewing how quickly Siri can tun in to TV shows using only the method of dictation/voice commands, it is still rather impressive, “quick” or not. While this may not seem “revolutionary” to most of you, this is a giant breakthrough, especially since it seems to be only the beginning of some crazy-awesome things to come. And, as always, we give credit where credit is due, so kudos to 9to5mac.com for breaking this incredible story.

Last night P0sixninja tweeted a few times about a blog post that he was going to post on Greenpois0n.com, and then this morning that post was published.

The post in question talks about a new tool that the Chronic Dev team have created called ‘Chronic Dev Crash Reporter’ and how it will help the team develop further Jailbreak tools.

First of all you may be wondering what has happened to the 5 exploits that @P0sixninja said the team had back in September when they spoke at a conference, well it seems that these have been ‘lost’ to use a better word…

Unfortunately, that announcement was a bit premature, because in the subsequent weeks, Apple found & patched a (critical) few of those exploits, between the beta versions we used for testing and the final release of iOS5 on October 12

When they say “bit premature” I think they are certainly right, I believe that if they did have these then nothing should have been said at all and maybe they would still have them!!

The Chronic Dev team post goes on to talk about how these exploits may have been ‘lost’ and Apple come to patch them.

Every time any program crashes on your iPhone, a “crash report” is generated and instantly sent back to Apple……….. It’s possible to change your iTunes settings to stop sending this diagnostic information back to Apple, and of course everyone in Chronic Dev has made this change on all our development machines. However, even this is not always 100% effective at preventing Apple from obtaining our data. For instance, if one of us is at a friend’s house and plugs our iPhone up to his or her computer (even just to charge it), it’s very likely that computer is set up to send all our valuable data & crash reports right back to Apple.

This is where the ‘Chronic Dev Crash Reporter’ comes into play. The tool once installed (Mac only at the moment) changes where the crash reports get sent.

By simply launching the program, connecting your device and hitting the “Do it” button, Chronic Dev Crash Reporter will find your Crash logs and send them directly to the Chronic Dev team.

I have to say that the UI is excellent and the program could not be simpler to use. It found 24 crash logs on my iPhone 4S and sent them straight off, all in a few seconds.

Its worth noting that Chronic Dev Crash Reporter is still in beta at the moment but @P0sixninja says that a Windows and Final Mac version will be released in around 24 hours.

Check out our video below….

Click here to view the embedded video.

My personal opinion to this program is that if have ever Jailbroken your device or have an iPad 2 or iPhone 4S and you wish to Jailbreak again then get downloading the Chronic Dev Crash Reporter here. This is your opportunity to give a little back to help the Devs that make Jailbreaking possible.

As many of you have probably heard, there has been a new method allegedly uncovered to allow people to use their iPhone 4[s] on an alternate GSM network. Specifically, the tests conducted allowed the iPhone 4[s] to go from AT&T USA to T-Mobile USA. However, this seems more like a glitch than anything else, and the truth of the matter is that as far as my memory can recall, glitches aren’t very reliable. With that being said, Michael Capozzi has posted a video on YouTube of him backing up his claims, and an instructional has been circulating the internet. I personally have not tried this method yet, as I do not have access to a T-Mobile USA Micro-SIM card that would be compatible, and I do not trust myself enough to cut the standard sized SIM cards down to size. If anything changes, we will keep everyone updated as to the status.

And also before we get on to the meat of the story, it is noteworthy enough to mention that readers of Gizmodo.com have written in to them and confirmed that this little glitch does indeed work, however, it functions very much like a tethered jailbreak in the sense that if you restart OR respring your iPhone 4[s], you have to go through the process all over again. This to me sounds like it could potentially be problematic in the long-term, especially if you need your cellular service to be reliable for some reason: i.e., work, etc. Now, with that out of the way, I have to give the obligatory disclaimer:

ATTENTION: We at MyGreatiPhone.com cannot condone or suggest that you try this. As with all workarounds, there is always the potential to screw your iDevice up. We hold no responsibility if you render your iDevice unusable. We are simply posting an informative tutorial to show you how you can assume these risks yourself, and attempt to alter the way your device functions at your sole discretion. Follow these instructions if you so desire at your own risk.

1. Insert original carrier AT&T SIM card
2. Dial 611 for AT&T customer service hotline and drop the call
3. Turn on Airplane Mode
4. Take out AT&T SIM card
5. Insert T-Mobile SIM card
6. Make sure WiFi is off ( also tap on ‘Forget this Network” to make sure it doesn’t connect automatically later)

And just for added coverage, here is the original YouTube video that was posted, giving everyone a visual aid in the event that you feel the written instructions were not descriptive enough:

Additional Notes: This apparently works on the iPhone 4[s], the iPhone 4, and the iPhone 3G[s] as well, so it is not exclusive to the iPhone 4[s] as originally thought.

