Let The Battle Commence! The Facts Exposé(d)

icon.spacesMost of you will, by now, have had the opportunity to use Orbit, an application for jailbroken iDevices created by Steven Troughton-Smith, an independant iPhone developer located in Ireland.

Steven basically got the idea for this from a video posted on YouTube showing a “concept” of using Exposé on an iPhone. After chatting to Louie over at the Icon Factory, he decided to see if he could make it a reality.

On October 18th Orbit was released through Cydia for $1.99 and was a huge hit. Steven also posted a link to a video showing a future addition for 2.0 on his blog, pinch to enable.

Yesterday, a new app appeared on Cydia called OverBoard, touting to do all the things that Orbit does AND more in its initial release.

The creator of OverBoard is no stranger to app development and is of course Ryan Petrich, maker of tweaks like Clippy and Action Menu.

OverBoard comes complete with the pinch to enable function and also shows a screen for spotlight allowing you to go there directly.

No matter which way you look at it, this seems like a direct attack on Orbit, but we are not here to take sides, afterall both apps do exactly what they say on the tin.

Last night Steven posted an update on Twitter saying that he has now delayed the next update to Orbit due to the release of OverBoard, so expect him to deliver a counter blow when he does release it.

We will post any further updates so stay tuned.
