GeoHot Announces Jailbreak For All OS 3.1 Devices
There appears at this time to be a large number of people independently engaged in the cracking of the OS 3.1 for iPhone and iPod touch devices. Those familiar with the jailbreak scene will have heard of George Hotz, who just announced on his blog that he is working on a jailbreak for all devices on OS 3.1, including the 3GS iPhone and iPod Touch 3rd gen. On his blog he posted a picture of all iPhones and iPod Touches with the text: “Meet the Family ‘. and Beneath: “And prepare to meet the program that will jailbreak them all.”
George Hotz is best known for his roll as part of the Dev Team, but was expelled after some disagreements. Later he helped the Dev Team with the same exploit that was used for yellowsn0w, the tool to unlock the iPhone 3G. Furthermore, he was responsible for purplera1n and purplesn0w, the first methods used to make the unlock for the iPhone 3GS.
It is not clear as yet as to what GeoHotz will release, however, the program is said to be ready, and we can expect a jailbreak for all devices running OS 3.1 within two days . Whether this also applies to the out-of-the-box situation where the software is already installed (and therefore have the latest baseband) is not known.