As usual, keep your eyes peeled here, as we will continue to cover this discovery in-depth as more information develops.

There has been a lot of talk recently in the iPhone world of using URL shortcuts to launch apps but today it was found that these same URL shortcuts can be used to get straight to certain places in the settings menu to turn different things on and off.

The way of doing this involves using a certain app called IconProject which is available in the AppStore for just 69p (99C). The app allows you to place loads of different custom icons on your homescreen including contacts to call or SMS or even a particular Skype number/contact. The great thing about iCon Project is it allows you to totally customise your icons to your liking for example you can change the colour, give it a boarder and even change the picture that the icons uses.

Now without a Jailbreak for the iPhone 4S turning things on and off like Bluetooth and WiFi involves you having to go through a few different menus in the settings app now with this tip you can get straight there from your homescreen.

Below is the list of codes/ shortcuts that you need to use to get these settings to work:

About — prefs:root=General&path=About
Accessibility — prefs:root=General&path=ACCESSIBILITY

Check the vid below on a full tutorial on how to get this to work….

The only downside to this is that if you remove Icon Project from your device then these shortcut icons that you have made will not work!

I have to say that I am loving this trick and hope that you like it too.

This seed has been supplied via the AppleSeed program to those that complained about the battery drain on iOS 5.

Note this is not a public release of the firmware, that is expected to be within the next few weeks.

The report of this seed comes from 9to5Mac…

Following the release of iOS 5.0.1 to developers to test the new software against applications in addition to test for battery life and Siri improvements, Apple is now seeding iOS 5.0.1 to certain end users for testing.

I have to say that I am testing iOS 5.0.1 and battery life is much better on the iPhone 4S, so its just a case of holding in there tight.

The update appeared for developers as an OTA update. However, if you are Jailbroken then it seems you cant do the OTA update so you will need to do it via iTunes.

To install iOS 5.0.1 beta 2 using over the air software update go to Settings > General > Software Update.

Also it is available via the Developer Centre site.

The data, which is said to have been “geographically weighted” and taken from traffic seen during the month of October, notes that iOS currently holds a 61.64% share of the world’s total web traffic.

In September, iOS had 54.65% and in August 53.04%.

Meanwhile, Android has just a 20% of web traffic for the same period, even though Samsung has not long snatched the title of “World’s Top Smartphone Manufacturer” a couple of days ago.

As for Symbian, BlackBerry and any others… They should just give up now after seeing this. As for Java devices which is practically dying.

Just moments ago, on Twitter, MuscleNerd of the iPhone Dev-Team revealed that they already have a preliminary jailbreak for the new iPhone 4s.

VERY preliminary 4S JB: http://t.co/5lgqpLHa http://t.co/2WOJ50zS (Huge missing pieces prevent public release. LOTS of work left)

No mention of wether it will be tethered or untethered and obviously no mention yet as to which exploit it is using. As stated it needs a LOT more work before it is ready for the masses.

The images below are the ones posted by MuscleNerd.

Obviously it will be finished and publicly released when it is ready so please do NOT pester the Dev-Team, it won’t happen any quicker if you do.

**UPDATE**

MuscleNerd just posted a video of his iPad 2 jailbroken on iOS 5.

Since hearing and seeing what Siri can do I had been wondering, can Siri perform the functions like that of SBSettings? Reboot, respring?

Until now the answer was no, but it seems this was because Siri was receiving incorrect commands. It has been discovered that if you simply tell Siri to “Restart”, it will!! And your iPhone will respring! If you say “Siri, restart” it will not recognise the command.

This is epic stuff as it shows there could be even less reason to need a jailbreak in the future. We are currently testing other such commands to see if we can coax Siri into performing any other system tasks and will update you if we find any.

Found an interesting command yourself? Let us know and we will add it.

As of yet there has been no untethered jailbreak for iOS 5 unless you have been running an old bootrom 3GS.

The difference between a tethered Jailbreak and an untethered one is that a tethered jailbreak requires you to be connected to a computer to boot your iPhone up (hence the tethered part), while an untethered one doesn’t.

Now it seems Bigboss has done something that is kind on in-between a tethered and untethered Jailbreak and he has named it Semitethered.

Now a semi-tethered Jailbreak is is the same as a tethered one needing you to boot your iPhone from a computer in order for it to work properly. The difference with this one is that if for any reason you need to reboot your phone while you are out and not near a computer you will be able to – BUT you will not be able to use all its features until you boot it again while connected to Redsn0w.

To install Semitether you need to already be Jailbroken and you need to add the following repo to Cydia: http://thebigboss.org/semitether

There is one thing though; when you install this you will have to reboot so don’t get installing it while your out and about.

There has been an update to this package during the night which should have sorted out a few problems for you here is the change log:

1) Device does not sync with itunes and only errors. Hopefully solved.
2) Device reboots after 2-3 minutes.
3) App sync issue – this is unworkable. Appsync hard patches system files and does not even use mobile substrate. I had to conflict with it. For now, semi-tether boot is impossible with appsync. You guys need to bug those guys to fix appsync to use mobile substrate (like everyone else uses).

Now remember I said that if you had to reboot when using Semitethered there where some things that you wouldn’t be able to use here is the list of things you can and can’t do:

) Can use phone, sms (text messages)
2) Can use every other stock app on iphone.
3) Cannot use mobile safari
4) Can use other appstore web browsers such as atomic web browser
5) Cannot use mail app. You could install a gmail app from appstore or such instead.
6) You cannot use any jailbreak tweak, app, cydia until you boot tethered.
7) While in the semitether booted state, you should not add a jailbreak ios5 notification such as sbsettings to notifications during this state or your device will be stuck in a respring loop until you get home to “boot tethered”.

So there you have it, if you install Semitether and you need to reboot at least you will be able to use you phone to phone and message people.

Remember though this will NOT work on the iPhone 4S or the iPad 2!!

At the start of the port the UI seem to run very and I mean VERY sluggish but a couple of hours later it seemed that Mr Troughton-Smith had made a few improvements to get things running smoothly.

Check out the video below..

Click here to view the embedded video.

There is not yet a date when this will be released but i am pretty certain it will not be to far away so you iPhone 4 users keep calm, its coming.

Not only is Siri being ported over to the iPhone 4 but to the iPad 2 also. It is uncertain why the iPad 2 didn’t get Siri as it runs the same A5 processor as the new iPhone 4S.

The news of the port to the iPad 2 came this time from the developer Sonny Dickson with the following tweet and pic.

Once again no word of a release yet, but as soon as we hear some more we will be sure to let you know.

Today Apple released the final public version of iTunes 10.5, and along side that Apple should roll out iCloud tomorrow.

iOS5 will also roll out tomorrow (Wednesday the 12th of October) and will be available for these devices – iPad, iPad 2, iPhone 3Gs, iPhone 4 (GSM/CDMA), iPod Touch (3rd/4th gen), and of course the iPhone 4S will ship with it.

At the current time, seemingly out of left field, reputed news outlet AP News (Associated Press) as well as CNN have reported that Steve Jobs has died. Additional information will be released as it becomes available, and I will be keeping my eye on this story keenly all night long. To say that I am sad is a massive understatement, and it has been a very long time since I have seen my Twitter feed quite literally explode. Celebrities, iCommunity patrons, and just all-around general people have been tweeting non-stop back-to-back constantly since the news broke about Jobs.

While not much information is available at the current time, as stated above, here is the official tweet that started the ball rolling, from the Associated Press:

And here is the tweet from CNN:

UPDATE #1: Also, Apple.com/SteveJobs has just updated their page with the following image:

Something also worthy to note, Gizmodo.com has also released an article here on the matter: http://gizmodo.com/5838847/ . While this post was created previously, assumedly at the time of Tim Cook taking over the reigns as CEO, and while the dates in the article may be wrong (They quote his date of death being September 9, 2011) the article itself is extremely well-written and somewhat heartfelt, so for any of you who may have been prepared and saw this coming, please give it a read, as it is one of the few times that Gizmodo.com has done an exceptional job at remembering someone who truly deserved to be remembered. They captured what I thought and felt very well, and instead of just regurgitating what they have written, I will simply ask that you take a look.

UPDATE #2: Now, instead of just going to Apple.com/stevejobs, you can simply just go to Apple.com: New products be damned, they just now have a banner of Mr. Jobs commemorating his life. Take a look at the official website yourself, or click the link below.

UPDATE #3: Celebrities, internet YouTube sensations, and tech stars are pouring out of the woodworks with tweets expressing their sorrow. Despite the celebrity mentioned, most notably, Will Strafich, otherwise known as @chronic of the Chronic Dev_Team has also released a simple emoticon expressing a tear being shed.

@MuscleNerd, he’d public face of the iPhone_Dev_Team has also released a tweet expressing much the same:

And furthermore, the Wall Street Journal released this tweet directing you to a link to Steve’s obituary, which can be found here: http://online.wsj.com/article/SB10001424052702304447804576410753210811910.html?mod=e2tw

Apple has pushed out iOS5 Gold Master to developers which means that its out of beta stages and that we are getting very, very close to the release of iOS5 in fact, on the 12th October 2011 it will be released to all.

iOS5 is for the following devices

iPad

iPad 2

iPod touch 3rd generation

iPod touch 4th generation

iPhone 3GS

iPhone 4

iPhone 4S

One thing that I have notice that it isn’t yet available Over the Air.

Developers can grab the iOS5 Gold Master download via developer.apple.com and start testing their apps out on it to ensure compatibility.

After all the rumors and speculation, we finally know what is coming!

Firstly. iOS5.

iOS5 is a new operating system from Apple which will include iCloud, new notification system and iMessage – Apples iOS based messaging system. We’ve spoken about this a lot so I won’t spend a lot of time on it, however we do have a few new things.

- Family & Friends. We had heard about this before, but a lot of people have brushed over it. Well it exists. It’s basically an app for you to find out where your family and friends are at that time. It has privacy controls and you can tell it not to show where you are at particular times and it is all up to the user what you want shared and when. Very nice feature.

- Cards. Cards allows you to create and mail beautiful cards right from your iPhone or iPod touch. Apple post it, adds their own little own stamp on to it. It’s basically a personalised Moonpig.

- iTunes Match. Part of the iCloud stuff, iTunes Match scans and matches your library against Apples 20m songs. If it doesn’t find anything, it will upload it. So you are always synced with your music and can restore without a wire.

- iCloud. Basically, back ups and restores without any wires. Apps, Music, Settings… everything appears in iCloud.

- Wireless Syncing. With new iTunes that will be released, you can wirelessly sync your device with OS X. Just like you would with a cable, but over WiFi.

Out 12th October.

There is a new iPod Touch released. White version too with a price decrease and a 64GB version.

iPod Nano released. 8GB for $129, and 16GB for $149 available today.
Looks like Software update also released for it. New clock faces for people who wear it as a watch and built in fitness, so no more need for sensors.

iPhone 4S:

- New Camera. 8MPX as rumored. Wider lens (f2.4). Sensor closes or opens where needed. 5 lens elements.
- Dual-core CPU, 2x as fast at CPU tasks. Also dual-core graphics. Up to 7x faster in the previous iPhone. A5 chip.
- Two antennas. One to send data, one to receive. Makes call quality even better and data speeds 2x faster.
- HD 1080p video
- Siri – the new speech recognition system
- Front facing camera still VGA
- AT&T, Verizon and Sprint.

iPhone 4S available on 14th October in the UK and US, 28th Elsewhere.

Even more spoilers have been discovered with the release of the newest iTunes release, specifically, version 10.5beta9. Originally reported by our friend Brian over at www.TheTechErra.com on 10/01, he points out findings discovered originally by @SonnyDickson (Twitter) that allude to such future services that Apple may intent to bring us, and specifically in this case, that service is the ability to somehow “rent” applications. While many might not agree with the activity of Mr. Dickson (which usually consists of asking his followers to donate electronic devices to him and them him turning around and re-selling it for a profit) this is undeniably an amazing find on his part.

Before I go any further, take a look at the original text entries that were reported on that give reasonable expectation for these features to come about:

Now, as you can see the text specifically mentions the rental of apps, which would be a major and impactful event within the iCommunity. As a matter of fact, the entire “premise” of the pirated community, largely fueled by cracked app sources such as “install0us” , is that the only reason the apps are pirated is so that people can legitimately “try before they buy”. While I personally don’t buy that excuse for a second, it should be interesting to see what the pirates will use as an excuse in the future after Apple implements the “application rental” service it so obviously seems to have put in place already.

Keep your eyes peeled, as I am sure that the event being held tomorrow will shed some much-needed light on all of the new features that will be coming our way.

Today it has been released after 9to5mac did a little digging into the new beta release of iTunes that the next gen iPhone will be named the iPhone 4S not only that but the design for it in iTunes os the same as the CDMA iPhone 4.

Not only does the picture point to the new name of the device put it also seems to point to the new device being a world phone that being it will be able to use both CDMA and GSM networks.

Personal I think it will be disappointing if Apple only release a small redesigned iPhone 4 (that being said I will still get it). The new iPhone is rumoured to have the iPad 2′s A5 processor, 8 megapixel camera and 1GB of Ram.

Only a couple of days left now people.

This new device has also been confirmed to have Apple’s A5 processor that is seen in the iPad 2.

Its getting all to exciting now, roll on Tuesdays.

It has been reported that the expected iPhone 5 / 4S (whatever you like to call it) announcement will be held on October 4th at Apple’s annual Fall event.

Due to the size of the event and the products released at it, it is usually held in places such as Yerba Buena Center for the Arts, which has seen many large product releases before, but this year a source close to AllThingsD (which originally broke the 4th October announcement date) says that the event will be held in Apple’s own campus.

Its yet unsure why Apple are choosing to hold the event on its own campus, it could possible be because Apple’s new CEO Tim Cook felt it would be better for him as this would be his first media event as CEO.

One thing is for sure that this piece of news seems to fit as we have usually heard rumours by now that a possible big venue being booked out.

We’re getting closer people!

There’s a lot going on in the ecosystem and we’d like to take this chance to share the highlights with you – including the latest developments with the platform, areas of opportunity that we’re seeing, and a heavy focus on the iOS 5 Twitter integration for developers. We’ll also be holding a Q&A session with members of the platform team, plus time to hang out with each other.

There are 150 seats available at each city and more dates and cities may be announced at a later date.

There has been lots of talk about when the iPhone 5 will be announced but now a new rumour has jumped out. According to AllThingsD they have been tipped by the usual “Somebody close to the source” that Apple will be holding the event on October 4th.

The source also sated that Cook will almost defiantly be heading up the presentation.

Its is important the Cook the new CEO of Apple runs the show at the event, as if he didn’t it would highly under cut his new role and people will think that Apple may be looking to run in a new direction.

An October 4th announcement would be just right for a rumoured mid October iPhone 5 release date.

As with all rumours though things could change, it may not be announced on the 4th or Cook may not be headlining the show.

Let us know what you think may happen in the comments below, do you want Cook to run the show or would you wish to see Steve no last time?

CaseMate, a very highly reputable company for iPhone and iPod cases, has announced that they will have their cases ready for both iPhone 4s and iPhone 5.

Announcing on a special page,

The wait is almost over as the next generation iPhone 5 / iPhone 4S will be released in the coming weeks. The new iPhone promises more technology than ever, all in the palm of your hand. The guessing game continues whether Apple will unveil the iPhone 5 or the iPhone 4S. Case-Mate will be ready with a collection of iPhone 5 cases / iPhone 4S cases to protect your new iPhone in your own personal style.

(*)

The rumors are new iPhone 5 will feature a completely different form factor than its predecessor. Wider and thinner, the redesigned device features an extended home button. The screen size could see an increase to 4 inches.

Also included in the rumors is that the iPhone 5 will be an A5 dual-core processor, similar to the one used in the iPad 2. It will also be equipped with an 8 mega-pixel camera, wireless charging and iOS 5, which features iCloud portable storage capabilities.

The latest report is that the iPhone 5 will be available on all major carriers across the globe, including China Mobile, which has 600 million subscribers. In addition, it will be available in black and white with 16GB and 32 GB options. Insiders expect an early October launch.

Case-Mate will be ready with a collection of iPhone 5 cases. From the slim Barely There(*) to the protective Tough case, Case-Mate is ready with an iPhone 5 case that fits your needs.

There are many reports that there is or is not an iPhone 4S, but according to Case-Mate

From our inside resources, it appears that Apple will be indeed launching both an iPhone 5 and an iPhone 4S in early October. The speculation indicates that the iPhone 4S will feature the same form factor as the iPhone 4 but will be upgraded with the latest technology, including the A5 dual-core processor and 8 mega-pixel camera.

Exciting!

So… I wonder when things will be announced!

Ever wanted your iPhone 4 to be like your Mac and have its Apple logo light up when the screen is Illuminated, well now its possible.

UK based company iPatch (based in Leeds) have come up with rear panel for the iPhone 4 that when the screen is in action the Apple logo on the back will light up.

The design comes from the senior iPatch technician Chris. The mod is said to cost less than £100 and takes less than an hour to do. The best bit about this is that this mod will not make your device any thicker than it already is.

The modification is not yet ready for public release, but Andy, iPatch’s founder and director says that it should be ready within a month – at the moment they are just adding the finishing touches to production.

Personally I can’t wait for this to be released and we here at MyGreatiPhone will definitely be getting an iPhone 4 modded.

Update…

iPatch have released more info about the mod – they say that the cost of this mod will be between £50 – £100 depending on production costs. This is really good.

Further info..

It has had no noticable drop in battery performance in day to day use

It does not cause any heating of the rear case

The light goes off when the screen goes off. This means it will not glow when you are on a normal call and have the phone to your ear or have the phone on standby

The light effect is an evenly distributed glow, much like the apple symbol on the rear of a macbook lid

It does illuminate when you receive a text or call, or when your alarm sounds

It does not cause any change in thickness to the phone or result in any light leakage around the frame

The glass plate used is that from a standard iPhone 4 and is, therefore, available in black and white (or even custom colours if required)

The colour of the apple logo can be changed by applying a colour filter and its intensity can be reduced by reducing the front LCD brightness. There are other, currently classified, mods that may be possible too depending on testing. Currently, when the light is off, the apple has a frosted glass appearance but this may change to reflective silver, if possible, to maintain the original look of the iPhone

The camera function is completely unaffected either with or without flash

Plans are to release an export franchise kit which will be available to trained repairers abroad. It is by no means simple to replicate and would not be advisable to attempt without the expertise and knowledge of how the iPhone functions at a circuitry level. Details of how to participate will be released in the future

It will void any warranty with apple but the modification is fully reversible, returning the iPhone exactly back to how it was (at a smaller additional cost)

It will come with iPatch’s standard 90 day warranty so if anything goes wrong, you are covered

International orders are welcomed although please be aware of the delivery scale and costs

It looks, quite frankly, awesome!

The pioneer of the modern technological world I just spoke of, the world that we know today has passed on. One of the world’s most visionary and influential people in the past hundred years – former CEO and co-founder of Apple, Inc., Steve Jobs has died.

Wait, what?!?

No, no he hasn’t. And I apologize for the misleading paragraph above, but if you have been following social media such as twitter and facebook, then you will have undoubtedly seen the ridiculous rumors spreading all over the internet like wildfire. They read very much like the paragraph I had to struggle to bang out at the beginning of this article. The internet is notorious for spreading celebrity “death” rumors all over the place, many times before the celebrity has actually passed on. So, reader, once you calm down and slow your heart palpitations, take solace in the fact that Mr. Jobs is alive, and well enough. At least according to Gizmodo.com, who has their spies, readers, and agents out all over the place looking to confirm or deny this rumor. While there is no guaranteed answer at the time of writing this, it is a safe bet to assume that Steve is still kickin’, but in the event that the worst-case scenario is confirmed, we will cover this breaking story. Let’s just hope we don’t hear anything else on this topic for a long, long time to come. Keep your eyes peeled, same bat-time, same bat-channel.

The picture above looks very normal and if I say so myself tasty but there is apparently some interesting hidden things to it. You can look at the picture as much as you like but you still wont see it, as its all hidden in its data.

The data from this picture says it was taken by an iPhone 4 but after closer inspection the photo has been cropped to a size of 5MP had an original resolution of a much higher (nearer to) 8MP.

Further digging also points to the lens being closer to a point and shoot lens of 4.3mm f/2.4 rather than the iPhone 4′s lens of 3.85mm f/2.8.

The source says that the this info could have been faked, but something else hinted to it being an iPhone 5 original.

….it was supposedly shot by an Apple engineer eating his lunch at work

Hey if this was taken by an iPhone 5 slinging Apple engineer during launch then Apple’s canteen services are amazing, but its also great to know that Apple’s new device will take some stunning pictures.

[Source]

Update:

After more research into this picture the data also holds some GPS co-ordinates, those being - 37.33216667,-122.03033333 which is in fact 1 Infinite Loop, Apple’s HQ.

It also seems that somebody with more time on their hands than most has done an amazing job of finding a reflection in the plate and un-curving it to show more of what is going on.

You still can’t make much out but it seems that somebody it holding some kind of device (iPhone 5?) above the plate.

Recently, Japanese blog Macotakara has let the cat out of the bag and alerted everyone to the fact that both Foxconn and Pegatron have begun the assembly of the iPhone 5/iPhone 4[s]. As it has been reported, the workload will mostly be loaded on to Foxconn, with their factory taking 85% of the production responsibility, while Pegatron only needs to make up the other 15% of all assembly. The other tidbit of noteworthy news is the fact that after these devices are assembled, they are not, as they normally are, going to be packaged and stockpiled to be ready for shipping. This is due to the fact that Apple does not have a fully functional or working version of iOS5 ready for them to pre-load onto the pre-assembled machines. At the time of this writing, there have currently been 7 revisions of the iOS 5.0 beta released, which is the second highest amount ever released for the iOS beta program, the first being the transition from iOS 1 to iOS 2, with iOS 2.0 receiving 8 beta revisional releases. With that being said, it is no surpise that Apple is running just a little bit behind schedule, especially since they promise a full 200+ new features in iOS 5, making this most likely the most significant upgrade that iOS has ever seen.

Also worthy of note, because all of the focus will be to worldwide distribution, it is also expected that the Asian markets will not be receiving their own iPhone 5/iPhone 4[s] until “at least” a few more weeks after the initial launch, so it looks as if that launch date will be pushed back a little bit as well. As always, keep tuning in and we will notify you as new information becomes available.

We’ve seen many rumours so far and so many mock ups, but now we have seen someone claim they have seen the iPhone 5 and has told people about it.

German Twitter user @Kefi247 has posted on his website that a “few days ago”, he and some friends drove to a “big german mobile phone provider to see the new iPhone 5″. Apple apparently have sent out “the first few to providers”. I’m presuming by this he means the carrier testing as he goes on to say this is the “first version of the iPhone 5″ and that it is possible that Apple could have changed some things before it gets released.

Straight away this knocks down the mock ups that the iPhone 5 will be curved like the iPod Touches, Kevin states that “I was amazed as I saw it. Its thinner and they did something with the back which is really amazing, the glass is rounded !”. The picture above is an apparent “pretty accurate mock up”.

We have also seen mocks that the flash will be on the other side of the phone and that the camera will be 8MPX or 4MPX or 20MPX (probably someone said that). Kevin said that the camera he saw “was a little bit bigger than the one in my iPhone 4 and it seems like its 8 Megapixels now. The LED Flash is the same.”. So the same layout, then.

Yesterday I posted that the next iPhone may have a 4-inch screen. Kevin seems to confirm this. The ‘iPhone 5′ he viewed had a bigger display “than the iPhone 4´s 3,5″”, He’s not sure on the actual size but he thinks 3.8 or 3.9, which are kind of weird sizes, so a 4″ screen seems reasonable to presume. There is also an apparent “1 mm to every side left.”.

The home button has been also getting a lot of rumours. It’s square, or rounded, or circular, or a touch area…
“The Home Button isn´t round anymore, it´s a square with rounded corners, it´s wider than the old one but has the same height.”. Again this seems closer to the mock up I posted yesterday.

On the iPhone 4 the silver frame is quite sharp as noted by many people as a sort of flaw of the device. Apple has apparently fixed this as the iPhone 5 “is more rounded, the picture above is pretty accurate.”.

“The Buttons on the left side of the iPhone 5 aren´t the old ones too, the Button for silent mode is rounded to fit the body, the volume buttons are like in the picture above.”

Kevin also managed to play with the phone. It was running iOS 5 and was 64GB Model. Finally I hear you all scream.

The sim card slot is also apparently smaller. Still a micro sim, though.

It is rumoured that the iPhone 5 will be released in October. Today we have just also found that it could be on the 21st of October. Another new date…

So, what do you think? Pretty solid claims from Kevin. I’ve known him on Twitter for a while… But I can’t help but feel a bit weird about this.

Leave us a comment or drop me a tweet @Ravenatic

We’ve seen many speculations now and even posted that Apple’s upcoming ‘Photostream’ application shows an iPhone that doesn’t look like a current iPhone. Well, according to the design specs that were leaked by MacRumors.com, the iPhone is indeed to be a tiny bit wider and have a bigger screen.

If you have forgotten, the main dimensions of the iPhone 4 are 4.5″ x 2.31″. So this iPhone in the plan is due to be a bit shorter but also a bit wider.

Personally from that plan I like it. I don’t like how round it seems – hated that on the 3GS after a while – but the fact that the top isn’t as stupidly huge anymore and there isn’t much wasted space is brilliant. And a bigger screen is also a bonus.

To compare, MacRumours has got hold of an apparent iPhone 5 case made to these designs and put it on an iPhone 4 to see the size difference.

There are still reports however that there is to be still a 3.5-inch screen like the current iPhone 4. Maybe that is the iPhone “4S” and the 4-inch screen is the iPhone 5? I know which i’d be getting.

We hope (and it is apparent that we will see) that there is an announcement to be made by Apple later this month, however no details for this have been leaked yet. The phone is also rumoured to go on sale either October 7th or October 14th. Or, 7th in the US and 14th in the EU.

Either way – We are still playing guessing games. Wish Apple would just shout out and say “check out this sexy bitch” and get on with it… I want a new phone. I get bored too easily.

And reported all over the internet, @MuscleNerd of the iPhone_devteam have already jailbroken most iDevices as of today to run on the newest version of iOS 5.0, beta 7. While there have been many times I have gone record in the past, criticizing the actions of the IDT, this season they seem to have been pretty much on top of their game, with each iOS 5.0 revision beta being jailbroken in seemingly record time, catering to the masses, and increasing the speed with each jailbreak. So, kudos to the IDT, you boys and girls deserve it.

In a tweet released by @MuscleNerd himself, it reads as follows:

Today’s IOS5b7 can be JB with last night’s redsn0w b7 http://t.co/qYExhrP but point it at b6 IPSW…annoying off-by-1 now

Using this world-famous tool, it should be noted that there is no solution for ow yet if you are looking to jailbreak UNtethered, as there is only currently a tethered jailbreak method available at this time. The only main difference between tethered vs UNtethered is that on a tethered jailbreak, any time your iDevice restarts for whatever reason (installing a tweak, running out of battery, etc.) you must be near a computer in order to run redsn0w again to re-jailbreak it. While this may be inconvenient, it is the only current method available, so for now, this is just a casualty of war.

Keep your eyes posted, for as always, we will keep you updated to any further news associated to iDevices.

As of today, August 31st, 2011, Apple has released what will most probably be the last “developers” build or beta of their popular iOS mobile operating system. As usual, you should not upgrade if you are relying on a jailbreak or an unlock, but for those of you who are interested in such things, there is a fix for you out there as well. Keep your eyes peeled for that article.

With iOS 5.0 GM predicted to be released next month at some point in September/2011, this is the beta that most people have been waiting for. It is likely to contain multiple security updates, fixes, and the like. Many are also expecting even more stability, and an improved (a/k/a “bug free”) user experience. While many people, including me, are too apprehensive to update via the “OTA” (over-the-air) method, most people are not, and here is a screenshot below, courtesy of RedmondPie.com, of what that OTA Update will look like. You can view this area of iOS by going into Settings>General>Software Update:

There are also other ways to instal this update, for example, by doing it the old-fashioned way and heading over to the Apple Developer Portal and downloading the appropriate firmware file for your device, and installing through iTunes, but ultimately, the choice is yours. Other additional notes that should be paid attention to are that after you update your iOS 5b7 firmware, in order to sync your device to iTunes, you are going to actually have to update iTunes as well, so that everything is simpatico.

In a report that was released tonight it seems that another Apple employee may be due for the chop.

The report claims that yet another unreleased iPhone has gone walkies and guess what, its happened in another bar!

The phone this time round was lost in the Cava22 bar in San Francisco.

Sources says:

Apple electronically traced the phone to a two-floor, single-family home in San Francisco’s Bernal Heights neighborhood, When San Francisco police and Apple’s investigators visited the house, they spoke with a man in his twenties who acknowledged being at Cava 22 on the night the device went missing. But he denied knowing anything about the phone. The man gave police permission to search the house, and they found nothing. Before leaving the house, the Apple employees offered the man money for the phone no questions asked, the source said, adding that the man continued to deny he had knowledge of the phone.

The is no mention about what the device looked like, what iOS it was running.

Apple have refused to comment on the missing iPhone and also the San Francisco Police Department said the company did not file a police report based on the loss at the bar.

In my opinion it is unlikely that this iPhone will turn up like the iPhone 4 did when it was lost last year, but maybe in a few years time we will be reading about a prototype iPhone 5 being sold on eBay for some stupid amount.

In a statement released by Apple’s Board of Directors, previous Chief Operating Officer (COO) Tim Cook has been named as Apple’s new Chief Executive Officer (CEO), effective at the time of this writing.

Here are excerpts from the press release:

“Steve’s extraordinary vision and leadership saved Apple and guided it to its position as the world’s most innovative and valuable technology company,” said Art Levinson, Chairman of Genentech, on behalf of Apple’s Board. “Steve has made countless contributions to Apple’s success, and he has attracted and inspired Apple’s immensely creative employees and world class executive team. In his new role as Chairman of the Board, Steve will continue to serve Apple with his unique insights, creativity and inspiration.”

“The Board has complete confidence that Tim is the right person to be our next CEO,” added Levinson. “Tim’s 13 years of service to Apple have been marked by outstanding performance, and he has demonstrated remarkable talent and sound judgment in everything he does.”

Previously, when rumors of Steve Jobs’ health had raised the questions of whether or not he would be able to continue his duties at Apple, Inc., the Board of Directors had set up a “succession plan”, naming Tim Cook as Jobs’ successor, and today, that is exactly what happened. Today, while Jobs submitted his resignation to the Board of Directors, he “strongly urged” them to follow their succession plan and go with Cook. Also at the time of his resignation, Steve Jobs requested that he stay on the Board of Director’s, and has in fact been elected as the Chairman of that very same Board, so in some form, Jobs will still be a large part of Apple, Inc.

Tim Cook may be in fact the best qualified person to take the reigns. As Apple Inc.’s COO, Cook oversaw just about every aspect of the company, from all of their sales activity all the way down to worldwide oversight in regards to Apple’s day-to-day activities. He was also responsible for maintaining a relationship with suppliers in order to ensure the success of the Macintosh platform.

While the reasons for Steve Jobs’ decision to resign has not been made public, one can only assume that the health issues he has been facing in the near-past may be playing a major factor in this. This is not confirmed, but in order for Jobs to step down from Apple, a company he saw literally grow out of his basement, his personal circumstances must be very influential to his decisions. We wish Jobs all the best in his future endeavors.

Also worth noting, it should be interesting to see how Apple, Inc.’s stock (AAPL) will be affected by such an event. We’ll keep you posted as more information becomes available. Until then, you can view the entire PR statement here: www.apple.com/pr

UPDATE 1: Steve Jobs’ open letter has just been released. This is what Mr. Jobs had to say about the matter, in his own words:

I have always said if there ever came a day when I could no longer meet my duties and expectations as Apple’s CEO, I would be the first to let you know. Unfortunately, that day has come.

I hereby resign as CEO of Apple. I would like to serve, if the Board sees fit, as Chairman of the Board, director and Apple employee.

As far as my successor goes, I strongly recommend that we execute our succession plan and name Tim Cook as CEO of Apple.

I believe Apple’s brightest and most innovative days are ahead of it. And I look forward to watching and contributing to its success in a new role.

I have made some of the best friends of my life at Apple, and I thank you all for the many years of being able to work alongside you.

Steve

And even further, here is the entire press release:

Steve Jobs Resigns as CEO of Apple

Tim Cook Named CEO and Jobs Elected Chairman of the Board

CUPERTINO, Calif.–(BUSINESS WIRE)–Apple’s Board of Directors today announced that Steve Jobs has resigned as Chief Executive Officer, and the Board has named Tim Cook, previously Apple’s Chief Operating Officer, as the company’s new CEO. Jobs has been elected Chairman of the Board and Cook will join the Board, effective immediately.

Apple designs Macs, the best personal computers in the world, along with OS X, iLife, iWork and professional software. Apple leads the digital music revolution with its iPods and iTunes online store.
